Published

i noticed the thread in the prenursing forum about class of '08 and i did post there but thought maybe i would start a thread specifically for '09 and see who is out there!! (plus it would suck when everyone graduated and left me alone in the post haha) i'm using the same format as that post because it was so good. post your info. here and introduce (or re-introduce) yourself!! it would be great to be able to support one another right to the end!!

name: karen

school: brandon university, canada

program: 4 yr. bachelor of nursing

what area of interest at this time: i am just really open to anything at this point .. so much to learn and i feel that this is just opening up to me and i will figure out where my interest lies.

biggest fear: not sure of that either. i am not sure if i will gag over anything or not. maybe my biggest fear would be looking stupid, but heaven knows i've done enough of that!

what you'd like us to know about you: i'm a mom of 4 (2 boys, 2 girls) and have worked (and still do) as a christian camp director for the past 5 years. i'm really enjoying university again. i graduated back in '85 with a b.ed. the next year i took a stats course and didn't go back until 2005 fall .. so on paper it took me 26 years to complete my pre-reqs haha .. in reality i (mostly) did them all since last fall!

my really neat thing this year is that my oldest daughter is going to be going to university at the same time as me but taking music! that is a very unique opportunity!!

i'm looking forward to talking with you all and helping to encourage you any way i can! :roll

ohh me! *raises hand* I'm a 2009er! Nice meeting u all!
Hey, Ashley, how's it going? Do you have any more video links or study helps from U of M? I just ran across that one in the nursing videos link and I found them really helpful as those seem to be straight from our Nursing Applications lab!! I had my first lab on Friday but it felt like they didn't explain some things enough as it was the last lab of the day .. or maybe I was just tired and sick of coughing and not concentrating. Anyway, our programs are affiliated so they should be quite a bit the same! Any input is appreciated! Just wanted to really thank you for posting that one in the other thread as well! Our school website does not offer much help at all.

Take care!

How are ya, people? I had my first 3 days of school -- mostly orientation but some lecture. A lot of it was a tad boring but mostly good. I have a cough which isn't helping and isn't going away but .. oh well. Yesterday we had a Nursing Applications lab and that was at least hands-on.

What is everyone else up to these days?

Poor thing. I know exactly how you feel. I'm getting over a cold from two weeks ago. Lots of fluids and rest this weekend.

We had our first clinicals this week. It was just practicing getting health history, doing vitals and a mini-mental assessment. This week is our first exam. Everyone's going crazy with study groups, but I've decided to study on my own. Maybe I'll get together with a couple of friends later on this week.

Oh and you're "looking" at the president of the Spring '09 class. I have no idea yet what I have to do for this. But it will look great on my resume.

Woohoo!! Congratulations on your presidency! (or however you say it!) Hope you get all better over the weekend from your cold!! Take care! :nurse:

Oh! I think I found where they were from. It's nice to have a helpful website!!

Had my orientation for our nursing practice today! First time I wore the white uniform .. fun .. it was pretty good; it seems like a lot to remember in a short time and in that sense it's overwhelming but I think we all had a pretty good time! I am in a group of six and we are on a surgical ward. Anyway, just thought I'd check in and see what everyone's up to! Take care!

Had my second clinical last night. It was ok. We started out by taking vitals and were a little nervous but once we got to it, it wasn't too bad!

How is everyone else in '09sville doing? What is everyone doing? Hope to talk soon!

I'm doing well. We just had our first test last week and our first paper due this week. Survived that ok. What was really fun was today when we had our nursing school picnic. Though I did get a little sunburned.

Next week's clinicals will be interesting becuase we are going to the prison. It's supposed to be the best place to practice our assessment and examination skills. Can't wait.

name: amanda

school: grossmont community college

program: 2 yr. adn

what area of interest at this time: i am open to anything since i haven't started yet... maybe eventually oncology or or nursing?

biggest fear: getting into the program & not doing as well as i thought i would, or not being organized and coordinated enough to keep up with everyone/everything.

what you'd like us to know about you: i graduated from ucsd two years ago with a ba in sociology, but nursing is what i've wanted to do since high school. i'm still on the waiting list at grossmont... this will be my second year waiting & it feels like it's taking forever.

hi everbody!

i have been accepted for the pre-nursing program at University of Cincinnati. I am planning to go into the BSN program ( god willing!) anyway, i am woried that maybe i waited too long. I am 47! ( I have kids in college for god's sake!! :chair: LOL!) I am a former Iowan and am wondering if it wouldn't be quicker to apply to indian hills and go for their adn program. otherwise i will graduate in 2010!!!!!!!:nurse:

Heya, welcome!! Oh well, don't worry about being too old -- there are lots of people who get going at it in their 40's and 50's and I've heard of a few in their 60's. I am likely the oldest in my class (not totally sure) and no one really seems to care much! Congratulations on being accepted in to the U of Cincinnati pre-nursing! Looking forward to talking with you more!

Hi! Are you feeling okay? Hope you never got that cold! My cough is so much better .. amazing what a little medication can do in the system (it's allergy-asthma related). We've had a pop quiz so far but an exam and essay due next week. Hope yours was ok. Now have you been to clinicals at the prison or is that next week? It sounds like your labs are a lot like ours (re health assessment that you were talking about in an earlier post).

Clinicals are going okay -- we have three under our belts now and just kind of jumped right in there! It was difficult last night as there were several people that I knew in hospital that I was caring for -- difficult in the sense that I wanted to talk with them more and wanted to share when I got home but I didn't. With one of them I was kicking myself because I didn't ask if I could share that I saw them with my husband but timing didn't work out that way. Oh well ........

So this weekend I am writing that essay and studying. How fun is that? lol SOOOOOOOOOOOO much reading to do for each course. Fortunately they are so far understanding and aren't acting like each course is the only one that we have ... but that's likely only a matter of time ... obviously it's up to us to prioritize properly and time manage to get everything done and I'm not sure if their patience will or should hold out for too long in that regard, kwim?
