i noticed the thread in the prenursing forum about class of '08 and i did post there but thought maybe i would start a thread specifically for '09 and see who is out there!! (plus it would suck when everyone graduated and left me alone in the post haha) i'm using the same format as that post because it was so good. post your info. here and introduce (or re-introduce) yourself!! it would be great to be able to support one another right to the end!!
name: karen
school: brandon university, canada
program: 4 yr. bachelor of nursing
what area of interest at this time: i am just really open to anything at this point .. so much to learn and i feel that this is just opening up to me and i will figure out where my interest lies.
biggest fear: not sure of that either. i am not sure if i will gag over anything or not. maybe my biggest fear would be looking stupid, but heaven knows i've done enough of that!
what you'd like us to know about you: i'm a mom of 4 (2 boys, 2 girls) and have worked (and still do) as a christian camp director for the past 5 years. i'm really enjoying university again. i graduated back in '85 with a b.ed. the next year i took a stats course and didn't go back until 2005 fall .. so on paper it took me 26 years to complete my pre-reqs haha .. in reality i (mostly) did them all since last fall!
my really neat thing this year is that my oldest daughter is going to be going to university at the same time as me but taking music! that is a very unique opportunity!!
i'm looking forward to talking with you all and helping to encourage you any way i can! :roll
I have this feeling our orientation will be similar. Glad you had some good info. here and there though! GL with the reading ahead!!Had my 2nd orientation day today. Some of it was boring.:trout: But you glean little tidbits of info that are important. Like every semester we'll have to take HESI tests to go with all of our clinical classes. And for major papers, we'll have to send to some website (turnitin.com) to check for plagiarism. I don't know about that.I mean I've spent my time at a small college where they trusted you and graduate school, so doing this seems very foreign to me.
We also got some great stress releiving tips. And lots of information on time management. They had some students come in to explain their techniques. There was one girl who read 2-3 weeks ahead. She would read alot during the first weeks of school, so she can spend the rest of the semester ahead of the readings. I'm going to try it, but I doubt it will last long.

Wanted to stop in and say hi and hope everyone is having a good labour day weekend! Looking at the board is throwing me into a strange panic at the moment so I have to stop reading posts LOL! I have been trying to finish up my self-study unit and that panicked me too!! ARGH deep breaths, deep breaths.
How is everyone doing?
Hey, Karen! Only three more days for you? I understand the anxiety--I had bunches of that, too. I'm doing MUCH better now that I'm actually in school. We have our first math test on conversions and drug calculations on Tuesday, which kind of freaked me out at first, but I'm realizing it's not THAT bad. I do wish, however, that the US used the metric system. It would make my life a whole lot easier right now if I'd been raised with this stuff!
Hope your weekend is good, and enjoy your start back to school. That much closer to actually being a nurse!
Thanks, Lori .. I am gaining a little strength from you!! lol re the metric system. I know I was a kid/teen/can't remember when we made the switch from imperial to metric so I kind of use both and that's confusing too! Maybe I should think of it like I'm "bilingual". GL with the test on Tuesday! Knock 'em dead! You will be great! Still pancking slightly but I am going to switch gears and neaten up the house, although even that seems completely overwhelming (we haven't really unpacked from moving back home from camp!). TTFN! Thanks for the pep talk!Hey, Karen! Only three more days for you? I understand the anxiety--I had bunches of that, too. I'm doing MUCH better now that I'm actually in school. Hey- I know exactly how you feel. I felt that way when I started classes, and still feel it every now and again. Just take a deep breath. I remind myself I can do it and remind myself I'm not the only one who can think I can do it (namely the admissions committee.)
Had my first quiz on Friday. No it wasn't as scary as nursing quizes are supposed to be, though it was a bit foreign to have to read that intensely before a lecture. My first clinical is next Tuesday. We're going to a elderly day care to practice our health assessment skills.
Good luck to everyone.

Thanks for the cheers! I feel sicker than a dog right now so need to get better so I can get my head around all this and sleep and enjoy my first week of orientation! I think everyone is about as nervous as I am so I can somewhat take heart in that .. we will be a huge bundle of nerves on the first day but it will be great to see who all is in the class 'cuz I still don't know.
Thanks for stopping by!
How are ya, people? I had my first 3 days of school -- mostly orientation but some lecture. A lot of it was a tad boring but mostly good. I have a cough which isn't helping and isn't going away but .. oh well. Yesterday we had a Nursing Applications lab and that was at least hands-on.
What is everyone else up to these days?
