A vapid person too.

This shouldn't be a thing.

American society is such a joke.

I wish people would stop using the word "vaccine" when referring to Covid. For 225 yrs the definition of a vaccine was "a product that stimulates a person's immune system to produce an immunity to a specific disease, protecting the person from the disease." Covid comes along and the CDC wants to use the word "vaccine" even though the shot does not provide immunity from the disease. The use of the word "vaccine" gives the public the impression that getting the Covid shot will prevent them from getting Covid. Once it was determined that it didn't prevent you from getting Covid and you need to get 4-5 booster shots to get any kind of protection, the CDC changed the definition of "Vaccine" to "a preparation that is used to stimulate the body's immune response against a disease." They leave out the part of the definition relating to immunity from the disease. By that definition, Zinc, Vitamin D, Vitamin C are all vaccines. They don't prevent you from getting the Cold virus, but stimulate your immune response to fight against the Cold virus.

Oh boy. The covid vaccines code specific proteins that produce antibodies to covid. Giving your body a taste of a pathogen to produce antibodies to that pathogen is the basic principle of how vaccines work. That didn't change here. Zinc does not do that. Zinc is not a vaccine. Vitamin D or C does not do that. They are not vaccines.

No vaccine in this world is 100% effective. It reduces the risk of an infection turning into a disease or reduces the risk of serious illness or death if it becomes a disease. Despite the bad information you received, the first vaccine was effective at doing this. There are worldwide studies that are easily searchable if you have doubts.

It's always strange to me when anti-vaxxers are nurses. Why choose a field based on science if you don't believe in it? Or maybe they believe in science but don't take the time before forming their opinions to learn how to analyze evidence. It's fascinating to me when people ignore large trials, expert opinions, society consensus statements, and guidelines but cling to every word a random dude who published a paper in a fly-by-night journal writes or a random "expert" on facebook.

I don't think it's just America, though.

We need more vigorious science courses in nursing.  They aren't separating the wheat from the chaff.

More science courses aren't need in my opinion.  We just need to pay attention to the science, which as we learn isn't always exact, doesn't have all the answers, and changes as scientific research comes out with more information,  and not "I've done my research.....on TikTok, Google, and YouTube".

I didn't say more courses - just more vigorous courses, especially in interpreting scientific research as part of the sciences.

I dream of a time when people can have their own opinions and even if they diametrically oppose one's own beliefs, we can just be respectful and live our own lives without hate and internet shaming.

It seems that science deniers and pot stirrers experience little sense of shame.

What are opinions worth that "diametrically oppose one's one beliefs"?

Are you saying then that BCG is not a vaccine? It is given worldwide to prevent TB disease, especially miliary and meningeal TB in children. Depending on locale, it is 50-80% effective in preventing TB disease. It does not necessarily prevent TB infection, but it does seem to decrease the incidence of active TB disease.

What is your point? BCG prevents TB, it is a vaccine. BCG protection lasts for up to 15 years. COVID-19 protection was very limited (2-3 months) and it does not prevent you from getting COVID. What is your definition of the time limit that a preparation needs to protect you to be considered a vaccine (old CDC definition, not new)?

My point is that for 225 years the preparations used as a vaccine were accurate to the CDC definition. COVID comes along and the "vaccine" does not perform as a vaccine (doesn't provide immunity or prevention), so they change the definition to fit their need.

BCG does not prevent infection. It provides protection from TB infection progressing to TB disease in children.
