ANC Nov Board & M5 ID

Published

I wanted to start a thread for all of the people who are waiting for the November ANC selection board, specifically if you have/waiting on the M5 identifier for Emergency Nursing. I thought we could suffer together and update each other while we wait. You are welcome to post if you have another specialty or none at all.

My status:

I have submitted all documents, and waiting on M5 identifier approval, physical approval and for the packet to make it past QA.

What kind of facility is in CO? I've looked.... & I can't really find any information on ANY of the facilities that are not the 8 or 9 MEDCEN's  .

I think the name of the Hospital at Ft. Carson is Evans Army Community Hospital. It is a MEDDAC(Medical Department Activity) =hospital smaller than a MEDCEN(medical center). If you are looking for the smaller facilities, you can search on the Army Medical Command page, or you can google the name of the post that you are thinking about and add hospital after (e.g. Ft. Carson Hospital) and you should get some results that will point you in the right direction.

I went to the HRC(Human Resources Command) website* and looked for the assignments that are available to new accessions(which I think we will be if we are picked up, regardless of identifier) and a few things were listed. This is what was posted for follow on assignments for personnel completing the 8A(ICU) and M5(ED) specialty courses:

~Critical Care/8A: TAMC, HI; El Paso, TX; BAMC, TX ; WRAMC, Washington D.C.; LRMC, Landstuhl, Germany; MAMC, WA; Ft Gordon, GA. Assignments will be determined based upon operational requirements at the MTFs(Major Treatment Facilities).

~Emergency Nursing/M5: Assignments will be determined based upon mission needs. Potential follow on assignments are: TAMC, HI; MAMC, WA; Fort Bliss, TX; Fort Hood, TX; BAMC, TX; Fort Bragg, NC.

These are the assignments that were listed for new accessions 66H(Med/Surg Generalists):

LT MEDDAC, Fort Leonard Wood MO; LT MEDDAC, Fort Riley KS; LT MEDDAC, Fort Wainwright AK;

LT MEDDAC, Fort Irwin CA; LT 115th CSH, Fort Polk LA; LT MEDDAC, Fort Sill OK; LT MEDDAC, Fort Jackson SC; 212th CSH, Measu Germany - near Landstuhl Regional Medical Center and Ramstein AFB.

I do not know when this information was updated, and the website says that it is going under construction. Additionally, this information is subject to change based off of the needs of the Army.

As for Nov 16 being the "magic" day, in my experience with the Army nothing is done in 1 day :D, especially the stuff you want to happen:D. Typically boards that meet for promotion, accession, retention, and medical review convene for more than 1 day. The members of the board review, rate, then publish their list, which then still has to be rechecked before it is released, and published via MILPER(military personnel) message. Considering that this board is reviewing a lot of applications, it is highly likely that they will be meeting for more than 1 day, and that you will not hear anything before the week is out.

Check this board for threads from this time last year, it took them almost a month to find out, even though their recruiters promised they would know by Turkey Day. I say this not to be a nay sayer, but to prepare everyone so if you don't hear, you do assume the worst has happened. I'm not going to freak out til Dec 20:eek:

I have not been on active duty for 4 years, but I have been in the reserves that time, things may be different since time has passed, may JeckRN, just_cause or someone else that is current AD will read, and correct me as necessary. I tried to explain the acronyms for those not as familiar.

*I think you can only get to the HRC website if you have AKO(Army Knowledge Online) access.

One thing that I don't believe has been discussed is the fact that the X number of slots are presumed to be the applicants pool of competitors. The more likely truth is each BN is given X number of slots and their applicants compete for those.. depending on your geographic area - your BN - depending on the number of applicants they had will make it easier/harder for you. So my guess is the regions in economic 'pain', etc will have more applicants and be more competitive and that the total applicant pool is misleading on your individual chances of being accepted even though it does describe the overall situation at the board level.

I think Trauma's comments on the board decision etc are important.. however this year is different given the known push to have a single consolidated board for the year - so this just means it is different then previous cycles. That being said from the 'army' perspective is they are more or less just organizing applicants in an order of merit list, they have some identified metrics and they have a board (which is doing this prior to holiday's and therefore this may help expedite things to get done...) regardless of the end results its just organizing those applicants - where as to applicants it is a huge decision.

My assumption is results will be in a timely manner after the board - they need to be so they can start orders, begin background investigations, etc.

This is my first official post on allnurses.com :]

I've been following this thread for quite a while actually, I think it definitely provides a lot of comfort knowing how many other people are in your same boat... the waiting and the anticipation.. its killing me! As much as it is comforting knowing you all are going through the same right now, it is making me even more nervous. I see how much experience everyone here has, and many of you have prior service, and I'm just getting ready to graduate (33 more days!) from my BSN program. On top of that, you read all over the place that the Army isn't looking to take on too many new nurses such as myself.. so it makes the waiting and anticipation that much harder!

Nonetheless, I just wanted to wish everyone on here good luck. I know we are all too aware that the board meets in just a few short days! So GOOD LUCK.. I'm sure you guys have got this in the bag! I just hope I will be proudly serving alongside you guys very very soon!

Welcome to allnurses, Sarah!! Good luck to you, too, and congrats on being so close to your BSN! :)

Good luck to everyone! Tomorrow is the big day. Hope to see you all in OBC.

November 16th!! Yay!! Good luck, all! I'm sure I'll have another behind-kicking shift to keep me occupied today, haha.

My prayers are with you all :heartbeat I do have a question, though. How can the Accession Board look at every packet from every applicant in the country in one day? Is there a board that meets in each state? Do they do their selecting in one day as well, or do they take a few weeks to make that decision. I am just having trouble grasping the whole process. Thanks, everyone. Good luck to you all:hug:

We have been speculating about this... At the risk of beating a dying horse I'll say read the previous posts on this thread.

Who knows when we will hear results it could be as fast as tomorrow, or it could be christmas. No one is positive, and recruiters have told people different things. All I can say is the waiting has begun, and as soon as someone hears anything I bet a cup of Starbucks' best you will hear it (or read it) here:) So my plan is to pass the time working, running and perfecting a recipe for a Brandy Alexander cheesecake that I stumbled across.

Thank you. I spoke with my recruiter today. He told me that this is a four day board. If we don't hear anything by Thanksgiving, then it won't be too much longer after that. I feel a certain peace about the whole thing, though. I know that I will do whatever it is that God has planned for me. Thanks again. :redpinkhe

Yeah, I still haven't understood (I should've asked & probed more I guess, ha) how many applicants there are nationally to how many there are in my region. I was told the other day that they figured that there are about 250 applicants (again -nationally or regionally? Sounds like regionally w/ that number?) & that there are approximately 1 out of 6 of those vying for the ER slots. Yeah, do THAT math & those are GREAT odds, folks :). My recruiter said he should know by Wednesday....so we'll see.

Like you said, Stardogdaisy, we can only do what we can do & God has the rest under control. I've just been trying to ride the waves in His peace. I've been stressed more over trying to find a place to watch my dog if it all happens! That's my child! :)

God bless you all! :heartbeat
