ANC Nov Board & M5 ID

Specialties Government

Published

I wanted to start a thread for all of the people who are waiting for the November ANC selection board, specifically if you have/waiting on the M5 identifier for Emergency Nursing. I thought we could suffer together and update each other while we wait. You are welcome to post if you have another specialty or none at all.

My status:

I have submitted all documents, and waiting on M5 identifier approval, physical approval and for the packet to make it past QA.

I am also waiting for November board, but just regular med-surg. I got all my paper works turned in and passed my physical test. My recruiter called me the other day to asked me more information. He is in the process to make sure my informations are correct and completed then send my packet. Waiting game:idea:

Since you are in the Reserves you need to go to "my record" at the HRC website and get your point capture (arpc 249-2) under retirment. This will have your total points in the Army. If you served in another service then you will need this along with your DD214. This can be done thru AKO under self service, "my personal" then click on "gateway to HRC"or the HRC website.

When you go to finance to get this straight take all info you have even if it is a duplicate of information listed else where.

Thanks for the FYI, I had already pulled it, but good to post to others who may be in the reserve. Also needless to say when I transition from Reserves I will have a "final copy" to keep till retirement. We know how things love to get lost.:uhoh3:

True, always good to have a copy of your own. Once you go on active you will have 2 records that you can pull up from the HRC web site. You will have a active & reserve record which will have the same documents but different front page.

ok, more updated information about self and army.

self: i have a few things that need to be submitted and i had to resubmit for my application. apparently i filled out an old application in the past and they needed more information. also meps is done differently now so i might have to redo it (my current one is not out of date yet so they are not sure.) anyone else having to add information or redo stuff? on a more positive note, apparently i am 1 of 2 in my state that is qualified to go to november boards! so i am going to continue to think positively especially when i feel like i am going to puke in my mouth at any moment! :D

army: apparently there are lots of new grads walking off of the streets wanting to join the army (i do not blame them). the army is only looking for experienced nurses in m5 and med surg for the upcoming boards. thus, unless they have already signed some commitment or contract, they are not going to november boards. also, this may be the only boards for this year (f11)!

another positive thought: when i finally earn my commission for the army and i have one of those bad days that is typical of any job or military service, i will be sure to think back on moments like these and recall how many hoops i had to jump to join the army as m5 (like obtaining a job out of the area to gain emergency room experience), how long it took me (1 year and counting since starting the application process), and how bad i really wanted it (refer to feelings of wanting to puke in my mouth at any moment now that i have to get more stuff in and there is only one boards meeting), so that i remain motivated!

stay motivated, everyone!

I had to fill out a new app also. I think it changed in FY 09.

I did not have to go to MEPS since I am in the Reserve, but I did have to redo the entire Commissioning Physical. It seems as if the one I did last year was lost at the clinic some how. :(

I think the influx of New Grads ismostly due to the economy. I am hearing a lot of new grads say that it is difficult for them to find a job.

I heard that they are looking for all of the specialties(ER, ICU, OB, Psych, Pub Health)

I heard this is the onlyActive Duty board as well. You could always submit for the Reserve if you do not get in on the Active side, but then you would have to reboard next year to try for an Active Duty slot.

I will think back on it too and count my blessings. What state are you in with only 2 applicants? I need to move :lol2:

Apparently my M5 was approved a while ago and I missed it somewhere in translation with my recruiter! Don't know how that happened, but thankful that it's one less thing I have to worry about. Went to the AFB to get some more uniforms for OBLC and then to the BX with my husband. It was like we were coming full circle and it felt really good! He hasn't been on a base since we got out of the Army 12 years ago. I didn't think he would really care, but he said it felt good being around people in uniform. Made us even more anxious about the boards and hopeful that I get approved.

I'm so glad that I found this forum and have had the opportunity to see that I'm not the only one feeling so much angst about the boarding process! I just hope that in the end we all end up achieving our ultimate goad and will eventually get to see one another in uniform some day!! Good luck to all of you!!

lol! well, my former recruiter said nothing about it!!! my new recruiter almost laughed as we went over it over the phone. i was not made to fill out the whole thing again. i just had to add information that was missing and redo sections on the new application that was more detailed. for instance, there is a terrorist section now, which makes sense! plus, i did not have a section where i could pick out my choices of duty stations, so now i choose them. my new recruiter was very helpful. we looked up places i had questions about and discussed rumors and concerns. it was a very good conversation.

i did not have to go to meps since i am in the reserve, but i did have to redo the entire commissioning physical.

i might not have to either... i went through the commissioning physical since i live in the boondocks away from civilization and the nearest meps facility. i should know by next week if i have to go the meps route. by the way, even when i go to boards in november i won't be offered a commission until i graduate in december, so my application is not in the same hurry, as everyone else.

i heard that they are looking for all of the specialties(er, icu, ob, psych, pub health)...

this may be true, but my recruiter only has two nurses who qualify for boards. we two represent er and med surg so my recruiter is only preparing packages for er and med surg. ;)

i heard this is the onlyactive duty board as well. you could always submit for the reserve if you do not get in on

the active side, but then you would have to reboard next year to try for an active duty slot.

true, but that is too much of a hassle. besides, i initially was going to do this last year with med surg but i was advised against it by my reserve recruiter. his advise was re-enforced by the officers on this forum.

one army nurse literally explained how much of a fight it was for him to get the identifier he wanted, to get other things he requested, and to transfer over. another nurse explained that she knew of nurses who had to repay their bonuses etc. back because the reserves is a separate branch of the military and the contract was broken when that nurse transferred over. so no, i won't be taking that route. i will continue to move forward with active duty nursing.

i will think back on it too and count my blessings. what state are you in with only 2 applicants? i need to move :lol2:

no, there are many applicants... only 2 going are to boards.

I'm a new grad that has been working on this for the last year plus. The recruiter has sent my packet in for QA (physical completed in 2009). Based on the earlier comments of only experienced nurses being accepted this board I'm somewhat confused? Is the recruiter just going through the motions with me at this point and I really have no chance or are you saying the recruiters are submitting the packets but the board will not be selecting anyone withour prior experience? Whenever I ask him about my chances I always get "this will be a very competitive board". My goal had been to be selected for the community health training so I opted to sign the three year commitment paperwork without generic course guarantee.

its not ruled out that they are only accepting grads with experience..however the board uses a point system and is somewhat objective.. and based on that it is likely the majority of all applicants will be experienced... to answer your question - I don't know.. maybe that recruiting battalion or company has otherwise low number of applicants.

Ok, if I'm not accepted for active what chance do I have for a reserve position and can I resubmit if not selected for an active duty spot? Will they take new grads into reserve positions?

So this week I had to submit more documentation. I hope this is the last round, because I think I am running out of time. This could all be paranoia about not having it all together before the board convenes. I hope these last documents are enough to get me past QA. I am hoping for a pair of gold bars under my tree in December!
