i noticed the thread in the prenursing forum about class of '08 and i did post there but thought maybe i would start a thread specifically for '09 and see who is out there!! (plus it would suck when everyone graduated and left me alone in the post haha) i'm using the same format as that post because it was so good. post your info. here and introduce (or re-introduce) yourself!! it would be great to be able to support one another right to the end!!
name: karen
school: brandon university, canada
program: 4 yr. bachelor of nursing
what area of interest at this time: i am just really open to anything at this point .. so much to learn and i feel that this is just opening up to me and i will figure out where my interest lies.
biggest fear: not sure of that either. i am not sure if i will gag over anything or not. maybe my biggest fear would be looking stupid, but heaven knows i've done enough of that!
what you'd like us to know about you: i'm a mom of 4 (2 boys, 2 girls) and have worked (and still do) as a christian camp director for the past 5 years. i'm really enjoying university again. i graduated back in '85 with a b.ed. the next year i took a stats course and didn't go back until 2005 fall .. so on paper it took me 26 years to complete my pre-reqs haha .. in reality i (mostly) did them all since last fall!
my really neat thing this year is that my oldest daughter is going to be going to university at the same time as me but taking music! that is a very unique opportunity!!
i'm looking forward to talking with you all and helping to encourage you any way i can! :roll
Hee hee .. nice to see someone else up still! (just after 1 here) I agree re nervousness and excitement vying for top spot!! I have been e-mailing a few of my school friends and they seem to be in the same boat as us. Anyway, now I really need to get to bed. I had a lack-of-coffee headache earlier .. then had a XL cup at 7:00 or so which was likely a mistake but at least I got a bit of studying in my hyper state!! As you can see, I am still in that state but I am going to go to bed and read something boring .. maybe a textbook lol. Talk to you later and thanks for the smile!I'd be Pillsbury Dough Girl anyday--at least there's the cute little "hee hee!" when you're poked in the belly!
I met with a classmate tonight and we're trying to determine if we're nervous or excited. Some of both, I guess, but I'm getting more excited by the day! And school is a great excuse to do a little shopping (not that I need an excuse!)

For me, I would describe it as being anxious. I'm not worried about this being a total disaster and failing, yet... But I'm doing my best not to obsess about the little things. My favorite obsession is what are we going to do the first day of classes. Do I need to bring all my books and supplies?
So for my last free weekend, I'm doing as much as possible to relax. I took the week off from work and slowly checking off everything on my list.

HEY! How was your first day of nursing school?? How was the relaxing weekend? Hope it all was great! I can't wait to hear so post when you get a chance! It's still another 2 weeks for me!So for my last free weekend, I'm doing as much as possible to relax. I took the week off from work and slowly checking off everything on my list.

The big plus, compared to other's schools, they start us off really slow. Our clinical/lecture class is just health assessment and physical examination. But boy is it a lot to learn. The funny part is that our lecture for that class is scheduled for Friday, while the lab and clinical is for Monday/Tuesday. We don't go to clinical for the first two weeks. The main thing we covered today was health history interviews and we started on the vital signs.
For my psychosocial nursing class, they have it structured to meet the university's requirement for a upper division oral communications course. Lots of group work, and we will have a videotaped interview.
I'm probably not making much sense now. It was just too much to take in at once. I got home last night, and had some readings to do. I also wanted to put together my new desk, but gave up before I had even put together the drawer. Luckily I have two days off, before my last lecture on Friday. And then we have a special orientation on Saturday, along with our pledging ceremony.
That's all for now.

Hi, all!
OK, the first week is basically done--just a one credit computer class tomorrow night. And the good news . . . I'm still glad I'm in nursing school! Of course we haven't covered anything too tough yet. How to wash our hands and don sterile gloves. Yup, not the most exciting, but still, it's better than philosophy and communications!!
We got a tour of the hospital, along with our id badges. These allow us to, among other fun things, access the hospital library at 3 in the morning if we want to. Ummm, yeah. Hoping that won't be necessary. :nuke:
Also great news that we don't HAVE to wear our scrubs until the second half of the semester when we do nursing home clinicals. Maybe by then they'll decide white is SOOOO last year, and go with something nice instead. Wishful thinking.
Anyway, it's GREAT to be back in school. I'm a little overwhelmed by how much reading there will be, but that's ok. Most of my class has to take micro this semester, but I've already taken it so my semester will be a breeze compared to theirs. So, no complaints. Yet.
How's everyone else doing?
Lori
I will hopefully be graduating in 2009 with my BSN. I am awaiting an acceptance letter from University of Nebraska Medical Center so I can start in January. I would eventually like to be a nurse practitioner or PA. I have 3 kids and a husband and I work part time as an EMT. The waiting is killing me! And I have no idea what I will do if they don't accept me.
Hey, tigress and jeppsonm! Nice to see you! GL with your plans .. look forward to talking with you more over the next 3 years!
Malia, sounds awesome about your first few days!! I hope our school starts us off gradually .. lol nahhhh wouldn't be my luck! Actually the first week is more orientation sessions and getting some of the routine things (like name tags, etc.) out of the way. Sounds really exciting for you anyway!! Did you get that desk put together?
Lori, wtg on your first week back! Sounds like it was good too and I'm glad you're still glad to be in nursing school!! Good news about the scrubs! I hope they change it too but I wouldn't hold your breath lol! Have fun with all that reading!
I'm still plugging away at the self study course they gave us -- veeery slowly and am starting to panic slightly. I'm also still at my summer job so it's difficult to find enough time for everything. Ah, I guess that is just preparing me for school in -- gulp -- 11 days! (Yay!!)
Have a good day, everyone!
Had my 2nd orientation day today. Some of it was boring.:trout: But you glean little tidbits of info that are important. Like every semester we'll have to take HESI tests to go with all of our clinical classes. And for major papers, we'll have to send to some website (turnitin.com) to check for plagiarism. I don't know about that. I mean I've spent my time at a small college where they trusted you and graduate school, so doing this seems very foreign to me.
We also got some great stress releiving tips. And lots of information on time management. They had some students come in to explain their techniques. There was one girl who read 2-3 weeks ahead. She would read alot during the first weeks of school, so she can spend the rest of the semester ahead of the readings. I'm going to try it, but I doubt it will last long.
