Any ADN-BSN programs without ridiculous papers?

Taking my 1st ADN-BSN class. Thinking of dropping it with only 1 week left.

1st class and already a 6 to 8 page paper. A concept analysis of 1 of the following 4 words: Caring, Hope, Trust, or Fear.

This is absolutely ridiculous. I have absolutely no idea what to say.

The structure of these programs MUST change.

I don't want to write papers every 5 weeks. I want to read a book and take a test.

I agree with the OP.Writing a 8 pg paper on the word fear will not make me a better nurse in my opinion.I'm set to begin working on my BSN next spring and am not looking forward to the papers ,BUT I have a game plan. I'll take it one day at a time and the wall can listen to me whine all day long, but I will finish my degree.Don't give up just yet!

I don't think I would want to attend a program that doesn't call for paper writing. It builds character and allows you to grow professionally and academically. There are no shortcuts. And even if there were, you pay for it somehow before it's all said and done. I know you have other degrees, but none of them are in nursing. And I don't know of any reputable nursing programs that allows for students to forgo such an important part of the learning process.

I would look at it as a bonus. Easy A for doing very little work. I can write a 6-8 page paper full of BS on anything, even a single word, and do it in very little time. Enjoy the gift you've been given, even if it seems useless to you.

I don't see how you could have completed a BS and/or MBA without writing papers. It takes great skill to expand on a word enough to pull several pages out of it. It's not stupid.

That isn't bad at all.

And I'm curious as well how you've gotten so far without writing papers. In my English 101 class I must have written at least 6 papers, one being 5+ pages. Needless to say my 2 other English classes and 3 psychology classes weren't much better.

Just do it. No regrets.

You cannot go through a bachelor's program without writing papers. That's just the fact. While associates is concentrated on technical/clinical skills, bachelor's degree is geared in theoretic and education.

Papers aren't just to burden you. It's to expand your way of thinking, adapting different arguments to strengthen your position. It's not ridiculous. You have to be able to communicate your thoughts in the academic/professional setting.

Six to eight pages (if you are writing in APA format) is roughly 2000 words. That's nothing. You have an introduction, statement of the facts, arguments, multiple resources and you are at 2000 words before you know it.

In any case, you are right... BSN is not for you if your way of thinking is this way (nor any higher education for that matter).

A 6-8 page paper? That's all?! Not 15-20? Consider yourself lucky!

I agree.

It could be worse.... I am in a traditional BSN program right now. During this summer we take Community Health and we have a paper that will be due that will be about 20-30 pages. Many of the classes in a BSN program are writing intensive.

Granted, writing a paper about a single word would be challenging but remember that nothing worth having comes easy.

Topics such as caring, hope, trust, and fear are central to nursing practice. These are so complex - it easy for me to imagine writing a 50 page paper on one of these topics. I'd look deeper and be grateful you have an assignment with so much flexibility.

What school are you going to that wants a 6-8 page essay on a word? just curious.

Ya I feel you. I got dumber doing my BSN program at a local state U. The papers were stupid, the level of discourse was pathetic, the learning non-exsistant. You will get many apologists here for the BSN. Most of them have never studied any other field and have no idea how abserd the BSN is. Many will accuse you of being anti education if you recognize the weakness inherent on BSN programs. As far as I am concered the the BSN, as they are now, are a waste of time and resourses.

No way I would have done it except it was free and I got to write most of my papers on paid time.
