i noticed the thread in the prenursing forum about class of '08 and i did post there but thought maybe i would start a thread specifically for '09 and see who is out there!! (plus it would suck when everyone graduated and left me alone in the post haha) i'm using the same format as that post because it was so good. post your info. here and introduce (or re-introduce) yourself!! it would be great to be able to support one another right to the end!!

program: 4 yr. bachelor of nursing
what area of interest at this time: i am just really open to anything at this point .. so much to learn and i feel that this is just opening up to me and i will figure out where my interest lies.
biggest fear: not sure of that either. i am not sure if i will gag over anything or not. maybe my biggest fear would be looking stupid, but heaven knows i've done enough of that!
what you'd like us to know about you: i'm a mom of 4 (2 boys, 2 girls) and have worked (and still do) as a christian camp director for the past 5 years. i'm really enjoying university again. i graduated back in '85 with a b.ed. the next year i took a stats course and didn't go back until 2005 fall .. so on paper it took me 26 years to complete my pre-reqs haha .. in reality i (mostly) did them all since last fall!
my really neat thing this year is that my oldest daughter is going to be going to university at the same time as me but taking music! that is a very unique opportunity!!
i'm looking forward to talking with you all and helping to encourage you any way i can! :roll

school: currently portland community college/applying to ohsu...so maybe i'm in the class '10?
program: 4 yr. bachelor of nursing
what area of interest at this time: labor & delivery. :)
biggest fear: not being able to handle my family & school.
what you'd like us to know about you: my biggest desire is to be a midwife. i have to start with the nursing program. right now i'm too scared i'm not smart enough to get into the midwifery program...so hopefully completing the nursing portion will build up my confidence!
name: dorselm
school: upmc shadyside school of nursing
program: diploma-nursing
what area of interest at this time: labor & delivery and geriatrics. i want to do l&d because i have helped at least 3 women in my family deliver babies. i make an excellent coach. i also had to pull a puppy out of my dog when she was in labor because she just stopped pushing. i want to go work in geriatrics because older adults get treated so badly in nursing homes and hospitals and lots of times they are left to die alone and i want to be there to comfort as many as i can. :)
biggest fear: not being able to handle my family & school.
what you'd like us to know about you: i was an accountant for about 5 years. i couldn't stand my work. i didn't make a lot of money because i didn't like what i did. i worked in the corporate headquarters of a fortune 500 company. the office politics were so petty that it was stressful being at work. i did the same thing every month. i sat at a desk all day, i worked on a computer and saw nothing but numbers day in and day out. i ended up being fired because i couldn't keep up with the work. i was taking pre-requisites for nursing and they wanted me to go back to school for accounting and being that i couldn't do both, i was let go. it turned out to be a blessing because now i will go to school for something that i was meant to do and will have greater job satisfaction. although i know that the nursing field is highly stressful as well, it will be worth it! i pray that all on this board finish school wherever you study and that you all go on to become excellent nurses, administrators, teachers, nurse anesthetists, or whatever you decide to be in the field of nursing!
Hey guys-
It's great to hear from others who have 3 years to go like me.
Walked up the university today. Have to wait still to register, but was able to pick up a couple of my books that were used. And Saturday is my CPR class. Can't wiat to see some of my classmates.
What are you up to in the last weeks before classes start?

I have 5 classes left until I apply to the nursing program. I hope to attend Broward Community College because they have an online program and it's more convient. The online program is where I take my courses online and take my exams on campus and attend clinicals at the hospital that they assign you took in Broward County, Florida. After I'm done with my pre-reqs, I hope to be accepted to the program. I will be finished with my prereqs in the summer of 07. I hope to graduate from the program in 2009.
That's awesome -- I hope you make it!! What classes do you still have to take?I have 5 classes left until I apply to the nursing program. Hey, guys! I FINALLY started my self-guided study package. It is supposed to be done before we start and we have a test on it and some math questions the first week back. It shouldn't be too bad .. I'm just pumped that I actually started it.
Does anyone else have some pre-class work that they need to do? Are you reviewing anything before classes start?
Heya! Welcome!I think i am officialy a class of 09er eventhough i am a junior. i transfered so i have like 3 years in the program. did 2 years of pre-nursing then transfered. but its all good.
A lot of the people in my program have taken 2 years or more for their prenursing year. I think it's good to take your time if you can. We just have to have everything from our pre-nursing requirements completed before applying for "second year".
Were you going full time pursuing something else or has this always been your goal? Do you start in the fall and is it pretty intense from here on in?
Our schedule looks pretty brutal compared to what I had last year. It is kind of like I am getting into it gradually I guess. My prereqs were 40% covered by an earlier degree and so I had a 60% load .. it worked out that I had more courses second term though .. so I kind of eased into it but it was pretty intense by the end.
Hi Kayel,
I still have anatomy and physiology 2, Microbiology, Chemistry, Critical Thinking and Ethics and Human Growth and Development. I'm taking Anatomy and Physiology 1 this semester and I had plans on taking Critical thinking and ethics and Human growth and development. But This week I got news that I'm suppose to be relocating towards the end of the year to Macon, GA and the nursing school at Macon State College don't require All the same classes as Miami-Dade Community College. Since I have an Associates Degree in Business Administration, I have completed most of the general education courses expect science courses such as Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 2 and Microbiology. Once I complete Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 2 and Microbiology I understand that I can apply to the program, So I'm working on taking Anatomy and Physiology this semester.
I'm determined to make it. Thanks for your support.
