** Any Class of '09ers out there?? Post here!!!
Woowoo kayel, WTG!! I'm so excited for you! I'm doing well, but just a little bit apprehensive about all of this the closer I get to nursing school...which is always my way...outwardly confident...inwardly self-doubting. Gotta stop doing that. Good luck this fall...we're getting closer!!! [banana]Support Bacteria! It's the only culture some people have![/banana] "Well-behaved women rarely make history" Lady Godiva Becca

answering yesterday's qod: will be going to university of mary hardin baylor that was est in 1845 by the republic of texas and is (gasp) a religious college with affiliation with the baptist general convention of texas. do you think i'll get harrassed for being an agnostic? lol! there are 2700 part/full time students and 90% of the full-time freshmen live on campus. the university of mary hardin-baylor is currently ranked in tier one of the u.s. news & world report as one of america's best universities in the master's west division. woohoo! i hope the nursing school is good! i couldn't find any entries on how many students they accept each year though the overall student:teacher ratio is 15:1. the classes in their son. now all i have to do is figure out my loans and fafsa and all that. i've never used grants or loans for my school, i've been able to pay my tuition living at home in the past and my parents bought my books for me. now, i'm freakin' out. i don't think my mom and dad will be able to afford my books and i definitely can't pay for this myself, never mind the rent on my dump, lol. it's so freakin' confusing!! i don't know what to fill out when. i'm scared i'm going to miss deadlines and get left behind because of insufficient funding!!:uhoh21: anybody have any tips for me? i'd really appreciate any info you all have or any stories of past experiences. anywhoo, hope you are all having a wonderful day!! don't forget to check out my site @ myspace to see all of the links that i've saved from this site for a&p, micro and the like. they're listed on my blog. talk to you all later! becca :monkeydance:

Pharmacology and Texas SONs
would like to ask if there are any texas nursing students/srnas out there and if you looked at several different texas nursing schools before you chose. right now i'm looking at going to the one that is located closest to me (umhb) which is attached to a level 1 trauma center (scott & white) but i'm worried about the curriculum. pharmacology is not a required course in order to start the nursing program there and at most other schools, there is at least an intro class given before you start (for ex. ut @ austin son). i'm freakin' out about this because i want to get the best education possible as i plan to go on for crna certification later. could choosing a school with no requirement for pharm hurt me in the long run?? :uhoh21: i wasn't sure where to post this on the forum, any direction would be greatly appreciated. tia becca :monkeydance: "a person without a sense of humor is like a wagon without springs. jolted by every bump in the road." henry ward beecher

Shadowing: Hitting a Brick Wall in Central TX
Thanks for the tip skipaway. I will do that. I think the reason I might be hitting some roadblocks is that I'm not technically a nursing student yet. Hopefully I will have an easier time as I enter the BSN program next fall. Thanks to everyone who replied!! :monkeydance: Becca

any other students trying to lose weight?
Yes, I'm also going to try to do a WW-esque program as I can't afford to go to the classes right now. I'm always trying to lose weight, lol, but never seem to get there. My bf says that's it's an emotional stopgap or something like that....well, what do you expect from a psych major. I spend all kinds of time on his couch, but we're not really doing...er...therapy....LOL!!! Anyway, I just recently starting having panic attacks which make me too nauseous to eat anything but small portions. Here's hoping my nerves have an effect on the size of my tummy....otherwise known as the thick cushy comforter covering my rock hard abs . I'm right there with you Michelle, I have about 85 pounds to lose as well!! :monkeydance: Becca Look!! The monkey is giving us free lessons in cardio!!!! Why are you REALLY going into nursing? Honest answers please.
1.)i want to be able to go anywhere in the country and be guaranteed a job doing something that i love. 2.)i want financial stability for myself and my future family if i decide to have one. 3.)i've always been obsessed with the medical profession. my mother is a medical transcriptionist and i have been learning the lingo since i was in the womb. 4.)when i was deciding what to be when i grew up, it was an actress (not hot or skinny enough), or a doctor (too many years in school, too many years in residency, internship, etc.). then i found the crna profession and was actually under the care of one. that solidified my decision and gave me a purpose for my life that i hadn't had before. i may not make it all the way to crna or i may decide that i want to be an o.r. or e.r. nurse, but either way, i know i'm going to love what i do. 5.)ultimately, i have to do this. i cannot stay in these crappy endless, menial jobs for my entire life and keep my sanity. if i have a different patient and different care plan to make up every 20 minutes, my add will stay satisfied, lol. monotony and repetition are my enemies, multitasking is my friend!! :monkeydance: :heartbeat :yelclap: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ becca "a person without a sense of humor is like a wagon without springs. jolted by every bump in the road." henry ward beecher "support bacteria!! it's the only culture some people have!!!"

What are the item(s) you need most for nursing school?
Thanks to everyone for all of the great suggestions and info! Now my only question...do any of you endorse a specific NCLEX-RN review book, or are they all pretty much the same?? P.S. I love the fact that you have to have a crapload of pens to make this work...because I already lug around an average of 20/class/day!!! :monkeydance: Becca

I'm taking micro in the fall and then A&PII in the spring. Right now I'm going through my Lifespan Growth and Development Psych which has been okay. The teacher's a little nutty, but who isn't? I've got all of the links pulled together, I just haven't had time to do the myspace thing. I think I'm just going to do a regular blog, that would be easier for me. Anyway, hope to have the links up by the end of this next weekend. Becca P.S. Just want to say hi to Tanzanite, Maliat and especially amybethf with her first post. Welcome to allnurses amybeth!!:groupwelcome: :monkeydance:

What classes are you taking for fall?
I'll be taking Micro and a religion course to transfer to the only local RN program which is at a Baptist University. Fun. Oh well, after this I'll only have one more religion course, A&PII, statistics and intro to nursing to take, then I'm in the nursing program (hopefully, cross my fingers that I'll earn a spot). Good luck everyone!! Becca

name: becca school: temple college to transfer next spring to umhb program: 4 yr bsn in nursing, already have my aa from tc what area of interest at this time: i would like to go on and become a crna. biggest fear: ummmmm, i guess having my nieces forget about me while i'm away at school for my crna. none of the clinical stuff gives me the heebee-jeebies. i know i can do it if i try hard enough. what you'd like us to know about you: i have two wonderful nieces that i've been attached to since birth. they are my surrogate children and my sweethearts. :heartbeat they are currently 4 and 5 and i can see the correlations between their play years and the life span growth and development chapter we're now covering. i think everyone should take that class if they plan on becoming a parent one day. i've been interested in becoming a crna since my last surgery. i had a really bad reaction :uhoh21: to the anesthetic and the crna calmed me down and helped me breathe through the pain. i told her that i loved her and she told me that it was the vicodin talking, lol! i am very excited to finish my pre-reqs and start nursing school. only 6 more classes to go!!! yay!!! :w00t: :w00t: i'll probably be asking you other class of 09'ers for help with my micro and a&p ii. those are the only two science courses i have left to take. i've recently gone through all the stickies from the pre-nursing forums and compiled a listing of all of the great links that people have put up and i'll be posting a myspace site soon with a link to those. keep on the books, 09'ers!!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "a person without a sense of humor is like a wagon without springs. jolted by every bump in the road." henry ward beecher

Pharmacology as a pre-req?
i'm a little worried since i'm going to be going to umhb next spring (to finish final pre-req of statistics and i have to take an intro to nursing class before i can enroll in the program) and they don't require a formal pharmacology class for their program. should i take one anyway to get ahead in my other classes? once i enter the nursing program their curriculum is based heavily on nursing of differing age groups like peds and adults and there will be one class in management. what do you guys think? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ becca "a person without a sense of humor is like a wagon without springs. jolted by every bump in the road." henry ward beecher nursing student fall 2007!!!:w00t:
