I have been reading a lot of negative discussions about the nursing field and I must admit, I've considered changing my career path. Problem is, I can't see myself doing anything else. Please tell me that there are nurses out there that like their job!
Nurses aide in1985, LPN (19 years old) in 1986, RN in 2005.
It's been nearly 30 years & my entire adult life. If I could turn back time I would do it all over again in a heart beat. Working in general stinks & everyone has bad days. I'll take a bad day of nursing rather than a bad day at a lot of other professions.
I LOVE being a nurse. I can't imagine doing anything else with my life. I have worked in different areas of nursing, and have loved every area. While the time has come when I have wanted to grow and move on, I have never left an area because I was burnt out or hated it. Left certain jobs cause I hated them, but never hated bedside nursing. I hope to be providing patient care for the rest of my career
I have worked in a couple areas & some have burned me out. It is frustrating that I still haven't been able to land a job in a hospital (I'm a LVN & they still hire LVNs in some hospitals). But I can't imagine working in any other field & I'm sure when I get my RN more doors will open & I will love it even more!
Sometimes people are unhappy with their employment situation so much that they stop loving nursing.
I nearly quit nursing due to the stress, insane demands and lack of breaks at my former job.
Now I work for a good company with fair staffing ratios, friendly employees and adequate supplies.
I love being a nurse again.
I love being a nurse. I feel it is my calling and I actually enjoy what I do (well most days anyway). I am intellectually stimulated and I get a lot of personal satisfaction from what I do. I am proud of my career choice. I am fortunate that I only work PT (2 days a week) so I am able to be home with my 3 boys the majority of the time. I have the best of both worlds. I think the money is good as well.
