i noticed the thread in the prenursing forum about class of '08 and i did post there but thought maybe i would start a thread specifically for '09 and see who is out there!! (plus it would suck when everyone graduated and left me alone in the post haha) i'm using the same format as that post because it was so good. post your info. here and introduce (or re-introduce) yourself!! it would be great to be able to support one another right to the end!!

program: 4 yr. bachelor of nursing
what area of interest at this time: i am just really open to anything at this point .. so much to learn and i feel that this is just opening up to me and i will figure out where my interest lies.
biggest fear: not sure of that either. i am not sure if i will gag over anything or not. maybe my biggest fear would be looking stupid, but heaven knows i've done enough of that!
what you'd like us to know about you: i'm a mom of 4 (2 boys, 2 girls) and have worked (and still do) as a christian camp director for the past 5 years. i'm really enjoying university again. i graduated back in '85 with a b.ed. the next year i took a stats course and didn't go back until 2005 fall .. so on paper it took me 26 years to complete my pre-reqs haha .. in reality i (mostly) did them all since last fall!
my really neat thing this year is that my oldest daughter is going to be going to university at the same time as me but taking music! that is a very unique opportunity!!
i'm looking forward to talking with you all and helping to encourage you any way i can! :roll

Fears: making a mistake that causes harm to a patient. :S
Something interesting: I have been working in the medical field for over 10 years in various positions. I am also a volunteer with the local search and rescue unit.
December 2009 here I come!!
I reluctantly have to add myself to this group. I was supposed to graduate May 2008. This past semester, I did not study as much as I should have and I got a C- in one of my courses. So I need to repeat the course Fall 2008 and graduate May 2009.
I'll tell you what, I have learned my lesson and will not let this happen again. I was an A student during junior year. This semester just kicked my butt.
So YAY class of 2009!!
It is going to be wierd getting to know a whole new group of students.
Hey again '09 ers! (& a hello welcome new any members )
about fitting in working or whatever else you may have on your plate:
I LIVE by a master calendar. I put all my work tasks, HW assignments, where I have to be when ect.. and it feels great when I check things off. Now I just have to try and "fit in" the gym. :icon_roll
Another thing someone taught me was to be confident in your master calendar so that you can only focus on the task at hand instead of the 4 billion other things on your plate. Oh and I have learned to let dusting, vaccuuming and laundry go a bit longer than usual or until I need my uniform.
Here is to all of us making it to graduation & the pinning ceremony  Mel

It seems that since this is so competitive that everyone wants to discuss everything and comment on all that is happening. I don't want to seem detached and ******...since we're all working together...how do you walk the fine line of too much sharing?

What area of interest at this time: I am trying to remain open but I am leaning toward L&D or OR.
Biggest fear: Failing! This is a huge sacrafice for me and my husband as I won't be working for 13 months.
What you'd like us to know about you: This is my 2nd degree, in my previous life I was/am a CPA. I am married and have two adorable furbabies.
name: kylee
school: lenape school of practical nursing
program: part time practical nursing, class of 2007-2009
what area of interest at this time: l&d, flight nursing biggest fear: failing everything what you'd like us to know about you: i'm anal as all get out. love medicine and law and thought about law school after gaining my bs in communications/journalism, but decided against it. i have wanted to be a nurse since i was 4 years old, but got talked out of pursing after high school. i finally decided that it was time for me to pursue my dream. i will go on and get my rn. i had to go the lpn route first because i had a previous daylight job that coflicted with attending a rn program. i work as a patient care tech for a major hospital full time, and casual with hospice.
I will be starting an Accelerated BSN program also. I start in May and end August of 09. I am SO excited.
I am thinking ICU because I want to become a CRNA, but lately for some reason I have been thinking about L&D.
my biggest fear is failing out of school. I don't think it will happen, but since my husband will be the only one working for the 15 months that I'm in school...I think I'm just adding pressure to myself!
I have a great support system, and I am so excited about starting school! I look forward to swapping stories with everyone on this board and can't wait for graduation! I truly feel like I have finally found my calling and school hasn't even started yet! :)
Best of luck to everyone!

what area of interest at this time: not sure. i'll most likely start off in med/surg to gain experience then figure out what i want to do.
biggest fear: making it this far and not graduating.
what you'd like us to know about you: i'm 23 years old and am expecting my first baby due around august 31, 2008 which falls around the time next semester starts. no big deal if i have to wait a semester to jump back in the program. my baby will be my number one priority, but i am determined more than ever to get this rn degree. i know it will be tough, but i know it's possible to have a baby and finish nursing school.
what got me into nursing: i enjoy helping people and have always been interested in things dealing with medicine. when i was younger i'd spend summers with my grandparents. one year my grandpa had a heart attack and was in the icu for a few weeks. it was interesting seeing what went on there watching the nurses come in and out of the room. then when i was around 12 a doctor let me into the room when he was examining my grandpa's nose and throat. i was able to see them stick a tube down his nose and saw video of what his throat looked like. then med techs took me on tours of the lab.
i am an "older" (46) may bn graduate and i'm just signing in to allnurses for the first time in a while and just wondered how everyone was doing. have you graduated? is it all you had hoped?
i graduated :yelclap: on may 30th, wrote the crne 4 days later and have been working on a medical floor for the past month and a bit in a days/evenings full time permanent position. as expected, it is challenging and we are overworked but i am still liking it. we don't hear about our exam results for another 6.5 weeks .. how ridiculous and nailbiting. the exam could have gone either way for me -- seriously -- but i am resigned to my fate and will write again, if necessary.
just as an atypical, shameless brag, i did manage to graduate with greatest distinction, was my nursing class valedictorian (not of all grads and was elected in a class vote so don't get too excited lol) and got a bronze medal for academic standing in my program. :thankya:
i almost don't know where to go from here. it feels like i have been a student for so long and now, while nice, it is a bit of an identity crisis!! there is still so much to know and so many directions in which i could go.
feel free to message me and catch up and/or just talk!
name: jeremy
school: tennessee state university
program: 2 yr. adn program (currently enrolled into rn-bsn)
what area of interest at this time: eventually critical care (probably like almost all male nurses, lol.). i am going to work med/surg on full-time weekend day shift for one year while i do rn-bsn, because i feel i need to work on my time management and basic skills. afterwards i'm going to try to apply to vanderbilts trauma nursing unit, or maybe here in a critical care unit with hca. then its either: a.) get my master's in education, or b.) do more critical care for a few years, try er or pediatrics and try to land a flight nursing job. and then maybe along the way get my masters in something else. i just dont think i wanna do practitioning anymore and limit myself to certain areas.
biggest fear: crashing and burning during my first year!!! :uhoh21: already on second week of orientation for a med/surg unit, and the paperwork and documentation is overwhelming. the people are really nice, and the groups are set up in teams as opposed to one nurse is responsible for so and so and another is for another group of patients. so i really like that concept... it fosters and promotes teamwork! i know i'll always have suport and backup if i really need it... which i will, lol. crazy thing is that i'm not even worried about the patient care aspect... im worried about not completeing documentation and getting all of that done on time! like im afraid i'll forget to look for an order or something and wont get a med to a patient because of it.
what you'd like us to know about you: i'm a 25 year old guy who is sarcastic and was the class clown in hs and in nursing school. i look foward to being able to carry my personality into the nursing field and provide patient comfort with it. hopefully i'll eventually find a field that i'm made for. i know there are drawbacks to every field, but one day i want to find the one that i love even despite these drawbacks. everything is what you make out of it, and there is always opportunity to learn and grow everyday!
i take my boards somtime before the end of july. shuttin it off at 75
