Abington Dixon SON : Waiting for my letter

Published

Hello everyone, Im new to this site. Im interested in hearing from prospective Abington DSON students. Has anyone received their acceptance letter for eve/weekend 2009 regular decision. Please let me knw. Thanks

i already purchased the nclex reveiw book, and plan to use this througout our nursing studies...but i understood that when a school nclex rates is not too good, then they could lose their accreditation...that has me concerned! and ive kind of wondered why their not NLN accredited like other schools.....also ive heard, (not sure how true) that the achieve students dont do as well as the day students on the nclex....

oneday, just pm'd u...

This is also a concern of mine. Abington has an outstanding pass rate. but it seems hospitals are requiring a BSN to get hired (unless you work at abington itself)..

Exactly! Trust me, I am still sick about giving up my spot at Abington--I know it's a great program and they're NCLEX pass rate has consistently been in the 90's. But I really, really, really wanted/needed that BSN and that was the thing that pushed me over. For it to be a "nursing shortage" new grads seem to be having an awfully hard time getting jobs and a BSN will make me that much more of a competitive candidate. And you're right, the job market seems to be shifting toward primarily desiring to hire BSN-prepared nurses.

i noticed that hospitals want not only BSN, but NLN accredited schools...such as CHOP!

Well I already work at CHOP, so I already got a foot in there--so I'm hoping that won't be a problem lol. But who knows--we may get in LSU and raise the bar! :pumpiron:

Maybe they will get their NLN accreditation before we graduate...

silly me, i wasn't even aware LSU wasn't NLN accredited darn!...i may do drexel or thomas jeff

From the research that I've been doing, one isn't better than the other. In fact, it seems that many schools are switching over to CCNE. CCNE only accredits BSN and above programs, that's why you won't see that accreditation at diploma or ADN schools like Abington or CCP. NLN is just older and therefore more well known (which doesn't necessarily make it better)... :thnkg:

So now I'm not worried about this whole NLN/CCNE thing at all... Maybe LSU is ahead of the game lol. They have also been granted CCNE accreditation for ten years (until 2014)--the longest stretch of time you can be awarded that accreditation. Now we need to get in there and raise those NCLEX scores! :grad:

i see your 28, my age, i was so discouraged at getting into a demanding (school wise) career at this age. but knew it was worth it. i want my MSN when all is said and done... i'll be pushing 40 but its worth it! how long did it take you to do the prereq.?

See with me, I tried it when I was younger, but the time wasn't right--I wasn't ready. I had too much going on, that was when my daughter was being diagnosed with autism...I was going to Temple and my grades sucked. I just went back to school in 2007--and now I have a 4.0 GPA.

I want my MSN as well--in pediatric critical care--I'd like to work in the NICU (I'm already working as a volunteer there now). Who knows, I might even go for my DNP. I'll be 30 when I get my BSN, and 32ish when I get my MSN--depending on if I go full or part-time. It's really not that long...

As far as my prereqs--didn't take that long--depends on for what school--for instance Abington has half the prereqs at LSU--so I have been done Abby's prereqs but am just finishing up LSU's. I took most of them online, only going to campus for labs. When I chose my classes, I tried to pick ones that would be accepted at all of the programs that I was applying to--so that I wasn't "wasting" any credits...

ah i see...yeah if i do drexel (5 yrs to get done bsn with coop mim 4 years) ill be kinda up there, i am just starting my prereq september! so i will be up there! LSU does have a laundry list of prereq sheez...im at CCP doing prereq. and like you, im glad i can do most of them online!

i ruled out the diploma programs so I am considering , Drexel, Thomas Jefferson, and LaSalle...

.....though ice been told to 'just' do a diploma program pass nclex.. and do a online rn-bsn program... less money and time or so i hear..."AHH this is all so confusing"!!!
