i noticed the thread in the prenursing forum about class of '08 and i did post there but thought maybe i would start a thread specifically for '09 and see who is out there!! (plus it would suck when everyone graduated and left me alone in the post haha) i'm using the same format as that post because it was so good. post your info. here and introduce (or re-introduce) yourself!! it would be great to be able to support one another right to the end!!
name: karen
school: brandon university, canada
program: 4 yr. bachelor of nursing
what area of interest at this time: i am just really open to anything at this point .. so much to learn and i feel that this is just opening up to me and i will figure out where my interest lies.
biggest fear: not sure of that either. i am not sure if i will gag over anything or not. maybe my biggest fear would be looking stupid, but heaven knows i've done enough of that!
what you'd like us to know about you: i'm a mom of 4 (2 boys, 2 girls) and have worked (and still do) as a christian camp director for the past 5 years. i'm really enjoying university again. i graduated back in '85 with a b.ed. the next year i took a stats course and didn't go back until 2005 fall .. so on paper it took me 26 years to complete my pre-reqs haha .. in reality i (mostly) did them all since last fall!
my really neat thing this year is that my oldest daughter is going to be going to university at the same time as me but taking music! that is a very unique opportunity!!
i'm looking forward to talking with you all and helping to encourage you any way i can! :roll
Cool you get 2 grads! LOL I am not exactly familiar with the associate's degree but I do hear it talked about a lot on these boards. It seems really confusing at first (to me at least lol) with all the new lingo!Hey there! I posted under the 2008 thread as well, as that is the year I will graduate with my associate's degree, but in 2009 I will grad. with my BSN, so I count as both.I start school on August 23rd, and am very excited!
Good luck to all of you through nursing school, and rock-on class of 2009!!!!!
Uh oh puter problems .. the worst! I did buy one set of scrubs but I want to get at least one more -- ugh, white -- can you believe it?My uniform for school is one the last things on my list. They didn't have them in stock yet the last time I was at the bookstore. Got my books, and think I have enough school stuff (paper, pens, folders, etc.). My schedule is much lighter than yours. It helps that I've already taken all the prereqs and coreqs.Professional Nursing I (Health Assessment)
Professional Nursing I Lab
Psychosocial Nursing Concepts
Now I just have to register later this morning and fix my computer (don't even want to talk about that one.)

Sorry about your registration .. they make us jump through hoops here for these things too and it seems like they are never on the same page as anyone else. I was really angry when I tried to register my daughter in the spring -- then we wound up going about 20 different places, many of them wrong, on the advice of people in various offices, and being told conflicting information .. fortunately we eventually got it straightened out but I swear some of them are just put there to torture us and see if we have enough stamina to sort through their red tape. Ook haha mini vent there, sorry.
Don't bite your nails off waiting!! Do you have any work you can do in preparation? sounds like some interesting course titles. I agree that it's interesting to see the different ways they teach the same things!MY courses for the upcoming semester will beNursing in Society
Nursing informatics
Health assesment across the lifespan
Principles of Nursing pract
Health promotion, teaching, and self care
Clinicals
CO-op 101
im excited i cant wait to start my program. GRRR i start Sept 25th!!! soooo late.
qod: do you have clinicals/ have to wear a uniform this year? if yes, what do you have to wear? what day/days are your clinicals?
my answer: white white white white ... can be pant suit, scrubs or a dress .. and white shoes ... we can wear crocs if we want to but i'm still not sure. our clinicals are set for thursdays and we will have an early shift for part of the term and a late shift for another part of the term. (i think 8 hours)

our scrub top is white, but thanks to the previous classes, we now can wear forest green pants. i've preordered the pants and will pick them up in the first week of classes. the problem is the top. they get this special stripe down the front and we have to sew the school's patch on. i'm waiting for the top to come in at the bookstore.
my clinical is once a week now for 4 hrs in the afternoon. we get to choose our section for clinicals, and mine will be on tuesdays. from what they told us in orientation back in may, we won't start clinical for a couple of weeks. and then we have three different sites for the fall. we get to go to prison, a ltc and a hospital. will find out more next week when classes start.
oh, and my computer problems seem to have worked out with reinstalling the os. oh well, better now than next month.

qod: do you have clinicals/ have to wear a uniform this year? if yes, what do you have to wear? what day/days are your clinicals?we start clinicals the second half of the semester on tuesdays and thursdays and, like you, have to wear white, white, and more white. we have to wear scrubs and a lab coat, and white shoes. we can wear crocs, but i have a pair and my feet love them but my back doesn't. i got dansko pros--supposed to be great for the back. anyway, i'm looking forward to wearing all white. as an overweight person, i'm expecting to look like the big marshmallow guy in ghostbusters. :smackingf
name: dan
school: wayne state university, michigan
program: bsn (3 years undergrad, 3 years program)
what area of interest at this time: i've got my heart set on emergency medicine
biggest fear: not being able to balance time between school and work and still get enough sleep to be fully rested. i know it's not going to happen, but i have a running regiment during the school year that i try and stick to, but it's hard to run 3 miles on 3 hours sleep.
what you'd like us to know about you: i'm only 21, which seems odd on this website. lots of older folks here! i am big into photography and cars. i plan on attending medical school some years down the road so i'm dual majoring in nursing and biochemistry (call me crazy). no kids, not for many more years. i'm an uncle as of two months ago and love spending time with my nephew when i get the chance.

ROTFL! I was thinking I might look like the Pillsbury Dough Girl myself! My summer crocs are comfy too but I am not sure if there is enough arch support in them to be on my feet for a long time .. I am going to go shoe shopping this weekend in the big city I think! A little time away for some R&R with the family .. I still have lots to do in my camp job before school starts and lots of homework also ... ARGH!!I'm expecting to look like the big marshmallow guy in Ghostbusters. :smackingf
