I know Registered Nurses earn a pretty good salary. Is it true that hospitals start you off with a $50,000 or more ?

22/ hr in New Jersey...new grad

New grad position I just got is around $27.60/ hr or so (plus differential for evening, nights and weekends). I had a bit of sticker shock, due to my classmates (in San Diego, though) making around $35/ hr to start, and we just relocated to DC, so I figured the salaries would be comparable. I'm fine with it, though- I'm fortunate to get a job, and for the area, it's one of the highest new grad salaries.

Specializes in Telemetry.

just graduated in may, suburb of chicago.... $24/hr, with $4 pm diff, $6 noc diff

Specializes in Ortho, Case Management, blabla.

You consider $50,000 a good salary for a professional?

ha ha ha

It really does depend on where you live to determine what is a "good" salary. In my town, $50,000 is amazing. I worked at a hospital for a only a few weeks...on nights was getting a little over $16!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't do staff nursing anymore. This is in TN by the way.

RE: Post by NONE THE WISER

Well if that's what thay are paying RN IN SC that's not good at all. I'm an LPN and a new grad and i make $20.00hr. I also live in SC Rock Hill area.

Specializes in PICU; NICU.

I'm happy with my new grad salary. Although I kind of knew what to expect prior to graduation from looking at threads on this site.

Atlanta area- $23.20/hour base and $5.00/hour night diff

Specializes in Geriatrics/Retirement Residence.

I'm just starting NS in 10 days!() But I found out how much RNs make in Ontario, it's a good salary, but I'm sure they earn every penny!

In Ontario, Canada:

Entry level RNs make $29.36/h as of April 1, 2010. The standard full time RN hours are 1950 hours per year, so it comes to $57,252/year if you work full time. Source: http://www/ona.org.faq

(But here as of 2005, all new RNs are required to have a BSN!)

As per current agreement (valid from April 1, 2008 to March 31, 2011) yearly salary increases for Ontario RNs is 3% per year, so if these 3% increases continue...:D by the time I'm RN in 2015 my full time salary will be $66,370.76/year working 1950hrs/year, which comes to $34.04/hr to start. :D And I can tell you right now that I am VERY satisfied with my future salary! :D

Practical Nurses (2 years Community College education) make about $22/h in Toronto, Canada (as of 2007. I don't have any more current info, although I hear some people say it's anywhere for $22/h to $27/h nowdays  It depends...Hospitals pay closer to $27/h, LTC pays closer to $22/h.

Northern CA- $47/HR starting for day shift. Cost of living is reasonable if u do your research.

That's what I like to hear/read. NYC is also an expensive area, but if you know where to live, you'll save much cash.

Specializes in acute care.

For a profession with a minimum requirement of an Associates Degree, $50,000 is darn good.

Only if you put in the minimum and got an Associates Degree.

Specializes in Trauma, Burn, Crticial Care.

Many opportunities await in the DC metro area. The cost of living is high but salaries are out there...and openings for new grads. You would make 50k-60k starting out easily. Housing options exist in VA and Maryland too.
