ANC Nov Board & M5 ID

Published

I wanted to start a thread for all of the people who are waiting for the November ANC selection board, specifically if you have/waiting on the M5 identifier for Emergency Nursing. I thought we could suffer together and update each other while we wait. You are welcome to post if you have another specialty or none at all.

My status:

I have submitted all documents, and waiting on M5 identifier approval, physical approval and for the packet to make it past QA.

Met with my recruiter again today -- had to sign my DA 61 again because of one typo on the last version. Arrgh. LOL. Oh well ... it's done! I asked about my M5, and she said she got tired of a) going through her chain of command, and b) "not rushing" the person doing it. She spoke directly with the person who will be doing my CV review, and as she suspected, he knew nothing about my CV. Haha. So he told her to resubmit, no problem, and he'd get right to it. At this point I am overqualified for M5!! LOL

Still in limbo, but perhaps seeing a light? :D My packet is ready -- it's been through 3 levels of QA.

Despite quoting AR 140-10 to my recruiter, my Commander, and the civilian processing my Conditional Release, I haven't gotten anywhere and feel that because I'm rocking the boat so to speak I am only impeding my progress and potential submission to the board in Nov. I can't even begin to express how ticked off I am. My unit has me filling out paperwork that the Regs specifically state are for the Army National Guard. Are you kidding me?!?! I guess they're hoping that I can't read and will just go with the flow. If I don't make it to the boards in November I think all of you will hear my voice all over the world!!! LOL!!!

Has anyone else been in the Reserves and switched to Active Duty? If so, please fill me in on the process that you entailed. I would love to compare.

Had no problem. The 1st O5 in my command signed the 368 without any problems. He just asked why I want to go on active. He also wrote a letter of recommendation for me. Sounds like your command is looking out for their own interest instead of their soldier.

The same happened with me as JeckRN. The first O6 in my command signed, I had the document 2 days later. Keep working the issue. I am sorry this is not working out as you planned.

I still have not heard from my recruiter about the status of my packet, or my physical. I was supposed to hera back this week. I am glad I did not hold my breath. Maybe I will get news next week.

To LunahRN,

You said your packet is ready, did u already sign ur packet through the computer? I don't know if the same for 66H. I was supposed to meet with my recruiter the other day to sign my packet through the computer, but he left me a voicemail and said that my packet is not ready.:crying2: I just don't know why..Anyway, if I'm not selected to this coming board, that's okay, but I will be sad. I already have plan B. I am transferring from med-surg to CVICU. I will start on Monday at CVICU. Once I get my required hours to be an ICU nurse in the army, I will re-apply. I understand that the Army is very competitive. Good luck for everyone waiting.:)

Yep, I signed it through the computer. Twice! :)

Good news, I signed my packet today! So it is finally done. I think I am waiting on my PRK documentation to be reviewed. Hopefully that will be before the end of the month. That is a ton of stress off my shoulders. Hopefully it will be smooth sailing until the board meets...

I am going to be graduating in May 2011 with my BSN and am currently in the process of finishing up my package. I am actually suppose to meet with my recruiter to sign it today. He told me they were taking about 50 new nurses...Is that false information or different from what everyone else is hearing?

I am also going to the boards on November 16th...

Congratulations on pending graduation! I know you are waiting for the day to come.

Hmmm about the 50 new nurses. I am not sure, that number sounds a little low to me, but I do not have any information or a solid number. I do know that it has become more competitive to come into the military straight out of nursing school, as well as, as an experienced RN due to the recent changes in the economy. Through more that one source(including my recruiters) I have heard that the Army has shifted focus from nurse generalists (66H) to the nurses with specialty training in the areas of OR,ER, L&D,Public Health, and Psych.

The board in Nov is the only Active Duty selection board for FY 2011, and I think the board is also considering the applicants to the Enlisted Commissioning program. With that being said, the 50 nurses may be 50 new grads, or it may be 50 med surg generalists. I find it unlikely that the total number of nurses the army is taking this year is 50, but it may be 50 in one of those specific categories.

This is just my speculation on the matter.

hi, everyone, long-time-no-post!! i could not get my account to reactivate for some time! anyway, the last few weeks i also had trouble getting my skills sheet and my specialty recommendation filled out (long story short my nurse manager kept putting me off). it is finally done. my packet is thus finally done except for maybe meps... my recruiter is still looking for my original...

ok... here is my question: i talked to my recruiter about signing my cv or packet electronically and was told that there is no need and that i will sign my contract when i am accepted. from what i read here that does not seem correct.

initially i thought it might be the case since i am graduating in december and the rest of you have already competed your bsns. however, now there is a student nurse who posted that does not have a license or experience and is going to sign a packet. i will call my recruiter again tomorrow but i want someone to tell me what exactly you signed electronically? plus, is the electronic signature necessary to go to boards? my recruiter is new but hard working so i want to provide as much information as i can to reduce any confusion and to expedite this process. thanks.

by the way, i am still positive about going to november boards but i do have my concerns since it is so close to the deadline. why can there not be a december boards too???

I completely understand. I too am feeling a sense of urgency since the deadline is quickly approaching. I spoke to my recruiter today because I have yet to put my electronic signature on my packet. He informed me that the deadline for packet submission is Nov. 2 and that he has a couple more things to "tweek." One of my LORs got lost in the mail and was sent back to my "recommender" and she had to fax it to him but he still needs the original. That got me a little nervous but he ensured me that everything still will be submitted in a timely manner for november boards. I'm not sure if this info helps any but you still have a little more time.

yes, a little. i feel a less alone!!! especially the tweaking part and the losing-a-document part!!! on a positive note, this process has helped me to accept that it is necessary to carry copies of all legal documents on my person (or spouse’s person) throughout the entire entry into the army process. plus, once in, we need to make sure we have a copy of just about everything because stuff gets misplaced and lost a lot. :p

-i still love the army.

I signed a form called a DA 61, which seemed to be kind of a summary of my commission-seeking efforts -- there were about 4 to 6 pages to it, and it showed my schooling, my desire to commission active duty, etc. Sorry, I haven't had coffee yet and just worked a horrible shift yesterday/last night, so I'm not coherent yet. LOL. In any case, my recruiter had a special stylus/pad that plugged into her computer, and I signed the DA 61 electronically.
