And you thought a thong beneath whites was bad...

A girl in my class has several surface piercings. If you don't know what that is exactly, it's when the piercer takes a stud - much like the ones used in ears, but instead of an earring back it has a little flat disc welded onto it - and makes a tiny cut in the skin, inserts the stud and voila! It looks like a diamond (cubic zirconia) is sitting on the surface of your skin - kind of like the little sparkly stud nose rings.

Anyway, a girl in my class has one of these piercings RIGHT ABOVE HER BUTT CRACK! No lie. She also insists on folding over the top band of her scrubs "to make them fit better", which shorten the top part of the scrubs which makes her butt - and her piercing - show every time she bends over. Once, a patient got a real good long look too. And the nurses at the nursing home won't even talk to her because she offended so many of the residents. Our instructor has talked to her about her pants but she still hasn't done anything about it!

I just think it's funny...and slightly annoying. I have tattoos on my arms. I ALWAYS wear a long sleeved short so that they're not showing. I also take my nose ring out before clinical. This is our school policy. It's kind of annoying that I go to such lengths to follow policy and she keeps flashing her butt to people without consequence.

So...hot pink/red/blue/polka dotted thongs beneath whites are NOT the worst thing in the world lol. I think the only thing worse than a diamond above your butt crack would be a tramp stamp LMAO.

Ummmm...I have a tramp stamp. :) But it is the Chinese symbol for family, so does that make it less trampy???

Not really, lol. :p

Ha, oh good god. Whale tale with some bling!

Yeah, I'm seriously considering telling my instructor about it. I get flack ALL the time because of my tattoos (NONE of which are in the least bit in bad taste) and I cover them up to the best of my ability - the one on my wrist shows occasionally due to handwashing issues. And I'm sick of listening to various patients/staff at my clinical sites complaining about her...it would be different if she tried to cover it and it showed thru pants or something...but it's like she enjoys showing it! And I don't mind reprisals from her - she's one of those types who brags about how she's smart enough to become a MD/Surgeon/Chemist but chose the nursing field because she thought she'd be great for patients LOL.

ChinacatSN, is the instructor who is giving you grief about your tattoos the same one who is wimping out on ensuring this student follow policy? That doesn't seem fair.

If I was your instructor, I would want to know if a student was offending residents. However, you may not be the best person to do this as it might be construed as tattling. Maybe one of the staff would talk to your instructor.

Okay, first...GROSS. I'm only 23 and i find this odd and disturbing, so it's not an age thing! ;)

I know no one wants to be a tattle tale and worry about how it will come off, do it from the position of "I just wanted to relay what the patient said/complained about". If it doesn't come off as 'I want her to cover it cause I had to cover my tattoo' I think it will be better received and no one will EVER fault you for wanting the butt-diamond girl to cover up for you AND your patients! :)

Yeah...you're probably right, especially since I have tattoos - it might just look like I'm upset about things being "unfair" and I might look childish and unprofessional.

Next time I hear a staff member complaining, I will mention that they should speak to the instructor. I seriously doubt that our instructor would blow off staff members - she'd (instructor) commit murder if it would help us keep our clinical sites happy!

If she likes being great for her pt's in that way I'm thinking she got into the wrong profession. Maybe she got real nursing confused with dressing up as a nurse to "take care" of her clients. :lol2:

On a serious note, very unprofessional she should be kicked out if she has already been warned. That would be the first day of class at my school.

She wouldn't have it there if she didn't enjoy showing it off. She's an attention seeker. A "look at me" type of person. She wants to show off.. just like 'tramp stamps'... most people put those things in that area of the body because they think it's sexy and generally want to show it off. (off the hip pants, g-string bathing suits, etc...)

I honestly don't care what people do to their own bodies.. HOWEVER... it's simply inappropriate for her to show off her body art in a work environment.. (unless she's working at a tattoo shop or 'hipster' type joint)

If she feels the need for that kind of attention at work, perhaps she should be working on a pole.

Throw a coin down there. Perhaps that will stop things :)

OMIGOSH! I can't believe someone would be flaunting that off! Especially being on their buttcrack..that sounds like a high class hillbilly to me. Seriously though, being a nursing student she should know that is a bad spot for a potential infection and she totally should be warned and failed if she doesn't comply to covering it up. That is really unprofessional and if she were employed- I wouldn't be surprised to see her get written up or possibly fired if she did not comply. That being her personal property, visible for everyone and anyone to see, it will really make her look bad. YUK! Things like this are cool to flaunt in your personal time (at a club or parties I guess), but not in the professional work environment. AMEN
