I recently had a person look me up on LinkedIn and offer me a job in my old profession. I had interviewed with him years ago and turned down the position...but he thought maybe I might reconsider.
Other than that though...I don't really use it for anything and I have had it for about 4 years.
I'm on LinkedIn and have tried to use it to make connections as a new grad...but to no avail. I thought it would be a great idea to connect with nurse managers and see if I can get some advice or job leads. Thus far, no managers have connected with me.
But it doesn't hurt to have your resume up there.
I receive messages in my LinkedIn inbox from recruiters at least twice a month for jobs listings in various nursing specialties. I do not have a formal resume uploaded, but I do have my education and work history, my particular passions within the field of nursing, and my picture. It helps to join groups, and there are lots of them out there for nurses.
Of note, I have tried to find my old instructors and nurse managers with whom I was close; but, to my surprise, they don't seem to be on there.
I have been on LinkedIn for about two years now and consistently get contacts from recruiters and other professionals. Make sure that you join appropriate groups and take advantage of open networkers who will connect with anyone to share their network. If you don't take advantage of what LinkedIn has to offer, things aren't going to just come to you.

Someone was telling me about this site called LinkedIn where you make business connections through people you know. I was just curious if anyone out there has actually found a job this way. It seems kind of silly to me because you just add your friends and hope one of them knows someone that might be of interest to you. Just curious if this might be a good way to look for a job....I saw a bunch of nurse recruiters on there, but what's the point...I don't know them
.....Just curious.
