** Any Class of '09ers out there?? Post here!!!

Published

i noticed the thread in the prenursing forum about class of '08 and i did post there but thought maybe i would start a thread specifically for '09 and see who is out there!! (plus it would suck when everyone graduated and left me alone in the post haha) i'm using the same format as that post because it was so good. post your info. here and introduce (or re-introduce) yourself!! it would be great to be able to support one another right to the end!!

name: karen

school: brandon university, canada

program: 4 yr. bachelor of nursing

what area of interest at this time: i am just really open to anything at this point .. so much to learn and i feel that this is just opening up to me and i will figure out where my interest lies.

biggest fear: not sure of that either. i am not sure if i will gag over anything or not. maybe my biggest fear would be looking stupid, but heaven knows i've done enough of that!

what you'd like us to know about you: i'm a mom of 4 (2 boys, 2 girls) and have worked (and still do) as a christian camp director for the past 5 years. i'm really enjoying university again. i graduated back in '85 with a b.ed. the next year i took a stats course and didn't go back until 2005 fall .. so on paper it took me 26 years to complete my pre-reqs haha .. in reality i (mostly) did them all since last fall!

my really neat thing this year is that my oldest daughter is going to be going to university at the same time as me but taking music! that is a very unique opportunity!!

i'm looking forward to talking with you all and helping to encourage you any way i can! :roll

Hi Kayel,

I still have anatomy and physiology 2, Microbiology, Chemistry, Critical Thinking and Ethics and Human Growth and Development. I'm taking Anatomy and Physiology 1 this semester and I had plans on taking Critical thinking and ethics and Human growth and development. But This week I got news that I'm suppose to be relocating towards the end of the year to Macon, GA and the nursing school at Macon State College don't require All the same classes as Miami-Dade Community College. Since I have an Associates Degree in Business Administration, I have completed most of the general education courses expect science courses such as Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 2 and Microbiology. Once I complete Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 2 and Microbiology I understand that I can apply to the program, So I'm working on taking Anatomy and Physiology this semester.

I'm determined to make it. Thanks for your support.

Ooo I'm getting that back-to-school buzz reading your post! lol! I enjoyed A&P and Microbiology .. good courses! Can't say I exactly enjoyed Human Growth and Dev but my teacher was a dud and could have been a great course. I think I have her team teaching one course again this year .. maybe that won't be as bad, though. Have you checked with Macon State to see what you should be doing re prereqs? It would be the pits to waste course money and aggravate yourself with courses you don't need!!

Yay, my dh just brought me some coffee and a muffin! Gotta go! Take care and I look forward to hearing more about your progress.

Hi Kayel,

Yes, I have checked with Macon State College and I found out that I only need the science pre-req courses like Anatomy I and II and Microbiology in order to apply to the RN program being that I have already completed the other general education courses. I'm taking Anatomy and Physiology 1 this semester. I will be ready to apply by either the spring or fall of 2007. Good luck with your schooling and again thanks for your support.

Ok .. had a few moments of panic tonight while going through my preterm unit. The material brought back the feeling of having so much info. and not knowing how to process it and the mean (at times) lab instructor I had last year. What if all my teaches are mean this year. Haha, silly me. Anyway, I'm sure I will feel better tomorrow. How is everyone else doing?

Hi, '09ers!

Next week is the start of my sophmore year--I can't wait! I'm just curious what everyone else is taking. I'll be taking:

  • Fundamentals of Adult Health Nursing
  • Practicum in Adult Health Nursing
  • Skills in Adult Health Nursing
  • Health Assessment
  • Health Assessment Lab
  • Applied Nutrition for Nursing
  • Presentation Graphics (just to give me enough credits so I'm full-time)

Most of my class will also be taking micro, but I took that a couple years ago. I have no idea what some of the classes involve except that we finally get to learn something useful! NOT that philosophy and sociology aren't useful . . . :lol2:

So what's everyone else taking? And are you ready?

Lori

Wooo hooo, how exciting! Sounds like quite the course lineup! Another 3 weeks for me! I agree, I haven't a clue about what most of my classes will involve but, like you say, finally something truly concrete toward nursing!

Let's see .. what am I taking .... here is what I am taking in first term:

Nursing Applications I

Nursing Applications I Lab

Intro to Pharmacology

Nursing Foundations II

Human Responses I

Health Assessment

Health Assessment Lab

Nursing Practice I (in hospital)

Okay when am I going to have time to study and sleep and do other things? Hmmmm

I am basically ready but I still have a few purchases to do -- white shoes, patient gown, good watch and the reading guides for several of the courses that haven't been put out on the bookshelves yet. I have my immunizations done except the final (3rd) Hep A/B which I can get on Wed. and only the 1st 2 need to be done by the beginning of school anyway. I still have to just get the people at the nursing station at my doctor's office to sign the form I had after finishing up everything else last week (I figured I'd give them the week to get results back to my folder lol).

We are taking a few days off to go into the big city (or somewhere) to just hang out (without working!) and I thought I would look for the shoes and watch and maybe a second set of scrubs when we were there .. give me a mission for my shopping!

Enjoy your last week off before the real work kicks in. That is so exciting that it's NEXT WEEK for you! Hope you aren't so excited that you can't sleep yet!

Hi! Enjoy your trip--I'm sure in a few months you'll really be appreciating those few days!

I still need to get scrubs and I've only got my first Hep B so I'll get the second this week. My sister kindly bought me shoes--back in May, I think. Can't wait to actually wear them!

I feel like a little kid going back to school, looking at all the school supplies, etc. I confess to buying more notebooks and highlighters than I could possibly use in the three years left of school, but I couldn't help myself!

ONE WEEK! YEA! My daughter, who's 13, is jealous. She's ready to go back to school, too, but we have a new state law in effect this year that public schools can't start until after Labor Day. Glad colleges don't have to abide by that--I'd go nuts!

Have fun on your trip! :balloons:

Hey there! I posted under the 2008 thread as well, as that is the year I will graduate with my associate's degree, but in 2009 I will grad. with my BSN, so I count as both.

I start school on August 23rd, and am very excited!

Good luck to all of you through nursing school, and rock-on class of 2009!!!!!

My uniform for school is one the last things on my list. They didn't have them in stock yet the last time I was at the bookstore. Got my books, and think I have enough school stuff (paper, pens, folders, etc.). My schedule is much lighter than yours. It helps that I've already taken all the prereqs and coreqs.

Professional Nursing I (Health Assessment)

Professional Nursing I Lab

Psychosocial Nursing Concepts

Now I just have to register later this morning and fix my computer (don't even want to talk about that one.)

Hey, Nessa! It's fun to hear what they call the classes at different schools, when I'm sure they all boil down to the same thing. I can't believe you have to wait until the 25th--torture!! :angryfire I'm annoying my hubby and daughter by occasionally (too often) singing, "Next week, I start next week!" I wonder if people in other programs are this excited? I mean, I just can't imagine an accounting major getting this excited about the start of school. :lol2:

omg ur telling me. i am soooooo bored. i have been out of school since may 14th. i am tired of being home. no job cuz i dont know why. i put in for some but everytime something messes me up from getting it. so u know what my life is like right now. i just cant wait for school to start. its funny how people get all like "oh i cant wait for school to be over". school gives u something to do people!!!! lol . lucky u start school next week. just rub it in my face through the screen why dont you. :uhoh3: lol. but im happy for u. have fun. blog about it. i know i will on myspace.

i think its the passion that makes us excited. because without passion it will be dull, annoying, and boring.
