Does anyone know of any hospital that are currently hiring new grads without any experience? I graduated May '09, and it's so hard finding a job without experience. Thanks.
I saw an ad in the "Kentucky Nurse" last week for a hospital in Roswell, New Mexico that is hiring with a sign-on bonus and relocation assistance. I can't recall the particulars, but it was Eastern New Mexico Medical Center. I lived in Roswell 20 years ago, and my son was born in that hospital, but other than that I can't tell you much about it. I imagine it has changed quite a bit. Roswell was a pretty nice place to live then.
My job search has been frustrating as well. I graduated with a BSN in May 2009 and live in Charleston, SC. Here are some tips about the big players for new grads in this area:
1. Avoid Trident Medical Center if possible. I worked there for 4 months before leaving for reasons of understaffing and patient safety concerns. If available, try the Oncology or Tele floors
2. Medical University of South Carolina indicates the new grad positions with terms "new graduate". Currently there are 2 openings as of the date of this posting.
3. Roper St. Francis is a great private hospital. Call nurse recruiter and request the list of floors that hire new grads. Any posting that does not specify "1 yr exp" is fair game. They are currently opening a remodeled Gen Med unit so there are all kinds of positions right now. I have an interview on Tuesday!
4. HealthSouth has a facility that is subacute care, and my friends enjoys it there. They have one current posting, check their website.
5. For future grads: 2 new hospitals are scheduled to be opening in the next few months- East Cooper and Roper St Francis in Mount Pleasant. Be looking for new jobs in the next few months and Spring 2010!
I share your pain on how frustrating it is to hear about a 'nursing shortage'. Whatever!!! Then why don't the nurse recruiters ever call us back?!?!?
Good luck to everyone, hang in there!

]I'm a New Grad in San Diego, CA. I've applied to the New Grad Programs for UCSD and Sharp that commence in January 2010. Right now it's difficult to get any position. I passed my NCLEX in March of this year and still looking. It seems that a lot of the places are only hiring internally and are not considering to hire to the public until the first of next year, looking for more experience, or prefer BSN (I have an ADN). It's getting frustrating and discouraging. I'm not looking to relocate out of state and my last resort is to move to Northern California. Anyone know of any New Grad openings in the San Diego, CA area? Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Yeah I wish. Not in Florida either. I am graduating December 09 and the teachers are already telling us that we are pretty much doomed. I am thinking of moving to NYC.
Don't do it. The market in NY is bad new grads are not etting hired. Your best bet is to go upstate NY I heard they have some openings my friend is moving there in a few weeks. The job market in NY is terrible at this time.

I just went to a job fair last week in NYC, and every single hospital there said they are not hiring new grads right now. Some were major big hospitals, with long lines of new grads waiting to hand in their resume. They basically said that at the moment it was difficult to get any position as a new grad, and chances were slim of getting hired anytime soon, but they said 'hang in there'.
Maybe next year things will be better, but I doubt it will turn around that quickly, and there are many, many, new grads in NYC looking for jobs and waiting to get called back. So it's not that easy in NYC, and the rent and cost of living is very expensive, so if you do move, be prepared to have a roommate or live in the not so good areas of nyc in a tiny apt. It's good to have a back up plan, and maybe have another job in mind. There are places that do hire like community centers, etc. but the pay is much lower than in hospitals, and it would be expensive to live in a decent apt. in NYC for that salary.
University Medical Center, Tucson, Arizona. I work there and it is such a good teaching hospital that has a great Nursing HR that if you applied right now they would I'm sure call you back first thing in the morning.-David
Not anymore. The recruiter at this hospital is now telling new grads that they are not considering anyone with less than one year of experience. Any new grads that have been hired recently are those who have been on contract with the hospital due to sponsored tuition arrangements from a couple years ago (like Grand Canyon University students and accelerated UA BSN).
Try this link, it's for Floyd Memorial in New Albany, IN. Usually many postings and no experience requirements listed at this time:
Indianapolis hospitals are supposedly hiring new grads according to many on the Indiana board, but my eyes and ears there say different, or that any newbies hired there are very lucky. Here are their sites as well:
http://www.wishard.edu/careers-volunteers.html for Wishard Memorial
http://www.clarian.org/portal/Clarian/methodist-hospital for Clarian/Methodist
http://www.stvincent.org/default.htm for St Vincents Hospital
http://www.stfrancishospitals.org/ for St Francis Hospital
Also, try Louisville, KY hospitals:
http://www.jewishhospital.org/jobopportunities.asp for Jewish Hospital
http://nortonhealthcare.com for Norton/Kosair Children's Hospital System
I hope these lead to something for some of you. I make no guarantees, as I don't work for any of these, but just hear of openings now and then. Good luck to you all!
