i noticed the thread in the prenursing forum about class of '08 and i did post there but thought maybe i would start a thread specifically for '09 and see who is out there!! (plus it would suck when everyone graduated and left me alone in the post haha) i'm using the same format as that post because it was so good. post your info. here and introduce (or re-introduce) yourself!! it would be great to be able to support one another right to the end!!
name: karen
school: brandon university, canada
program: 4 yr. bachelor of nursing
what area of interest at this time: i am just really open to anything at this point .. so much to learn and i feel that this is just opening up to me and i will figure out where my interest lies.
biggest fear: not sure of that either. i am not sure if i will gag over anything or not. maybe my biggest fear would be looking stupid, but heaven knows i've done enough of that!
what you'd like us to know about you: i'm a mom of 4 (2 boys, 2 girls) and have worked (and still do) as a christian camp director for the past 5 years. i'm really enjoying university again. i graduated back in '85 with a b.ed. the next year i took a stats course and didn't go back until 2005 fall .. so on paper it took me 26 years to complete my pre-reqs haha .. in reality i (mostly) did them all since last fall!
my really neat thing this year is that my oldest daughter is going to be going to university at the same time as me but taking music! that is a very unique opportunity!!
i'm looking forward to talking with you all and helping to encourage you any way i can! :roll

biggest fear: not being able to figure out which field i want to do
what you'd like us to know about you: i spent a couple of years at an education major at another school...now i'm pre-nursing and in my last quarter of prereqs...i'll be starting nursing in march 2007
welcome! i did my education degree years ago and am back for nursing! how many courses have you been able to use for your nursing degree? how is school going this term and what courses are you taking at the moment? what made you decide to switch?name: livezenschool: wright state university, ohio

How many courses have I gotten to use? Not that many, sadly. Basically I got credit for history, some english, biology, general chemistry, anatomy, and psychology I...for two and a half years worth of classes. Ah well! How did getting credits work for you?
School is going really well this quarter. I am taking Microbiology (looking like I'll get a B), Freshman English (for some reason my school decided that Freshman Honors Writing Seminar from my old school wasn't equivalent to English I/II....ooook... I'll get an A, it's been really easy!), and Personal Finance (just to stay full-time...not that hard, I'll get an A I think). We have finals on Wednesday! Then I am off for a quarter because my nursing classes won't start till march. What about you?
I just though that nursing would be a better fit for me. Faster paced, more variety, but still helping people. What led you to switch?
Name: Renee
School: Graduating from Valencia Community College in December / Awaiting acceptance to FGCU and FAU Fall 2007 nursing programs. Also applying to Nova Southeastern University.
Program: 4 yr. Bachelor of Nursing
What area of interest at this time: I know for sure that I want to do bedside nursing for about 10 years (Labor and Delivery or Public Health), but I eventually want to go into teaching.
Biggest fear: mmm.. i don't know if i have one towards nursing
What you'd like us to know about you: I'm 22 years old and a full blown Floridian!
I didn't really get to use too many from education ... just the electives really and then I had taken stats just after I graduated so that counted as a prerequisite also (fortunately had an "unlimited" expiry date lol). I think the electives amounted to 4 courses over the entire 4 years but, hey, I'll take it!! I am looking forward to 3rd year as that's when one of the electives is scheduled and I'll have one less course (pant pant). How many courses have I gotten to use? Not that many, sadly. . . I love the variety that nursing has to offer and I have always felt drawn to the medical profession but just wasn't sure exactly how. I wanted to be a doctor when I was very little and that changed to a speech pathologist for years. Then life got in the way and I "stopped" to have my family .. for a long while .. and here I am!
I had not really seriously considered nursing "out loud" but finally realized that this is a very good fit for all my aptitudes, skills and personality. I would like to go on to get my master's at the very least and possibly teach later on (when I'm all used up and worn out haha j/k). I even have considered becoming a nurse practitioner but time will tell where I make it to. I am taking it like it comes and am just very happy to have come to a decision about my life (FINALLY) work choices. For now I'm just trying to get through the BN! Hey, actually for now I'm just trying to get through the week!! I don't know what area I would like to specialize in/work in so that might have something to do with what direction things take!

:groupwelcome: Great to see you!! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that application for you!! When will you find out?
Hello all you fellow 09ers! I received my acceptance letter two days before Thanksgiving that I am accepted into the UPMC Shadyside School of Nursing diploma program. (I must have posted it a dozen times on different posts!) I start two days after my birthday in February. I'm excited but I'm sooooo nervous because I have heard some terrifying things at allnurses about how nurses "eat their young", how disgusted many are with nursing, how it's such a thankless job, etc, etc. I start my CNA training program on the 19th of Dec and when I was doing the pre-employment screening, I had a chance to talk to a few nurses who love their jobs and say that they love being nurses so I'm more hopeful. My biggest fear is that I will not be able to retain to overwhelming amount of information but I'm going to really work hard at it. Once I finish, I plan to work beside nursing, go back to school for my BSN and then go for my masters and maybe become a CRNA.
I pray that you all are blessed with good grades and good instructors!
Congrats, dorselm! :balloons:
I'm SOOO happy the semester is almost over. I have an assessment practicum exam tomorrow (basically doing a physical assessment on a partner from memory--ugh!) and one more night of clinicals, then finals week. Yippee!! I can't wait for vacation to recharge, maybe clean the house, maybe see a movie. . . I know next semester is gonna be a toughie, so maybe I'll get started on some reading. (Keeping in mind that I always have great intentions and rarely follow through!)
Loving nursing school, even though it's a lot of work, especially now that we're actually working with patients. I'm looking forward to med-surg next semester, even though it means being at the hospital at 6:30 a.m.--and I'm a total night owl, rarely in bed before 1. ARGH!!
How's everyone else doing?

How was everyone's week? Hope it was great! I had a bit of a meltdown yesterday just thinking about what if I am not a good nurse and thinking I can't do my applications similation any better and it seems they still took off a ton of marks (ok so I still got a good mark but just not as good as usual or as good as I would have liked). Ah well!
My review with my clinical instructor went well and she gave me some excellents which we aren't supposed to be getting at this level .. that was in the section more of analyzing my practice, etc. so that was ok.
We did the flu clinic on Thursday, which was really fun and I finally got to give some IM's! There were lots of people going through and they did a large number more than last year. We used the retractable needles which we haven't used in labs so that was interesting and a bit different. Anyway, I really enjoyed it and the people were nice and funny.
Not too much else going on .. I have studying to do this weekend and another Health Assessment similation test next week. Bleah. Thankfully things have slowed down a teeny bit and I can breathe a little easier.
So I'm curious what everyone else has been doing!! Come on, spill your guts about it all!!!! LOL!
Have a great weekend!
