Just had my first day on orientation Monday. The preceptor was great, very nice, knew her stuff. She made me feel really comfortable. Even the supervisor was helpful. She gave me some great tips (some of which other AL users already suggested to us newbies when getting ourselves started in LTC :yeah:) So, I went home got my stuff ready for Wednesday all was good until I went to bed. I had nightmares that I was on the floor doing THE SLOWEST possible med pass known to man kind! People were yelling at me and I just panicked, I did not know what to do! Very scary. However I will not let a dream deter me from being the best that I can possibly be. I have seven more days on orientation, the next two on days then I finish off for the shift I will be working which is 3-11.

Has anyone else had this experience and this is "normal" or are my nerves just getting the best of me? :D Thanks in advance for your stories/ replies/ advice!

I've been a nurse since 1982, haven't done a med pass in years since I'm upper management, and I still have nightmares abot a slow med pass. Mine usually involve chasing the resident around a baseball diamond.

Don't let it get to you.

Unfortunately nightmares about the job are very common in nursing, just ask your coworkers and you'll soon find your not alone. No doubt its the result of the ridiculous amount of stress and overload we face on a daily basis!

Oh my...I also still have nightmares about nursing suff- especially being in the ER and not being able to find things or crazy stuff like things stuck to the wall (BP and O2) and not being able to get them loose!

Uh oh....I'm just a student and I'm already having med pass dreams...that and parasites(I'm also in Microbiology)

Whenever I've been overwhelmed at work, I had this recurrent dream about being on a boat out in the middle of the ocean and getting swamped by enormous waves. I've been a nurse for almost fifteen years and I STILL have that dream once in awhile! Welcome to our world :nurse:

I still have dreams (just 18 months into nursing) that I get to the end of the day and realize I never gave a patient ANY meds for the whole day. This dream was started not by my mistake but by someone elses. But somehow I still dread "missing" one patient. I still don't understand how that could have happened, but apparently some part of my brain does since I dream about it.

It is amazing what stress does to the mind during sleep....

Don't forget all the alarms and bells that you hear in your dreams.

Common experience. When you finally do make a mistake (you are human after all) you will relive it over and over in your head.

I feel that someone who worries about doing the best job is the one I want for MY nurse.
