Signed and delivered. I am new to this site and I also finally figured out for change to occur I must do more than just talk about it....any suggestions to get me on my way to Activism? Annita

Be aware that the organization behind this petition is called the National Nurses Organizing Committee (NNOC), "a new national union for RN's, Advanced practice nurses and RN organization thoughout the country" per the website and was founded by California Nurses Association (CNA).

By signing this petition you are giving NNOC your name, address and email--- easy way to create a database of nurses....

I do support it's message.

I like most of the message but something about it rubbed me the wrong way. Something about the request that he meet with a bunch of NNOC (them) nurses in particular. No offense to them but if they are a relatively new organization maybe they should be happy to be part of a larger more representative delegation. Unless they are trying to make more of a name for themselves. But then again maybe I am just being way to cynical again.

I would like to see the issue of frivolous malpractice lawsuits addressed. This is contributing to the rising cost of healthcare. This is also a factor in the inability for some to have access to and afford needed care.

A.

PS..I don't trust unions myself.

I would like to see an investigation of frivolous malpractice lawsuits also. Good idea.

Doesn't the ANA use your info in the same way? Maybe we need a new group with some moxie to get something going.

Me too. I didn't sign the petition. Like one of the other posters stated....something about it just rubbed me the wrong way and I can't really put my finger on it.

Maybe it rubbed you the wrong way because the NNOC seems to be actively promoting unionization?

I applaud the effort of RNs to try to effect change by splitting from the (basically useless when it comes to dealing with today's hospital workplace) ANA.

However, I'm not necessarily for staffing ratios because it appears that the CA hospitals cut ancillary staff when it hired more RNs, and I LIKE having monitor techs, CNAs, and Unit Secretaries.

I do support other items on their agenda, so I'll probably sign the petition. My philosophy with something like this is, it's new, it won't be perfect, but change is absolutely necessary for our profession and for our patients.
