Prncesslaur--they would/provisionally accept you. I was accepted to "pre-achieve" last year until I finished my prereqs--which I decided to stay and take at CCP b/c it was cheaper. I'd say go for it--it's worth a shot. :)

I did apply to LaSalle, as my back-up plan. They sent me an acceptance as an 'intending' nursing student. Looks like my back-up plan is becoming my new plan. I am just hoping that the 4 credits don't hold me back. I am registered for this fall for 3 classes (9 credits) and then that would be done and over with in December, but I don't know if that it cutting it too close. Plus what if there are alot of other applicants with everything done and complete....then I'm screwed again. I'm thinking LaSalle is better because you get your BSN. Your going to LaSalle right?? Main or Bucks? I'm thinking the main campus is more popular. You turned down Abington?? I'll go wherever at this point. I'll say yes to the first bidder...haha.

Yes, I'm going to LSU--Main campus. I gave up the Abington spot b/c I just couldn't wrap my head around going to school for 2 yrs and just getting a diploma, when I could go for an extra semester and get my BSN. I want to get my MSN and if I'd went the Abington route I'd end up doing more school (bridge programs and whatnot).

I actually need two more classes--a second level philosophy and Spanish. I'm taking the Phil with my first set of nursing courses and I think I'm going to Clep out of the Spanish. Call Kristin/Cara (or whoever your contact is) and see what your options are...

It all depends on what works best for you. I have to work during the day throughout school, so that eliminated most programs for me. If I had been able to go to a fulltime day program, I would probably have chosen a BSN program, too.

However, at Abington I get significant clinical hours at an excellant hospital, and evening/weekend program. If I can get the rest of my pre-requisites finished and get into an 18 month RN to MSN bridge after I get my RN. It'll still take longer than a 4 year BSN program, but it is more doable for me.

That's exactly why I chose LSU over Abington--I have to continue working myself. But with the ACHIEVE program I'll be getting my BSN and it's an eve/weekend program.

Yes, Gwynedd's weekend nursing program is for those with a bachelors degree, the program starts Aug. 22nd this fall semester.

Onedayattatime: Since you also still have more courses to complete as well, and you're starting in the fall (i believe the main campus starts in the fall) then you are making me feel better. Bucks doesn't start until January and I would be done these courses right before starting at LSU. I agree with you, an extra semester is worth getting a BSN. See I too have to work full-time during the day. So my only option is an evening/weekend program. I also have a 3-yr-old son, that in itself is another full-time job. I know this is going to be hard, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do. My only concern is tuition costs, there is a big difference between Abington and LSU and supposedly Abington helps you out more than LSU. So what have had to do so far since you've been accepted??

mcolli02: Thanks for the info, but I don't have a bachelors....so I'm stuck.

Trigirl:How long have you been in Abington's program? How do you like it? Where else did you apply to?

LSU actually doesn't cost as much as you would think. Remember--it's a PART-TIME eve/weekend program...so you're not paying that crazy fulltime day tuition...I got a full financial package from LSU, and should actually get about a $5000 refund--per semester. So not bad. Abington on the other hand already sent me a bill for over $1000...they seem to only credit your grants, and you get your loans later but in the meantime you're expected to come out of pocket...

I have three kids--one with special needs...I have bills--mortgage, car note, utilities, etc...so I feel your pain about it being hard--but we can do it! :)

Prncesslaur,

I will be entering Abington's program in the fall. I am really excited and keep marking down the days on the calender (and driving my boyfriend crazy). Don't worry - your day will come at whichever school you choose. I didn't apply anywhere else; I put all my eggs in one basket! Since early decision lets you know before January I still had time to apply elsewhere if I didn't get in.

Among the factors you may want to consider is the first time pass rate for the NCLEX.

Regarding payment - Abington applies your grants as soon as they come in. Your loans are applied later, but as long as they know that they are coming (and they do since the student loan has to go through them), they don't require any payment for tuition except what is not covered by loans & grants. You still would have to cover books and supplies, but I think that is true no matter where you go.

So with LSU, you still have to pay out of pocket I'm assuming since you're saying you will get a refund. What exactly is the refund for? Does LSU give out any awards, or you're expected to fill out your Fasfa and find scholarships on your own? Does your work have tuition reimbursement?? Mine does, thank goodness. I just read on LSU's website that it's around $25,000 for the program and I think Abington's will be around $18,000. It's not as big as a difference as I thought it might be. LSU is the only one that sent me an acceptance...well kinda. It said congrats you've been accepted as an intending nursing student....so I really need to think about going there. I sent in my rollover request for Abington for 2010, and I'm thinking about applying to Harcum still and their is diploma also and nights/evening classes for only 18mths.

Wow, yea you have alot more going on then I do...but I'm sure you can handle it.
