allnurses or allSTUDENTnurses?

Published

Is it my imagination, or has allnurses become predominantly a forum for students? I dunno, it seems like I have to wade thru tons of threads about nursing schools or nursing instructors, or new grads, in order to find a thread about nurses who already working. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE and feel for students, it's just that the site is being overwhelmed with them. Maybe it''s because they are sooooo stressed out now so they need to vent more?

I realize I'll get flamed for this, but I have noticed this trend.

Students are quite active here. Sometimes when you hit "last 24 hours" you find a lot of student, so you have to dig.

But really when you take into account the many many forums here, and take into account the many many posts made on a daily basis, students are a small minority.

You should also check out Allnurses Central by clicking the "central" link above. It's a cool place to hang out.

The General Forums Here: https://allnurses.com/main.php

And the speciality forums tend to be dominated by experienced folks. https://allnurses.com/nursing-specialties/

I tend to agree. I think the staff need to be aggresive about moving the posts where they belong

Oh Tweety.. now I'm gonna be up all night. I have been here for couple years now and just discovered the allnurses central because of your post. I went and checked it out.. now I've got a lot more to read!! Thanks (and I really do mean thanks )

If you see threads/posts that you think need to be moved, please, report them. With dozens of forums and hundreds of threads, we really rely on members to let us know when something needs to be relocated.

Thanks!

Thanks to you Tweety I just also discovered central:up::tku:

This issue has been discussed before, actually I think quite recently. I believe in general it appears as though students have the most threads because of the following:

1. There are a lot of students. They are extremely active, searching, hoping, being excited and will post most anything that comes to mind in an attempt to get that much closer to nursing.

2. Seasoned nurses don't have as much to ask or discuss. On average I am sure we could all think of something to post, but most of the time I don't think we really feel the need to look for advice on a board. Most of the time I find myself just responding to other threads, offering advice or reading funny stories.

3. I believe most of the student posts are also appearing in the general category because, to be honest, I don't think many seasoned nurses peruse the student forums, leaving them probably feeling the only place to get seasoned RN advice is in the general category.

This forum has a myriad of sub sections. I have been here for years and I can't say I have even ventured into half of them on a regular basis. Therefore I don't mind much if the student questions pop up here. Yes I get tired of reading the same old thing over and over and wish people would do a search and look for answers that way. However overall I just cruise over redundant posts and look for other things to pique my interest.

No need to be such a negative nancy. you were in the students shoes once. students are verrry limited on time. they post wherever they can asap.

Seasoned nurses are also a lot more retrospect in what they post...there's so much I'd like others take on...but won't post for fear it will haunt me later. They can and will find it - you can bet your bottom dollar on that one.

First, there was nothing overl negative about it - it was an observation.

Second, if students are indeed limited on time, then they need to learn to use "search". It is much quicker to acquire data on topics via search, rather than posting a topic and waiting for someone who is not burned out on the topic, to answer.

Third, experienced nurses are also "verrry limited on time".

There is a great discussion going on just a few threads down in a discussion started by Suesquatch.

Maybe you could specify the name of the thread. "Just a few threads down" is a location that is subject to change.

Or you could go up to the URL address window, copy it, and paste it into a post as a link. Then we'd have no doubt about the thread you're referring to.

Thanks.

I have no problem with student posters. I wish I had discovered this board when I was a student.

That said, I wish the student section had a "homework help" section.
