Am I able to get a raise once I get my BSN?

Hello everyone!

I'll be getting my BSN soon and I'm wondering if I should talk to my HR department about getting a raise after I graduate. Does getting my Bachelors degree qualify me for more money if I'm already in the position?

Thanks for your advice :)

I think it is different for different companies. At my company BSN is paid the same as ADN.

Good to know!

It varies per facility. We get a 2% raise for BSN.

We all make the same. To them RN=RN. Now, down the road you higher degree may open up more doors for you. But I doubt right now in the same position it means anything.

Entirely up to your facility. Last time I checked.. BSN prepared nurses received a whopping 25 cents an hour extra.

I think a 2% raise would be awesome!

My 37 year old BSN degree has gotten me exactly 0% more money over the years.

Where I work you get a a raise for your BSN. It is worth asking HR about.

I got the same for my MSN as I got for my BSN. (Hint: It's a whole number less than 1)

We get 1% added to our annual salary. But it is factored into the max 3% annual raise that you can get....so, at least in the ICU, you probably just will essentially get less credit for all the other stuff that you are required to do (IV placement skills, specialty skills for your unit, committees)

I've seen it matter from zero to fifty cents. It doesn't hurt to ask ...but pad the BSN news with other reasons you deserve a raise, too.
