  1. Again, it’s interesting the Nurse managers won’t respond to this post. Cowards
  2. Is that Susie person gone? Is it safe to go back to following this thread?
  3. I used to have a stutter up to my early twenties. I used a technique that eventually got rid of it. I don't remember how Or where I learned it, but it helped me. What I did was : talk on the exhale. Nice deep breath in.....then talk on the exhale. I don't know how it worked, but it worked for me. It would stop my stutter, eased my anxiety over stuttering, then eventually, no stutter. I have always wanted to recommend this to a fellow stutterer, but oddly never met one. I'm curious if your speech therapy ever included this....
  4. At least I got my answer...it's not common, and it's a good chance that either guy was a moron and misinterpreted or just a fluke by some odd hospital or staff member. Got it.
  5. Uh no. He was ASKED IF HE WAS A UNITED STATES CITIZEN . That s pretty straight forward. Not did he have insurance. Not if he had been abroad. Not if he had any cultural considerations. In triage, by the triage nurse. Not by the person with the clipboard getting all his insurance, but by a triage nurse while he was telling them why is was in the ER. So I found this pretty disconcerting, but I've been retired, and I figure maybe now it's something hospitals do. evidently it is. I find it depressing but I guess nurses in the USA see it as part of the job.
  6. Well that makes sense, I just don't recall being asked about money, even in triage, but if that's how it's done now I'm not surprised! And so I guess it's customary. Huh. I'm not concerned about the quality of care, I still like to believe that most, nurses care for all people equally. But asking if you are legal when Sick or hurt must be frightening, do they then Contact ICE?
  7. triciaj, you do know that culture and citizenship (legal status) are two separate things. Us citizens have many cultures. They didn't ask if he like grits with breakfast, they asked if he was a US CITIZEN. And MunoRN, I see your point. But wouldn't it be more appropriate to ask about legal status when you are talking about insurance etc.? TO me asking in triage is vaguely threatening like, we may or may not take care of you based on your citizenship. Hell even here in Guatemala they treat first, get money/insurance/citizenship after.
  8. Thanks, he just told the truth, which is that he was a US citizen. I'm not asking what to do now, (Patient relations? Puhlease) I'm just curious if this is done a lot? Is this common now in the US?
  9. A friend went to the ER, and while being triaged he was asked if he was a US citizen ( this was in the USA of course). Is this customary? I never recalled being asked when I was a patient, nor do I recall asking when I was a nurse. Is this the new normal?
  10. My user name is based on a Sailboat I lived on while living on a boat in Miami. It was eventually destroyed by hurricane Wilma. I still miss her, and Miami :)
  11. I would definitely change my clothes, if only to be clean and feel f resh, but I have never understood this love affair with business suits for interviews!! WHO CARES???? I just don't understand it. I have hired people, and I couldn't care less WHAT they wore...if they were intelligent, reliable, etc. who gives a damn about clothing??? Come to the interview in a t-shirt and jeans? Fine! What matters to me is the person..not some goofy suit from Macy's. To me wearing a suit to a job interview just shows you are a lemming and a follower. But I bet I'm the only person in allnurses who feels this way.
  12. This is so depressing. Is it just nursing? Does this happen with bankers? Teachers?
  13. Traveling the western Caribbean in out sailboat. Funny though, I dream about nursing frequently.
  14. Might be interesting to include area and degree
