  1. --This is why I don't work at a Hospital anymore. I would take this kind of CRAP for 5 minutes. I work now in Home Health doing visits, Make much more money, am independent, less stress. Try it-maybe you will like it. Miake from Miami. Have a good day and I hope your pregnancy goes well:)
  2. My Ladyfriend (and also my Dentist) priced Private Insurance for me out of country-the BEST policy money can BUY-in Bogota and it was $70/monthly.Includes Everything-meds, docs, surgeons, hospital room, xrays, dental-all inclusive. I was amazed at the price variation-same policy here in Fl. would cost me $800+/monthly. I go there already for my dental and eye care. The medical care is very good-just like here -do your due-diligence first. I am planning to get liposuction there in the near future and at one of the best clinics in north bogota-it will cost about $500-600-total Here in miami-maybe $1500-$2500! . Pays to shop around. Mike
  3. Well for Bush the shoe is on the other foot now with his ANG service;hope the press runs with this one as they have with the (not so) Swift boat Ads.:rotfl:
  4. You should change schools. The LPN program I attended(was part of lpn-rn Bridge program) all gen. ed courses were the same, including anatomy, Physiology, nutrtion, ect.ANd it WAS intense.7 out of 23 finished. LPN school is not easier-maybe a year shorter but not easier. Seems like you had a personality conflict with this teacher.Don't let one teacher ruin your life.
  5. Thats why I left the hospital and work Home Health(florida) . Too many pts. and not enough$$$. In home health I see one pt. at a time and I hustle on my route(6 pts) BID so 72 weekly. I hit $70000 last year and if I picked up a few more pts. I could have hit $100000 last year. Mike Try Home Health-you may like it.
  6. I observed this phenomenon where I used to staff and a lot of the older staff complained about new nurses or just new hires and in reviewing their work-I observed that they had in may cases committed the same errors they accused others of. People with shortcomings of their own attempt to take the focus off their shortcomings by criticizing others, transference I guess-Mike
  7. Florida where I reside is a "right to work" state-the old law in regard to overtime was very simple. It was a seismic shift-this law-to confuse the issue-and leaves a lot to intereptation-this family-since the 30's-have a long history of fighting anything from child labor laws, social secuity, medicare, outsourcing-anything that may benefit athe low and middle income american worker. And this law is more of the same. If they ever told me no OT-I would walk out the door. Thanks for the reply.
  8. Hi-Im too! Legally I am noy sure what can be done about it. They(many tax preparers) are also outsourcing income tax returns-so I would think the us companys feet should be held to the fire in court. I cancelled two accounts recently when I got a call center in India and went companies that hire americans. I have seen the devastating effects of outsourcing so I am pro-american worker.:) MIke God Bless the USA
  9. Got a reply from this thread -no idea why as I never iniated one Mike
  10. All state boards are differ-in their scope of practice. Here in Fl. the only big difference that seperates us is--1) we have to have an addmission countersigned by an RN --2) WE cannot iniate blood --but we change after the 1st bag--3)we can not give IV push meds-but neither can an RN unless she ICU priveleges.--not much diff. is there-Mike
  11. Anne I misunderstood your original post-in its entirety it is very clear now-the stats are around 70% from the income level described so I stand by my numbers.Contrast this to vietnam-the mix was across the board-poor,middle and upper. I don't have the web-link to this stats at this time but I can provide them if you like.Have a good night-sorry for any confusion-and I SALUTE your sons for their military service.I am pro-vet and an american legion member. Maybe I can sign your sons up when they get out. Mike:coollook:
  12. Indiana State University has an Lpn to BSN program that can be completely done online and you take your clinicals locally-I am looking at it. their web address is--www.college- net.com their phone is--1-800-395-3276. Hope this helps-Mike:coollook:
  13. LOrriane Hi from Mike in Miami-I work as an LPN. I worked in the Gov.(Va) for several years. LPNs without any exp. start at a GS3-(there are steps 1-10 in each gs level) they top out at GS6. GS3-step one-I don't think hit$10/hr. However if you tough it out and make it to GS6-step 10 -as I was when I left--I was up to around $19/hr. Now maybe they top out at $20-more or less. I had locality premium also as my area was considered "high cost of living"-and you work very hard for it. I made a couple huge salary jumps due to a few outstanding evaluations and hit my top step in 7 years. This is not usual. Gross was maybe around $40K yearly. I left 2 years ago-for home health- and last year I hit $70,000. Had I worked harder I might have grossed $100K. I work Hard-7 days a week on home health visits 5-6 pts. bid-so 80-90 visits weekly. I like it as I am an independent person who does not like to take marching orders in a hospital nor the gossip and backbiting so prevelant in that setting. With my routine-if I move and see my pts. I make $$$$-if I goof off no$$$-but all up to my own effort. In the hospital-your wages are controlled-sometimes beyond your control no:o good.I could never go back to staffing and taking marching orders. I doubt that they will ever do away with LPNs.If you are resourceful-you can make$$$. Have faith in yourself. Hope this helps-Mike.
  14. Hi- Sorry for your anger. That is true-we have volunteer service-not so when I served-DRAFT then. I have strong recollections of WAR. War should only be the VERY last choice used only after all other means are exhausted. I did not see that in Iraq and still do not. No WMD -our only reason stated for invading! I felt, as many Vets do,that we lost our focus on terrorism-by not continuing to pursue Osama Bin Laden-who killed nearly 3000 americans on 9/11. So I am angry also-but not at you-at 1) Bin Laden 2) at the administration who failed to keep the hunt on for Bin Laden.--Mike:o
  15. We never had to go there from the 1st place-Osama Bin Laden was in Afgan'n -not Iraq. There were no connections between Saddam and Osama-we lost valuable time and resources going into Iraq. Are we safer? Where? $200 Billion in debt and almost 1000 fine young soldiers have died. We all know now no WMD.Out only reason to go there in the 1st place.
