A pre-req of a pre-req of a pre-req

Hello all,

Just seeing if anyone else has had this happen and if there is any way around it other than just patience and time.

I'm starting pre-requisites for an accelerated BSN program and currently working full time and would love to quit to go to school full time and speed up the process but it seems that I am limited to taking only 2 pre-requisites at a time each semester because I can't take microbio without general bio or advanced chem without general chem or a&p1 or 2 without microbio and can't take nutrition without both A&Ps done. The list goes on.

I figured I'd just keep working full time, going to school part time until my pre-reqs are done but at this rate they will take 2 years!

Has anyone else had this happen? Is 2 years a feasible time for pre-reqs for an ABSN program?

If only I actually knew what I wanted to do at 18 and spent my 4 years of college studying nursing!

Any info is appreciated thanks!

i'm gettind my associates and by the time i start the program i will have spent 1 1/2 years on pre reqs and gen eds (taking 13 credit hours a semester). i know how it feels to just want to get in! in the long run 2 years isn't a horrible amount of time. It'll fly by. Good Luck

Some people have said that they asked for and were granted exceptions to policy or waivers of requirements. I've received waivers due to special circumstances in the past. Just go see your counselor in the admin/regist department and do the paperwork. You might be able to swing it. Good luck.

Uggg... I know what you mean. I work full time and can only take 2 classes per semester too. It is going to take me forever before I get my pre-reqs done, but I keep telling myself that "slow and steady wins the race." If I keep chipping away at them it will happen eventually. Not soon enough, but eventually. Good luck!

I am starting my prereqs this fall and it's going to take me two years as well and that is only IF I take a math class and intro to Chemistry next summer, but I am not sure yet.

I have just figured out it's going to take me two years, too! I'll be finished with pre-req's in Spring of 2011 and I'll be applying in Fall of 2011 for spring of 2012 acceptance.

I think we should start groups or something for those who will start their application times during different semesters and years. It could be fun to see the progress.

Yep,

Same thing here, working full time taking 2 pre-req classes a semester. I started summer 08 and will finish my last 2 classes spring 2010. I had to take 2 non credit math classes which were pre-reqs to intermediate algebra which was a pre-req to biology. Now I have to pass biology which is a pre-req to all the other science classes.....sheez:bugeyes:

It really does go by fast, I can't believe I have knocked out 8 classes by the end of this semester. Just get started and the rest will follow.

I talked an advisor into letting me into three classes (Math, Spanish, & Chem) that I didn't have the pre-reqs met for. It ends up being luck of the draw on how nice the advisor is and how well you can plead your case but it worked in my situation!

I like this idea! On my current plan, I will be *hopefully* able to apply to the program for the Spring of 2011. Seems like it is a long ways away!

To the OP, I agree with some of the others, maybe you can talk with an advisor and see if there are ways around it. Some professors will let you around those.

I like the idea as well! If I stay on track I wil be able to apply in the spring of 2011 and then I would start fall of 2011.

Great idea! as long as I stay on my current track, I will be able to apply spring 2010 for Fall 2010. :yeah:

It took me 2.5 years to finish all my general education courses and prereqs and I will be starting the nursing program this fall. So two years isn't so bad. I know it feels long but the wait makes you appreciate it so much more. Just keep yourself busy with school and time will fly by. I still can't believe that I have just two years left of school and before you know it you'll have that same feeling.

Shop around in your community college or state u system. You'll find different schools have different policies. e.g. Some require gen bio before you can sign up for A&P others don't. Some require bio and chem for micro - others will let you into micro with just the bio. If you have a prior bachelor's some schools will give you a waiver on quite a few things. Also out what you can test into (or out of) and use clep credit if your school will accept it. These types of things can speed up the prereq chase.
