Acceptance & Denial letters and waivers

Published

I was wondering how your schools differ from mine ?? We have many students who have waivers for fall of this year including myself because I just completed a prenursing course after a deadline. Some students just received their acceptance letters yesterday. Do your schools send out the acceptance and denial letters out at the same time?? They also say waiver students get their letters sent at the same time. I am hoping it's just the mail & that I will get something tomorrow...LOL

I have no idea what you mean by "waivers". What kind of waivers do you mean? My school sends out acceptance and denials at the same time.

I am not sure what you mean by waivers either, but my previous school sends acceptance/denial letters in order alphabetically by last name over the course of a week or two.. It was rather nerve racking because my last name is near the end >.

The school I was just accepted to sent them out all at the same time I think.

The school I will be attending this fall sends all letters, whether you are accepted, waitlisted, or denied, at the same time. There is a one week period in which we are guaranteed to receive a letter about our status. Of course, not everyone receives their letter on the same day, depending on how far you live from the university.

Those who are accepted have until the end of that week to confirm that they will be attending. The following week is when the people on the waitlist are notified if they have been accepted if any of the originally accepted students decide not to attend.

Hope that info helps! (I'm not really sure what you meant by the 'waivers' either...)

I think what she is referring to is a 'guaranteed acceptance' waiver often given by schools for students who use their pre-nursing program and pass with a specific GPA.

I did not attend such a school, but one in my city exists and operates with this type of admission.

Our acceptance and denial letters were sent out at the same time.

What I mean is at my school we have to send in waivers to apply for clinical if certain classes are not finished before a certain date. It just says that we promise to pass with at least a C or better & we will be considered for clinical. If you have a waiver, it just means that all the other students without waivers will be considered before you, even if your gpa is higher, all because they completed a class on time.

Oh okay. Never heard of that but it makes sense to me.

My school has rolling admissions. They accept applications from August 1st through February 1st. They start sending out letters of approval, denial, or waitlist in December. I applied in August 2009, found out I was waitlisted on Christmas Eve (yeah, Merry Christmas to me :uhoh3:), then 2 weeks later, got my acceptance letter. :D My acceptance was conditional based on finishing my last 2 prereqs with a C or better before my accpetance was considered "official".

I'm jealous! At my school, I was waitlisted in November and didn't find out that somebody declined their acceptance until the end of April, 2 weeks before school started. It was very nerve-wracking; you think they'd have made them decide sooner!

At my school, alternates are often called an hour before the first day of class!

Whoa! That's ridiculous, but I guess necessary if some people drop out at the last minute. One of my classmates dropped out after 1 or 2 weeks to go somewhere closer to home. I was sad because we were too far along for them to call someone on the waiting list who might've really wanted to get in. :(

Yep, its because people drop out at literally the last second. I often wonder if they do it on purpose...

Also, at the admissions interview, alternates are asked if it would be a problem for them to be called at the last second. They can also be called up to a week after classes begin.
