Accepted FSCJ Summer 2010 Students

Published

Hey everybody!

I just wanted to start a separate thread regarding our acceptance into the FSCJ (a.k.a. FCCJ) Summer 2010 "RN" program. I know we've all been posting to the "hopefuls" page but now that we aren't "hopefuls" anymore, and we're more like "stressfuls"... I thought I'd start a new page... JOIN ME! :)

I guess it is technically called something else other than "RN program" but... here we go anyway.

I'm still a bit confused as to whether, during orientation, I should be more focused on getting a hospital close to my house or a teacher that will be great during my first term.

Does anyone have any suggestions on this? I've always made the teacher my first priority but I'm curious as to whether or not, those of you who have been there, think that there is a big enough difference in teachers that we would be wise to drive for miles to get to a specific one.

FYI, payment deadline for classes is tomorrow, 4/15.

Hi I'm new here. I'm doing my pre-requisites right now so I will not be in the nursing program until next summer if accepted - I hope. I'm assuming everyone on this thread is around Jacksonville, hence the title. I have a question and hopefully someone can enlighten me before I become fully committed on the ADN program. Do you know if our local hospitals will hire ADN graduates or know someone that got hired on? Just very curious and thanks in advance for the response.

All of the local hospitals have hired ADN nurses, including Flager (but they are really picky, the person I know that got hired there was very persistant). I just got hired at Specialty about 3 and a half months ago (I graduated in August). Its harder to get on at Baptist/Wolfson's because they are magnet, but it is possible as I know quite a few people who got hired at Baptist, (all locations) and two at Wolfson's. Shands I think is trying to become magnet right now but I know people who got hired there as well.

Thank you misswhitney. Did you have any work experience? I hope you don't mind me asking. It seems like the hospitals need prior experience.

Specializes in Emergency, Med/Surg, Ortho, Home Health, Public He.

I picked up my box of books today. It is 34.7lbs worth of books. I bought the ebox as well.

I worked at Publix for 5 years which helped me to get one interview at St. Vincent's. Other than that, no. Best advice is to network and befriend everyone. A girl I went to school with actually got me the job.

Question....

Once you're accepted for instance n/w - are you stuck with that schedule until you graduate or can you transfer to daytime? Also, I was looking at Term 1 and there were 4 classes I believe - do I have to take all these classes or can I choose which to take? I'm working full time and there is no way I will quit my job. I can't afford to quit and that's the fact. I want to know what to expect so I'll be prepared. Thanks again.

The aptitude test - what book did you study to review?

We had people switch at orientation. And if you fail a class, you can be offered a position in the day program or the night program, wherever it is available. You have to take all four classes together, they give you a list of what classes you have to take for each semester as each one is a pre-req for the next semester.

After term one, you get to pick your classes and I was told you don't have to be stuck in just days or nights terms 2-4.

Not to my knowledge. From my experience, once nights always nights and vice-versa. I suspect that if a slot opened in the opposited schedule you might be able to ask for it, but usually those are filled with those needing the slot after failing a class.

Holy Cow, my 4 yr old weighs slightly more than this but I swear this box felt like it was double his weight. Bring a cart or some muscles to pick up the box. I'm glad I had a somewhat close parking spot. If I had been in the back of the lot I wouldn't hve made it.

For those of you who have already purchased the box, can you give me a breakdown of exactly what's in it? I'm trying to decide if I want to buy the box or not.

:)

So what is this Evolve site they're enrolling us into for?

Just got emails saying 2 of my professors enrolled me into a course on the Evolve Learning System
