Accepted FSCJ Summer 2010 Students

U.S.A. Florida

Hey everybody!

I just wanted to start a separate thread regarding our acceptance into the FSCJ (a.k.a. FCCJ) Summer 2010 "RN" program. I know we've all been posting to the "hopefuls" page but now that we aren't "hopefuls" anymore, and we're more like "stressfuls"... I thought I'd start a new page... JOIN ME! :)

I guess it is technically called something else other than "RN program" but... here we go anyway.

I'm still a bit confused as to whether, during orientation, I should be more focused on getting a hospital close to my house or a teacher that will be great during my first term.

Does anyone have any suggestions on this? I've always made the teacher my first priority but I'm curious as to whether or not, those of you who have been there, think that there is a big enough difference in teachers that we would be wise to drive for miles to get to a specific one.

I guess all the professors in charge of the programs are taking the summer off.

I really wanted Burns for Pharm. She wrote the test and gives reviews before exams. Others... not so much!:crying2:

These are 3 of the profs we had out term 1. It was the Pharm teacher's first time teaching Pharm, so we suffered a bit.... as far as the other profs go.....our class LOVED having them!

anybody know anything about this Jahjah prof for clinicals?

Is anyone planning on working full-time and going n/w to school? I can't decide if I should do it, or wait until the fall when I can just go to school and not work.

Marina, I would make VERY sure they are SURE the fall will be at Deerwood. I was told straight from a certain someone's mouth, that THIS SUMMER would be at Deerwood. I would drop myself and start over in the fall if I believed anything she said. I have a hard time trusting they won't just randomly decide to change it again. I would want to hear it from the director or dean.

I know exactly what you mean! I want to send an email to both the director and the dean, but I doubt very highly that they would commit to something this far out (for fall). And besides, they always say things are "subject to change" so we just have to roll with the punches. It just wasn't meant to be...this time.

I am in term 3 N/W and I have worked FT the whole time. You can do it. :clown:

Wow FLmomof5, that is so impressive. And you have 5 kids?! I am in awe  LOL. I only have one child (3 yrs old) and I'm nervous to be going to school and working. Where do you find time to study, if you don't mind me asking. Can you give me a "day in the life" of FLmomof5? :)

I also have a 3 year old and my husband is military( meaning help from him is unpredictable). I'm not working but still wondering how hectic days will be. I'm hoping that this all sounds scarier than it really is, expecially testing every Monday .

Day in the life of Momof5.......

Get a call on Skye @ 0615 hrs from my hubby who is currently in Afghanistan. :D

Until last week, I would leave the house at 0645 to take DD to EWHS (since she is special assignment), but she now has her DL and takes herself to school! Now I go straight to work....usually there ~0730. Work until 1600 (4 PM for you civlians! LOL)

For first term, I would leave work....

M: head to N Campus for exam(s).

T: head to Deerwood for class

W: head to Deerwood for class

TH: head to Deerwood for class

F: Head home.....unless I had something due Sat, get to bed early! (for the 1st 8 weeks) Head to Baptist DWNTN for patient information. (2nd 8 weeks) Work on careplan until the wee hours of the morning.

S: Class during the day. (1st 8 weeks) Clinicals (2nd 8 weeks) Then study, do assignments, post on blackboard...whatever was due.

Sunday: studying, assignments, do my laundry, do shopping, clean a bit of the house, pay bills....not necessarily in that order. Go to sleep....

Know this....days off between terms or holiday breaks I usually lounged in bed the bulk of the day! I needed a break and I took it!

Here is what made it easier for me....notice my age! I only have 1 child home for the bulk of the time. (My step kids live with their mom in SC.) Four of my children are grown and don't live at home. My youngest just turned 17. My husband has 2 grown kids. His younger 2 are 16 and 12.

Hopefully you have family or friends who can lend an occasional hand. Lower your expectations for cleanliness of the home. You can worry about that AFTER you get your RN. Also, lower your expectations for your final GPA. "B"s will still get you a job!

Good Luck to both of you!

Forgot to mention that I would use the period before class to review the pp slides or read!.

I am a clean freak! Letting the house go will be my biggest challenge. I don't work outside the home but do have two disabled girls. My daughter and her best friend. They take up most of my time, but I don't complain, they are giving me LOADS of experience. My husband is AWESOME and is doing everything he can to help me prepare for "study time" we have all agreed to have cereal for dinner and hot lunches at our respective locations. Oh, my husband shaved our cocker spaniels so the need to vacuum will not be daily!!! It's the little things that make the biggest difference. :)

Hey guys! I just received the call today offering me admission. Now I just have to make it to campus tomorrow morning to confirm my spot. :monkeydance: Looking forward to meeting all of you next month.

Congrats!! Seems like theyve made a couple of calls today.
