Alcohol consumption (in nursing school)

Published

Hello,

I'm a legal age student who is looking to get into a nursing program. I don't "go out/go to parties", but, I don't mind drinking alcohol.

Does anyone know if drinking alcohol is forbidden while in nursing school? Someone told me that.

Specifically, does anyone know if Wilkes University forbids alcohol in its accelerated nursing program? The student handbook did not make it clear (when I read it online).

Thank you!

As long as you don't show up clinicals hungover or with alcohol in your system, our policy does not forbid drinking if you are of legal age.

You're going to need to consume some alcohol to get through nursing school...

No alcohol on campus, no alcohol in uniform, don't show up to class/clinical after drinking or hungover

Please tell use that your user name is not your real name...if so I would suggest more online anonymity or you may find yourself either not getting accepted to a nursing school or your school time could be cut short before graduation.

Cracklingkraken,do you know if that's the policy for Wilkes University?

CourtBSN--ha, thanks, but I sure hope I don't succumb to that level :p

OnOn2RN--I never plan to be hungover, ever, but are you saying no alcohol on campus as a general rule of thumb?

AJJKRN--No, my name is not Joe Dignasio, I'm not sure if my account is like "fraud" or something. I purposely didn't want my name out in public. Do you see any evidence of any other indication of my name? Not that I believe that I'm going to ever say anything that's "wrong", but, better safe than sorry!

I just replied to a different thread but I would just change your username to something that shouldn't be confused with a real name then.;)

Nope not forbidden. I used to drink on the weekends while in nursing school. Never ever go hungover to school or clinicals. I have a rule for myself not to have a drink 24 hours before being with a patient.

I have never heard of drinking not being acceptable for students of legal age. When I went to nursing school the nursing students had pub crawls regularly. The big issue was you were not supposed to wear anything with the nursing school logo when out drinking.

I don't know. I've never even heard of that school.

You could probably look up the nursing program handbook online.

In addition to the obvious "don't be under the influence during class/clinicals", my nursing school didn't allow drinking at anything school-affiliated or representing the school - eg. you couldn't drink while attending a nursing school association conference or something. Beyond that, no restrictions, as long as it was done in a legal manner (overage, no drinking and driving).

I actually attend said school. There are no restriction on drinking if you're of legal age. Also, someone above stated no drinking at school events. This does not apply to my school. Alcohol was provided at our last school function. Students of age were allowed to drink. Just be smart and always appropriate.
