So I read this on fb today. Someone is claiming on a post for Kaplan that states are going to start refusing to re license nurses unless they have a bsn.

Well as a 2 yr prepared RN and then did choose to go back for my BSN/MSN, your fears are understandable as I had the same. States are moving towards requiring RNs to obtain higher degrees in order to renew licensure. NY will not license someone without a 4 year degree and CA and TX are moving in that direction. Unless you have a previous 4 yr degree in another area, you should be able to get financial aid without many loans and most programs are online so little time away from work. I learned so much more in studying for my BSN that I was not exposed to in my ADN program. Yes my employer even gave me a promotion and large raise once I finished.

Haven't heard that one yet. But I'm sure it is coming down the

pike.

I find this difficult to believe especially because they can't suddenly decide a previous degree is worthless and refuse to renew the licenses of safe, practicing nurses. I have also heard that they were doing away with LPNs back in the early 80s. Then again I didn't find my BSN all that earth-shattering and I only received a $1 an hour raise so fairly worthless except that it was the path to my NP.

Well if it was on FB it must be true...

I seriously doubt this is true. How long has the rumor been that LPNs are going to be completely gotten rid of? How many years have we heard the BSN rumor?

and Kaplan has what dog in this fight???? TUITION for RN-BSN programs. If an RN completes required CE and other rules for licensure, I don't see how they can refuse to re-license. Hospitals are pretty much the only ones requiring the BSN There are plenty of situations for Diploma, LPN and ADN-RN positions. Especially and RN. RN is RN is RN. Until they officially do away with the others, there is no way they could enforce that.

*yawn*

I just renewed, and I'm "only" an RN, (in looooong process for my BSN) and I haven't heard a thing.

Maybe I should join FB.

I suggest you google "ADN programs in New York" and you'll get plenty of hits.

Good for you. Some of us found it to be the biggest waste of time and money they've ever engaged in - and got no raise or promotion, either.

Actually when I first hovered over the title and saw Kaplan I thought it was going to say Kaplan wasn't going to be able to crank out nursing degrees anymore, lol.

LOL!! I have never, in my entire career, heard a practicing RN say this about returning for their BSN. And the biggest raise I've ever seen was a gigantic $0.50.

I think this is all just a bunch of BS. Since when does NY not license ADN RN's?
