And you thought a thong beneath whites was bad...

Nursing Students General Students

A girl in my class has several surface piercings. If you don't know what that is exactly, it's when the piercer takes a stud - much like the ones used in ears, but instead of an earring back it has a little flat disc welded onto it - and makes a tiny cut in the skin, inserts the stud and voila! It looks like a diamond (cubic zirconia) is sitting on the surface of your skin - kind of like the little sparkly stud nose rings.

Anyway, a girl in my class has one of these piercings RIGHT ABOVE HER BUTT CRACK! No lie. She also insists on folding over the top band of her scrubs "to make them fit better", which shorten the top part of the scrubs which makes her butt - and her piercing - show every time she bends over. Once, a patient got a real good long look too. And the nurses at the nursing home won't even talk to her because she offended so many of the residents. Our instructor has talked to her about her pants but she still hasn't done anything about it!

I just think it's funny...and slightly annoying. I have tattoos on my arms. I ALWAYS wear a long sleeved short so that they're not showing. I also take my nose ring out before clinical. This is our school policy. It's kind of annoying that I go to such lengths to follow policy and she keeps flashing her butt to people without consequence.

So...hot pink/red/blue/polka dotted thongs beneath whites are NOT the worst thing in the world lol. I think the only thing worse than a diamond above your butt crack would be a tramp stamp LMAO.

I hate to say this but I think you did what you could. If your instructor isn't seeing this, either the student is REALLY good in terms of hiding or the instructor needs to brush up on her observational skills. If I was the instructor, I would be watching this student like a hawk. I would not encourage a student to "snitch" on another, but if a student told me that another student was flagrantly violating policy and bragging about it, I'd follow up.

You might have to let this one go. Eventually Diamond Butt is going to get noticed by someone who will call her on the carpet for her behavior. Might not be this instructor. Might be the next instructor or an employer.

At least I certainly hope someone does something about this. It's unprofessional, and, as you said in another post, it's potentially hazardous to a patient.

You do realize that the next time I have a clinical group, I'm probably going to be doing thong checks as well as looking for visible piercings in areas that shouldn't be visible in a clinical setting. I shall forever be known as Moogie the Weird. I do thank you for starting this thread because, although we've all had a couple of laughs at this idea, many instructors would not even know to look for a visible backside piercing.

You're welcome! Another tip - there are also students (usually the females) who wear their scrubs just a little too snug. It's not really noticeable when they're standing upright, but when they sit or bend, half of their butt pops out. Usually these are the girls who wear their street clothes a little too tight and think they're a size or two smaller than they actually are. Luckily, my instructor noticed this right away and now our scrubs need to be slightly baggy - still doesn't prevent butt-diamond from rolling down her waistband but whatever.

Thanks for all the advice! It's nice to know that an actual clinical instructor has my same beliefs on the subject and that I'm not the only one who's offended by this.

What planet is any instructor on that they would forget about "Diamond BUTT girl . . ." How does something like that slip your mind? Especially when it appears there is a widespread state of unrest sweeping through the facility?

I got written up because my hair fell out of the clips one day! I actually saw the little itty-bitty printing "hair fell down" :-/
