I wanted to start a thread for all of the people who are waiting for the November ANC selection board, specifically if you have/waiting on the M5 identifier for Emergency Nursing. I thought we could suffer together and update each other while we wait. You are welcome to post if you have another specialty or none at all.
My status:
I have submitted all documents, and waiting on M5 identifier approval, physical approval and for the packet to make it past QA.
If I don't hurry up and get my M5 identifier, there will be one less competitor swimming in the pool.LOL
It's probably already approved and floating on someone's desk... I'm sure it's all going to come together and you'll get approved for commission!!! Like I said, we're all going to end up meeting up at some school and laugh about this year plus torture we all have gone through!!!
Shirley Temple's are on me!
L So after our chatter is over all of a sudden the requests begin!! Now I have to request official transcripts, which I thought he already had and a copy of my nursing license, which I know is in my last packet - uhhhgggg. Oh well, I guess it could be worse...I could be at OBLC in the field when these requests came up!!! At least I know he's working on my packet and making sure that all is good to go before November and that he's looking ahead at the possibilities.
Arghhh! If all we had to do was wait that would be ok, but the constant re doing, adding, and thoughts of how to ferret out information, make us wonder if we have done all that we can, or are we going to wait until next year because we did not submit a document or for a clerical mistake?
Secondary reaction, Hmmm? Maybe your recruiter requested the additional transcripts so that the board could not find anything to nit pick over like you said. You had to re do you letters of reference, so getting the transcripts does not seem out of the ordinary. Hopefully, it is a just in case because you will be in school when the board meets, one less thing for you to worry about. In this last month before the board, the recruiters are trying to do a final check of everyone that they are sending up so that nothing falls through the cracks.
Hopefully you're right!!! And hopefully we're all putting more into this than is necessary. We're qualified and have the documents to prove it. I'm the only M5 in my region going to the board. I know this is nationally, but the Army is world wide...Right?!?!? Just some inter convincing chatter!!! LOL!!!
BTW....Shirley Temples, Margaritas, Beer, Soda, what have you...definitely needed!!!!
Alas when I thought it was all smooth sailing, approval of my physical has been delayed because of my vision correction surgery. I have to send in additional documentation. The funny part is this surgery was done while on Active Duty, at an Army Hospital, by an Army MD. I was cleared to return to duty, and deployed for a whole year afterward, and have had no need for subsequent vision exams since the procedure. This really confuses me.
If I was ok for duty then, I should be ok for duty now. I know they just want to be sure, but geez. Has any one else had vision correction surgery (PRK or other non-flap generating types)? Were you ultimately cleared for duty, or was this a major stopping point for you?
trauma, it depends.. are you applying and still have a military affiliation ie reserves or irr or ? There are different physical standards and guidelines for retention vs access of new recruits... that being said if you are affiliated when was your last physical? Might have been overlooked whether you actually 'needed' a physical or they were just going through the motions...

I had a very small break in service (6months in 2007), but I have been in a Reserve unit since 2008. I have had 2 physicals since being in this TPU, and have had and passed 2 vision screenings since then, and have not had any problems. The thing is I know I have not had a complete vision screening since the surgery, because no one said it was necessary because I had 20/20 vision, and no complaints. So to make a long story short I fond the notes I had from the procedure, and I went out today and had a complete vision exam, submitted the documents for review and I am hoping for the best.
I wonder did they review the entire physical and give all of the comments, or did they stop as soon as they saw one thing wrong? I submitted my physical at the beginning of September and I am just getting feedback now a month later. I am just worried that I will run out of time to submit documents.
I think I see a new grey hair.

i know what you mean....!!! hang in there... maybe all of this submission and resubmission and whatever are just overkill? someone tell me that this is how the army works!!!! especially since so many of us on this thread were finished with our packets and now we are being called for this or that so close to the deadline. :barf01:
Not to be an emotional basket case on such an open forum, but the past two days have been absolutely HORRIBLE.
My Dad has just been turned down for a heart transplant and is being sent home from the Cleveland Clinic to basically die. Then after I get done talking to my Dad I get an email from the strength management civilian about my 368. He sends me a boat load of paperwork that needs to be filled out as well as another letter explaining why I desire to switch from Reserves to Active. Needless to say, I wasn't able to intelligently fill anything out yesterday. So I started to fill it out today. After reading all of it and the regulations it just didn't make sense to me. So I called my recruiter who reiterated that the 368 was the only thing I needed at this time. So I called this Strength Management guy who informs me that I will not get any approval for my conditional release for at least 90 days... NINETY DAYS...WTH?!?! I read him the regulation and explain to him that none of what he was telling me had to get done was part of the regulation process. I also explained to him that my recruiter said... and then the interruptions started... "Do not listen to your recruiter. He's only trying to rush this because you're just another number. He has no idea what he's doing. You will not be going to the boards in Nov and that's just the way it is."
So you guys may be down one less candidate that boards with you. I'm so emotionally spent since I got the news about my Dad that I can't even think straight. I've been going over and over the regulations and I still can't figure out where he's coming up with his process. It seems to me that my unit has designed their own way of processing their conditional releases and maybe they've gotten approval from higher up to do so. I'm at a loss...and probably have literally lost my spot for a FY11 Active duty slot.....

I am so sorry to hear about your father. You have my prayers that you and your family will enjoy the times that you share together.
I am enlisted in the Reserve, so my situation is not the same, but I can always say there is a way around everything. Last year when I initially thought about submitting my packet, my command said that in order to get a 368(Conditional Release) signed it had to be signed by the first BG in my command because I had not completed my 8 yr MSO(minimum service obligation that EVERYONE incurs when joining ANY branch) they were saying I had to write a memo, send up all of this extra stuff too. Well I chose to wait because I did not have enough ER time to qualify for the M5 ASI. So this year when I go to submit the packet, that rumor has changed, it could now be signed by the first O6 in my COC(who happens to be Hosp. Commander). I have been a good soldier, done what I was supposed to do, have good NCOER's,... my form was signed in a week.
So if this man is right, there is a potential way around it if your chain of command is not supporting you in choosing to go active. You could get the M5 ASI, volunteer to fill a backfill position, and then try to get the 368 signed while you are on an active assignment. I think your chain of command would be different, and if you do a good job the first 2-3 months(make yourself a shining star) that would help your case. That is a rather convoluted suggestion, but I have seen it work from the enlisted side of the house.
I would suggest sending a PM to jeckRN or Athena 55 maybe they can give better advice. Don't give up!
