Hello everyone, Im new to this site. Im interested in hearing from prospective Abington DSON students. Has anyone received their acceptance letter for eve/weekend 2009 regular decision. Please let me knw. Thanks
No, I don't have to pay anything out of pocket. The refund I mentioned is when you are awarded more FA than you need and they send you a check for the overage. Which I usually use for other expenses or to pay back things I might have charged to a credit card before school started (books, uniforms, etc). LSU has scholarships, and I also won an outside private scholarship.
Abington is a great school--trust me it still pains me that I rescinded my acceptance. The people there are awesome and after I gave them the notice they called me and wanted to know what happened--they seem really student-oriented. But basically you just have to do what's best for you--a BSN was very important to me. But who knows...a little birdie told me that Abington may be finalizing a co-articulation agreement with a BSN program...so maybe you can get your first pick school and a BSN...
Best of luck!
Oh ok, that sounds good to me. I am starting to hope that LSU officially accepts me. I want to get in and get done. Not that I don't care where I go, because I do. I just can't stand waiting any longer....and what if I get waitlisted again. I don't have a 4.0, but I'm not too far from it. I just don't want to miss out any opportunity that comes my way. Congrats on your scholarship, every little bit helps. I need to get some kind of scholarships though to help me pay for school though. I did my fasfa already and LSU's website said that they have some forms for scholarships....and I'm sure that there are some websites out there for them also. Any suggestions?? I didn't know that if you get awarded more FA than you need you get a refund. But it comes in handy I see.
Do you know what your gpa pre-requisites needs to be for LSU? I really want to go, but I got a "C" in A&P 1. I was 9 nine months pregnant at the end of the semester and missed a few classes because of swollen feet/legs. My college where I am at does not have ramps or elevators and all of my classes were on the 3rd floor. Should I repeat A&P if I can't get my grade changed?
Your overall science needs to be a 3.0. I took micro awhile ago at Temple and got a C+--so obviously that didn't hold me back--but I also have an A in all the other sciences. It's really up to you whether or not you want to repeat it. But the higher it is, the more competitive it will make you.
PrncessLaur,
Haha - a 4.0 GPA? I wish that were true. I don't know what Abington uses as their metrics, but I did apply as soon as I had the required prerequisites for early admission and I'm told they admit on a "first come first serve" policy.
LaSalle has a lot of things going for it and I was looking at their RN-to-BSN/MSN bridge programs if OneDayAttaTime's little birdie doesn't come through in time :). Good luck you guys and remember that the only thing that matters in the end are two little letters - RN. They are a larger school, so I'd think they'd have better facilities and programs for commuting students.
The point I'm at now...I'll say yes to whomever accepts me first. I can't stress anymore than I already am. I'm stressing that LaSalle won't fully accept me because of needing 4 more credits and worried that I'll get waitlisted again by Abington. Whatever happens, happens...I guess. I'm just so anxious...I even e-mailed LSU about the credit completion situation. Praying that they allow me to finish the rest in the fall at my current school and still get in for this Spring.
Actually, I'm trying not to worry to much about that. Nursing school is what you make of it. I think LSU's poorer NCLEX pass rate is due to the fact that they don't have an integrated NCLEX review program. They just "strongly recommend that students take a NCLEX-RN Review Course before taking the NCLEX-RN licensure examination"--but it's not part of their program. Some people may elect not to take one (and God only knows why you wouldn't) maybe because they think since they did well on the school's exams they'll be fine, or some may take a review course, but not a very good one.
On the other hand, a lot of the other nursing programs integrate NCLEX review into the curriculum--as in, you can't progress to the next course until you've adequately "passed" whatever their measure is. By doing this, you will never make it to the NCLEX unless you (a) know your stuff and (b) are comfortable and with the NCLEX/question format etc.
So I for one will be taking things into my own hands and studying for the NCLEX from day one. I'm planning on getting one of the review books that break it down by topic so that after we cover a subject in class I can go to that section in my review book and get familiar with the types of questions, how they will be formatted (etc.) that I should expect see on the NCLEX. There are also many study guides/aids that I can download for my iPhone3G so I can study on the go. Then at the end of it all, I'm still going to take the best NCLEX review course I can find.

Trigirl: Congrats on getting accepted...it probably is a really exciting time for you. I would be the same way. So you got accepted for the year and schedule that you wanted and no wait listing??? You must have a 4.0 GPA or know someone there....haha I heard that Abington is just so hard to get into, that thousands apply and like only some get interviews and then only a total of 132 get accepted. My friend has been waited two years in a row now and is depressed...Abington is my first choice, but I'm worried that I'll get waitlisted again and miss out a opportunity somewhere else. LSU pre-accepted me and now I'm really confused.....I just want to get done and be a nurse.
