Male CNA seeking advice from a nurse
You will have no trouble finding a job once you get your RN degree. I am in my last semester (yeah!!!!!!!!!!!) and accepted a job offer back in September for an ICU position. Also like the previous poster said most hospitals would love a CNA that is going to nursing school (especially RN) because they hope that they will stay on at the hospital when they graduate. Plus many will help you pay your way through school. Also I recieved my job offer and work in management at a call center. So currently you have more health care experience than me.

help me!
One hospital in my area has a pediatric emergency department. If you can find a similar situation near where you live that might be the best of both worlds.

Myn in OB
Actually that did not come off as friendly in any way. I agree that you should now your facts before speaking but I also believe that you should correct others in a more polite fashion. Everyone will make a mistake someday so lets treat others the way we want to be treated. OK enough being serious. I love lamp.

My First Shot!!!
Just out of curiosity, which clinical semester is everyone in who just gave their first shots. I am only asking because I have not gotten a chance to give anyone a shot yet but I am only in my first semester of clinical and I wondered how other schools are doing it. So far about all I have done is wipe bottoms and get people dressed. I thought that it would bother me more to have to clean people up but it is amazing how much easier it is when you know that the person right in front of you is relying on you to clean them or else it will not get done.

pda use in nursing
I just got an Axim X30 pocket PC and I love it. I finally decided to go with that because I am so used to the windows platform that I wanted to stick with that even in my PDA. It seems like palm got a HUGE jump in the market but that pocket PCs have been catching up pretty fast. With the weight of Microsoft behind it I figured that trend would continue and there would continue to be more software for the pocket PC. Plus most of the programs that are in windows have free pocket pc versions if you have it on your your computer (Money, Streets and Tips)

An Open Letter to the President of the United States from America's RNs
I like most of the message but something about it rubbed me the wrong way. Something about the request that he meet with a bunch of NNOC (them) nurses in particular. No offense to them but if they are a relatively new organization maybe they should be happy to be part of a larger more representative delegation. Unless they are trying to make more of a name for themselves. But then again maybe I am just being way to cynical again.

New BUSH Overtime TakeBack Law
we may not agree on who to vote for but at least we agree that one issue does not a make a good (or bad) president. i will be voting for bush for many reasons (not going to hijack thread with all my views). if that means i will have less money in my pocket well thats ok because in the end there are other things that are going to be more important in the long run.

New BUSH Overtime TakeBack Law
I for one am still waiting until I see someone post that they have actually been denied time and half for overtime in a situation where they would have been paid time and a half before. With everyone saying that we are all in danger of losing our OT I still have yet to hear of anyone being denied OT by their employer. Quote: If any of these "learned" professional RNs vote for Bush after this, I don't want them caring for me in a hospital setting. Some of these learned professionals may vote on the basis of the whole picture and not just one law that they may or may not agree with. :balloons: :balloons:

Need advice
It sounds like you have done about all you can and this person really needs a change of heart. That is only going to come from god and all that you can do now is pray.

Help--I have gained 80 pounds within a year
Well I would say the most alarming part of your post was the last. DON"T DO IT!!! I have been there before and it does get better. At one point in my life they admitted me to the hospital for a week and made me wear slippers because they were afraid I was going to use my shoelaces to hang myself. At that point in my life I didn't care about anything and thought the only way out was suicide. In one moment of reaching out for help to a friend I got the help I needed. It was a close call for a while there and I am surprised that I made it. At that time I saw no reason to keep going. Now when I look back on that time it really seems inconcievable that I could have really wanted to end my life that badly. Good luck with everything please please please go and talk to someone about your depresson it will get better I promise.

All NY State ADN's and Students
Even if this gets passed it is going to be a while. Notice how it said no date has been set to even start discussing it yet at the board of regents level. When my brother in law was starting school (he just finished this spring) it was an issue then as well. So as you can see this isn't exactly moving very fast. Since it will not affect anyone that is a student when (if) it is passed everyone that is on this board probably will not be affected. I am on a wait list and expect to get into a my nurisng program in the spring and I will be shocked if this is passed before then as I am sure that it will take a while to set a date to discuss it then there will be long breaks for thanksgiving and christmas and finally about this time next year they may have gotten around to it. So we are safe with our associates degrees. However for the future of nursing in NY. Yeah for a while I think it will cause more of a shortage, which will drive salaries up which in a few years time(about the 4 it takes to get a BSN) will get us back to where we are now since more people will choose nursing if the salaries go up even higher in NY. It may even attract some nurses from out of state to come for higher wages. Also since anyone with their associates already does not have to ever get a BSN, this would attract nurses with two year degrees and four year degrees.

Becoming a CRNA - From One Who Did It
Hey guys I just started taking classes at my local community college this spring in order to get an associates degree in nursing. With that in mind this may seem like a little early to be asking about becoming a CRNA but it really does sound like everything that I would love in a job. Well after I finish my associates degree I am planning on applying to get into a combined BSN/MS program where in three years I could have both degrees. I figure for the extra year (instead of just two and only having a BSN) it would be worth it. My question is, would already having a masters degree when applying for CRNA be any help or am I just wasting my time? Also the school that I want to go to for this program would also be my first choice for CRNA school (SUNY Buffalo) so I was hoping that proving that I could handle graduate work there and succeed might improve my chances of getting accepted there. In the meantime once I finsh getting my associates I will apply for an ICU so hopefully during these three years of taking classes I will also have accumulated 3 years of ICU experience.
