  1. I have a Maxiscope in Bright Orange and a Cardiologist III. I find myself using the Maxiscope more often, I can hear just as well and it is much lighter around my neck.
  2. Good Luck to Everyone!!
  3. Did you make any changes to your resume, cover letter, approach, etc that you feel were the difference in getting these offers or was the timing just right?
  4. Will there be additional Reserve boards after October or like active duty will there be only one board for this fiscal year?
  5. Good Luck!
  6. Ok, if I'm not accepted for active what chance do I have for a reserve position and can I resubmit if not selected for an active duty spot? Will they take new grads into reserve positions?
  7. I'm a new grad that has been working on this for the last year plus. The recruiter has sent my packet in for QA (physical completed in 2009). Based on the earlier comments of only experienced nurses being accepted this board I'm somewhat confused? Is the recruiter just going through the motions with me at this point and I really have no chance or are you saying the recruiters are submitting the packets but the board will not be selecting anyone withour prior experience? Whenever I ask him about my chances I always get "this will be a very competitive board". My goal had been to be selected for the community health training so I opted to sign the three year commitment paperwork without generic course guarantee.
  8. Looking at Army active duty. The two classes I'm most interested in are the ER or Community Health. It's my understanding that you have to be selected/nominated at your duty station to attend these classes and they are not available as part of the generic course guarantee program. My recruiter is telling me that my best bet for getting into the ER or Community Health class is to take the standard 3 year commitment and work hard to get the class I want instead of signing for the generic course guarantee. He says that committing to one of the other generic courses (OB, ICU, OR, MH) will lock me into that track and I will not be eligible for the ER of CH. Can someone confirm this or share their experience? How hard is it to get a slot for one of the ER or Community Health classes?
  9. I have not, but the recruiter told me if I signed a 4 year contract (in his opinion) there would be a 100% chance of being deployed. Check out this blog of an Army nurse current deployed: http://nursebeth.blogspot.com/
  10. I'm also 40 with an ADN and was looking into the Army. This is what I've been told, if you want to go active and do not have prior service you must sign your active duty contract before turning 42 years old to ensure you can get 20 years in before mandatory retirement age at 62. If you go reserves initially there is a chance that you can switch over to active duty when you get your BSN (must first be released from your reserve unit which can take significant time) prior to turning 42, but no guarantees. You can submit your active duty application packet 12 months out so the advice I was given was to find an accelerated RN to BSN program, get enrolled, send packet forward when within 12 months of graduation, use student loans to pay for school and take loan repayment on your initial active duty contract. No idea how new incentives/requirements for fiscal 2010 would effect this plan. Good Luck!!
  11. Can anyone share their experiences trying to secure services for an autistic or otherwise developmentally delayed child while serving in the military. I'd like to pursing a nursing career in the Army (active duty), but my wife is concerned that we will not be able to find services for our son (age 7). From what I've been able to read Tri-care covers much more than our current health insurance, but the insurance isn't much use if you can't find qualified providers. Thank You
  12. Thank you for the feedback. I've been working with a recruiter for the past month and have completed most of my packet. I am waiting on the State Nursing Board so I can schedule the NCLEX. I will certainly look into the Nurse Candidate Program, sounds like the best option to meet my goals.
  13. Thank you, will do!!
  14. Sorry if I was unclear, I have my ADN (graduated June 2009). I just turned 40 (June 2009) and since I have a BS degree in another field I should be able to finish my BSN in 12 months or shortly after I turn 41. My fear is that any reserve commitment as a result of taking STRAP funding will prevent me from going active duty until after my 42 birthday. My recruiter is telling me that it will not be an issue since once I'm in the reserves the 42 age limit for active duty no longer applies, but this doesn't sound "right" to me. Thanks
  15. Am I correct in thinking that the 42 cut off for Active Duty would apply even if I were currently in the reserves?
