i noticed the thread in the prenursing forum about class of '08 and i did post there but thought maybe i would start a thread specifically for '09 and see who is out there!! (plus it would suck when everyone graduated and left me alone in the post haha) i'm using the same format as that post because it was so good. post your info. here and introduce (or re-introduce) yourself!! it would be great to be able to support one another right to the end!!
name: karen
school: brandon university, canada
program: 4 yr. bachelor of nursing
what area of interest at this time: i am just really open to anything at this point .. so much to learn and i feel that this is just opening up to me and i will figure out where my interest lies.
biggest fear: not sure of that either. i am not sure if i will gag over anything or not. maybe my biggest fear would be looking stupid, but heaven knows i've done enough of that!
what you'd like us to know about you: i'm a mom of 4 (2 boys, 2 girls) and have worked (and still do) as a christian camp director for the past 5 years. i'm really enjoying university again. i graduated back in '85 with a b.ed. the next year i took a stats course and didn't go back until 2005 fall .. so on paper it took me 26 years to complete my pre-reqs haha .. in reality i (mostly) did them all since last fall!
my really neat thing this year is that my oldest daughter is going to be going to university at the same time as me but taking music! that is a very unique opportunity!!
i'm looking forward to talking with you all and helping to encourage you any way i can! :roll

welcome!! great to have you here with us! what co-reqs will you be taking this fall?so hello all! i am very glad to have found this site and look forward to chatting with you all over the next couple of years!
i didn't get a whole lot done today. my biggest accomplishment was, aside from buying toilet paper, going over to a friend's apartment to help her get going on her nutrition assignment. i guess those were two good things .. and i got two cups of coffee in as well!
i found out yesterday that my student loan has come through for another year, at the same amount (which really seems like a nice sum!) and a large portion of it forgivable again! that is good news!!! (although i really don't know why it wouldn't have come through lol) i also saw a friend who was in a&p with me last year but didn't make it and is taking it again. it was so great to see her and i'm sad that she won't be moving on with us. oh well, i guess it happens.
i do feel slightly down today for no good reason (besides that) .. i mean, really, with that t.p. i should have no worries, right?!?!?! well, i think the amount of work i have to do to get ready for camp (we direct summer camp) is likely the thing that is dragging me down .. then i get on the computer and fritter away my time. i do need a day off, which i haven't had, so i shouldn't feel guilty but, still ...
anyhoo ..... i'm sure tomorrow will be another day and a better one at that! take care, all! make it a good one!!
it's only 2 weeks today until my orientation session!!!! woohooo!! then i have the summer to get my uniform and anything else i need to get. yeehaw!
Hey, peeps! How you doing? I hope you are enjoying some nice summer weather! It's less than 2 weeks until my orientation!! Woohoo!!! Meanwhile, we are busily getting ready for camp ..... I am looking forward to it to but somehow I am wishing for September!
What is everyone else up to these days?
Ok, Q of the day, what kind of university/college/school are you in and how big is it? How large is your nursing class going to be?
Mine: it's ... hmm ok I need to go look it up! haha
Getting down to the nitty gritty, as of Oct. 1/04 there were 2349 full time and 1034 part time students for a total of 3383 -- that's 1039 male and 2344 female. So those are slightly old stats and heaven only knows how close they are to now!! My nursing class will have 48 students. There isn't an option of people taking the BN part time, even though many ask about that option.
Our city is approx. 50,000.
The university -- oh, it's a university -- was established back in 1885 by my church (the Baptists) and became a non-demoninational corporation in 1938.
LOL alrighty, since I'm starting to bore myself, I'll turn it over to you!! Anyone else wanna share?
Just back from DC. And of course what do I do... Turn on my computer and check allnurses!!!
As for the QOD I'm at a state university. Our class size is 56 for this fall. They just added 6 more spaces and I was so happy because my friend got in. She was so sad when I saw her in class, but surprise, she got the call the day before orientation. I'm not sure how big the school of nursing is. They have an Accelerated BSN program, a generic program that admits students Fall and Spring and a BSN completion program, plus a graduate program. But it's not as big as the one private university program in town. What I heard is that they have at least 1000 students.
I'm excited next week, because I finally have a meeting with my advisor. It will be to review what classes I've already taken and plan the next 3 years.

Ya, well at least you know where your priorities are!!! Did you have fun in DC?? WELCOME BACK!!!!!!Just back from DC. And of course what do I do... Turn on my computer and check allnurses!!!
Oh, I should add that my university has a wide spectrum of degrees and courses and the Health Studies portion is only a very small portion of it. They offer B.N.'s, B.Sc.N.'s and B.Psych.N. (oh is that B.P.N. or somethin'?) Anyhoo, I guess there would be about the same # of psych nursing students per year as BN and then the B.Sc.N.s so ... ok I just confusl-ed myself again! I will see if I can find the #'s on the website but I dearly hate our U website so I don't know how far I'll get.
ETA ... (banging head very loudly with a big brass pot) just checked on our university website and they lost me when they started talking about % credit hours per faculty .. ah well ... I thought one place it looked like we could be about 8% of the entire university .. but then I hit myself with the pot again.
answering yesterday's qod:
will be going to university of mary hardin baylor that was est in 1845 by the republic of texas and is (gasp) a religious college with affiliation with the baptist general convention of texas. do you think i'll get harrassed for being an agnostic? lol!
there are 2700 part/full time students and 90% of the full-time freshmen live on campus.
the university of mary hardin-baylor is currently ranked in tier one of the u.s. news & world report as one of america's best universities in the master's west division.
woohoo! i hope the nursing school is good! i couldn't find any entries on how many students they accept each year though the overall student:teacher ratio is 15:1.
now all i have to do is figure out my loans and fafsa and all that. i've never used grants or loans for my school, i've been able to pay my tuition living at home in the past and my parents bought my books for me. now, i'm freakin' out. i don't think my mom and dad will be able to afford my books and i definitely can't pay for this myself, never mind the rent on my dump, lol. it's so freakin' confusing!! i don't know what to fill out when. i'm scared i'm going to miss deadlines and get left behind because of insufficient funding!!:uhoh21: anybody have any tips for me? i'd really appreciate any info you all have or any stories of past experiences.
anywhoo, hope you are all having a wonderful day!! don't forget to check out my site @ myspace to see all of the links that i've saved from this site for a&p, micro and the like. they're listed on my blog.
talk to you all later!
