i noticed the thread in the prenursing forum about class of '08 and i did post there but thought maybe i would start a thread specifically for '09 and see who is out there!! (plus it would suck when everyone graduated and left me alone in the post haha) i'm using the same format as that post because it was so good. post your info. here and introduce (or re-introduce) yourself!! it would be great to be able to support one another right to the end!!

what area of interest at this time: i am just really open to anything at this point .. so much to learn and i feel that this is just opening up to me and i will figure out where my interest lies.
biggest fear: not sure of that either. i am not sure if i will gag over anything or not. maybe my biggest fear would be looking stupid, but heaven knows i've done enough of that!
what you'd like us to know about you: i'm a mom of 4 (2 boys, 2 girls) and have worked (and still do) as a christian camp director for the past 5 years. i'm really enjoying university again. i graduated back in '85 with a b.ed. the next year i took a stats course and didn't go back until 2005 fall .. so on paper it took me 26 years to complete my pre-reqs haha .. in reality i (mostly) did them all since last fall!
my really neat thing this year is that my oldest daughter is going to be going to university at the same time as me but taking music! that is a very unique opportunity!!
i'm looking forward to talking with you all and helping to encourage you any way i can! :roll
so what classes, if any, are you taking in the fall? (did i ask ths already? sorry, if yes. i know it's been in other threads)
here's my lineup... not completely sure of scheduling yet ...
nursing applications i (and lab)
nursing foundations ii
intro. to pharmacology
human reponses i
health assessment (and lab)
nursing practice i
we will find out more at orientation, which, yeah, i'm still looking foward to! it will be so nice to get a bit more info.
I'm only taking 7 credits for the first semester. I had a meeting with the nursing school advisor and I don't have any other classes other than nursing to take. I took all the prereqs and coreqs already and don't have to worry about general education requirements because it's my second degree.
So I'm taking:
Professional Nursing 1 (known as Health Assesment by students) 2 credits
Professional Nursing 1 Lab 2 credits
Psychosocial Concepts in Health Care 3 credits
Now I have nothing to do until our CPR class in August. I may try to volunteer somewhere. I'll actually have time to continue to do this through the Fall, so I might as well see if I can get my foot in the door somewhere.

I'm doing my CPR in a week from Friday, with our camp staff. It will be nice to get it out of the way for another year!
Maliat, what is your first degree again, I forget? I have a Bachelor of Education from before. It was a 4 year degree but now you can't get it as a single degree like I did. I minored in psych, don't ask me why I would do that but I was planning to go on to Speech Path afterwards. It was nice to have some of the courses count toward this degree! How many of yours were you able to use? In the fog of being up in the middle of the night, I can't remember all mine but I know Stats, some English courses and electives were among them.

wow, i hope you don't get too burnt out with all of that, kayel! i'm still mucking through my pre-reqs. starting to gear up for micro. hope everyone is doing well!

I'm looking at the worksheet they gave us and exactly 2 classes were carried over from my previous degree: Eng 100 & Psych 100. Though there are 5 classes of general education crossed off that I don't have to take.
My previous degree was in American Studies. I started off in Hawaii at the same community college I took most of my nursing prereqs. And then transfered to a small liberal arts college in Vermont to finish my degree. I still love history, but I don't think I ever used it other than to say I have a BA. I was in a Masters in Library and Information Science program for 2 years, and was close to graduating. But I was having so many health problems, that I eventually went on Leave of Absense. I suppose I could still finish it if I really wanted to, but I no longer have the motivation.
What time of night have you been checking allnurses? I'm on late compared to most, being on Hawaii time, but you always seem to be on even later.

Well, it's this way .. we have moved up to camp and into our room so at the moment there are 5 of us all together (our oldest son isn't with us) (until tomorrow, then there'll be 4). At home I could turn on the t.v. if I couldn't sleep so sometimes I've been getting up in the middle of the night to go online or to do work. LOL! Not the best habit to be in! I haven't been sleeping too well either as my mind is racing with all the things that need to be done. So ... that's that! What time of night have you been checking allnurses? I'm on late compared to most, being on Hawaii time, but you always seem to be on even later.
I looked up what credits I was able to use from my previous degree and it's 3 Cr.H. of English, 3 cr.h. Stats and 6 cr.h. of electives in (oh I forget what but it was something like English, Sciences, Health Studies) for my pre nursing year. Then I have 3 cr.h. of electives in third year that will be covered from before also.
Anyhooo, family camp tomorrow so I need to get some sleep tomorrow to be able to get up bright and early to get things ready! You never know, though; I might be up in the middle of the night trying to chase away the mind gremlins. Did I ever tell you I went to Hawaii only once? I love loved it! I also loved that I could get up at 4 in the morning for real and feel rested (since the time difference helped me out) ... we used the time to phone our kids, who were very small at the time, and staying home with grandma and granddaddy.
Well, guys! I had my orientation today!!! Yay! It was nice to find out a bit more about what's happening in the fall. I still don't exactly know my lab times but I understand how they are doing it now anyway! How is everyone doing??
Woowoo kayel, WTG!! I'm so excited for you! I'm doing well, but just a little bit apprehensive about all of this the closer I get to nursing school...which is always my way...outwardly confident...inwardly self-doubting. Gotta stop doing that. Good luck this fall...we're getting closer!!!

Yeah, I know what you mean! Hang in there; school here will be here before you know it!! I just saw one of my fellow classmates yesterday. She was dropping her daughter off at our camp and she said she is feeling really excited and nervous! It was nice to see someone who is in the same boat as me. At least I have lots to distract me for the next month (with camp, that is)....outwardly confident...inwardly self-doubting.
Well I was just sorting through the medical cabinet here to see what all we are running low on so .. gotta go check the freezers for ice packs now. We do have a nurse on staff this week but she had a shift last night so I've been unofficially doing the duty for now.
Toodle ooo ..... have a great day!!

What area of interest at this time: I'm very interested in L&D because the RN who inspired me to go into nursing was
Biggest fear: well since I'm doing prereq's this year, I'm really nervous that I won't get into the program for '07 (and then my post won't belong here with you '09ers ) I'm getting ready for a lot of studying... which is weird for me because I have never been the studying type. I've always done really well in school but this feels more important to me than all the previous years.
What you'd like us to know about you: hmmm... nothing much . just that I'm really excited to become a nurse. I went to Purdue University for several years following a computer graphics degree... when I knew it wasn't right for me I walked away only 4 classes away from my degree. Now I'm ready to finish my new dream.
