Children observe us and hopefully, we provide a positive example. As the child pays attention to our every move, our seemingly innocuous "little white lie" can backfire. So, we instill the old adage: Honesty is the best policy. As a nurse, what positive example has your child picked up from you?

That handwashing is the first and best way to stop infection from spreading!
This does not mean, however, that they wash their hands...

This really happened. A nurse told her young son to wash up before dinner. He complained all the way and kept muttering, "Jesus and germs! Jesus and germs! That's all I ever hear about and I ain't never seen either one!".

They actually wash their hands. Non nursing related they know how to ask the groceries to be bagged. NOTHING with chicken or pork...LOL
One day we had kids playing over the house....they were probably about 4 and 5. Or driveway is a hill and one kids was running down the driveway (and were told NO DRIVEWAY Mom did nothing) and fell. My ever empathectic daughter ran over to see if the little guy was hurt...upon reaching him and her first survey she said "No blood no bones you're fine now buck up" and walked away.
The kids Mom sat there with her mouth open then frantically ran to her son (who was clearly fine). I fell out of my chair laughing.
Yup...that apple is never far from that tree.

Haha! I love that! Once when my son was 4 he fell backward and hit his head on something. He stood up and was bleeding from his head, and my 8 year old daughter ripped her shirt off over her head and used it to hold pressure - one of her hands on his forehead, the other holding her shirt over his wound. Good times! haha!

We were all at the dinner table with friends and beeper went off. I excused myself, made a phone call, returned and announced I had to leave for the hospital.
My then 5 y/o said in an exasperated voice, "good grief, she has to go to another paceenta preebee session". I about fell out because she was not only funny, she was right. It was a stat c-section for placenta praevia. LOL!!

My son woke us up one morning to let us know that he had 6 hours to get to the hospital, and have surgery to take care of his pain. We thought sure right, took him to the doctor who sent us straight to the local ER and into surgery. My brilliant son had checked his symptoms in one of my nursing books before coming to tell us he had a problem. At the ER he refused to allow the ER nurses start his IV's, Told them he wanted mom and dad to start the IV's. Every department that helped care for him had something funny to report. Small town so everyone knew him already. Sadly he didn't want to go into medicine, he would have been a good nurse or doctor even.

I'm the nurse at my daughter's school. Whenever she walks by the clinic and sees a kid sitting in my chair or, heaven forbid, looking at my computer or my files, she'll say, "You can't be looking at that!! HIPAA violation!!"
LOL!!! Too funny.
