i noticed the thread in the prenursing forum about class of '08 and i did post there but thought maybe i would start a thread specifically for '09 and see who is out there!! (plus it would suck when everyone graduated and left me alone in the post haha) i'm using the same format as that post because it was so good. post your info. here and introduce (or re-introduce) yourself!! it would be great to be able to support one another right to the end!!

name: karen

school: brandon university, canada

program: 4 yr. bachelor of nursing

what area of interest at this time: i am just really open to anything at this point .. so much to learn and i feel that this is just opening up to me and i will figure out where my interest lies.

biggest fear: not sure of that either. i am not sure if i will gag over anything or not. maybe my biggest fear would be looking stupid, but heaven knows i've done enough of that!

what you'd like us to know about you: i'm a mom of 4 (2 boys, 2 girls) and have worked (and still do) as a christian camp director for the past 5 years. i'm really enjoying university again. i graduated back in '85 with a b.ed. the next year i took a stats course and didn't go back until 2005 fall .. so on paper it took me 26 years to complete my pre-reqs haha .. in reality i (mostly) did them all since last fall!

my really neat thing this year is that my oldest daughter is going to be going to university at the same time as me but taking music! that is a very unique opportunity!!

i'm looking forward to talking with you all and helping to encourage you any way i can! :roll

It's not that bad from Hawaii at 12 hours of travel time on a good day. I used to do this all the time when I went to college (the first time) in Vermont. I'm fine with it as long as people don't complain about how long it is from the West Coast to East Coast.

Wow, that's a pretty good flight! We were to Hawaii once but it wasn't quite as far but almost. Cool!! I especially liked that I could get up at 4:00 a.m. and feel pretty good (which now I almost pretty much do anyway lol) .. on the other hand, I got pretty sleepy at night when we were there.

I'm currently taking Advanced nursing theory and mental health II this summer and my clinicals will start July 11th. I get to first start in O.B (practice I.V's!) 2nd summer rotation will be community health, then 3rd summer rotation will be in mental health.

I'm praying I'll pass, so far classes have been rough.

Wow, that sounds pretty intense!! I hope things smooth out a bit for you. How long do you spend in clinicals per week? Sounds like fun! I can't wait to start but I know it will come soon enough and then I will be wishing it would slow down.

Hi! This is my very first post! I will graduate in '09 with an ADN. I got accepted for this fall but I know with 2 little ones compounded with the difficulty of the program I needed another year for them to get a bit older.

I am so scared about getting through the program because of the time mgmt with home and studying but I have a support system to help me.

Any advice from those with the same issues?

Howdee and welcome!! Awesome on your acceptance to nursing school!! How old are your little ones? Well, it can be a challenge. The main thing I have found (and not necessarily been successful at) is to get your own schedule down of what you need to do when and stick to it. Also, planning your study time at the library with a good set of earplugs is a really good idea. The home time with the kids also needs to be planned and you need to stick with the time you will spend with them and fight down the urge to keep at the books (this I have been HORRIBLE at). I have tried to plan study times after their bedtimes but that hasn't necessarily worked as my little guy (7) is an extreme nightowl (and stalled sleeping because I didn't spend enough time with him when I should have earlier in the evening, kwim?). That is great that you have a good support system because you will need it. I do have 4 kids but the oldest are 18 and 20 and the younger 2 are 11 and 7 so it's slightly easier now than it would have been, even though my attentions are pulled in many different directions at once.

Anyway, great to see you and I look forward to chatting with you further! Gotta go get ready for my day!

So when do you take these courses? Are you doing them now or is that in the fall term?

I'm taking micro in the fall and then A&PII in the spring. Right now I'm going through my Lifespan Growth and Development Psych which has been okay. The teacher's a little nutty, but who isn't?

I've got all of the links pulled together, I just haven't had time to do the myspace thing. I think I'm just going to do a regular blog, that would be easier for me. Anyway, hope to have the links up by the end of this next weekend.

P.S. Just want to say hi to Tanzanite, Maliat and especially amybethf with her first post. Welcome to allnurses amybeth!!:groupwelcome: :monkeydance:

program: bsn

what area of interest at this time: hmmm....np .........

biggest fear: failing

what you'd like us to know about you: well...i'm not a mom....(yet?) annndddd i cant wait to start clinical classes!

Hi everyone!!!! I started on my journey 10 years ago after graduating from high school. I took the entrance exam for the nursing program at my local cc--and when done opted to not find out the results!! I was so scared and had no idea what I had just taken! I felt like i was reading another language....so, I gave up on that idea, started hanging out with friends instead of going to class (real bright) and eventually dropped out of college :o ...

Since then I had acquired bills...car, credit cards, etc etc, making it impossible for me to go to school during the day. I was interested in pursuing nursing again but unfortunately the only program available to me was full-time day, which I couldn't afford to do. So, once again, I gave up. I tried to pursue something I could complete at night and still work during the day (paralegal).....

Just when I thought I was destined to work in my current job forever (retail florist) I called another local cc, just on a whim, to inquire about their nursing program...I was shocked when she asked me ifwould be interested in the night program!!!!! And, turned out, now that I had paid off my debt I could go to school 2 days during the week and still work enough hours (for benefits)....

So, I just finished my prereqs and I'm applying in November.

I guess I always wanted to be a nurse, but the timing just wasn't right....

Wish me luck!!!!!

Ya, we're all a little nutty. My Human Growth and Development prof was pretty -- uh -- scattered and so the course was not my fav but I kept thinking it could be so good!! Ah well! Hope yours continues to go well!!

Andrea! Welcome to the gang and hope you get a lot out of the forums!! Look forward to talking to you more! I can't wait to start clinicals either.

3rdgenrn2b! Welcome to you also! So I take it your mom/dad and grandma/granddad are nurses and you are following the family tradition .. or was it just a cool name? lol GL with your application! That's awesome that you are back to school.

Anyway, I was away for a few days so it's great to see some action in this post and a few more people finding us!

Wow -- I see a class of 2010 post in the pre nursing forum!! That's cool! Not sure why I'm so intrigued by that but ... LOL!

hey there hi there ho there, how was everyone's weekend? hope it was great!! i just got home from my world tour -- ok, more of a poor girl's non-celeb world tour to parts in manitoba and saskatchewan. haha. hope everyone is doing great and gearing up for a good summer -- what will you do with what is left of your spring (all 2 days of it)?

I'm just finishing up a summer class (3 days to go!!) and then I'm taking the rest of the summer off...actually going to Oregon in August (never been-heard it's gorgeous!!) and then I start Public Speaking and A&P 1 this fall....

My mom and grandmother are both RN's so I will be a third generation RN..

Kayel-thanks for starting this thread!!! Hi to all '09ers!!!
