Hello all,
Just seeing if anyone else has had this happen and if there is any way around it other than just patience and time.
I'm starting pre-requisites for an Accelerated BSN program and currently working full time and would love to quit to go to school full time and speed up the process but it seems that I am limited to taking only 2 pre-requisites at a time each semester because I can't take microbio without general bio or advanced chem without general chem or a&p1 or 2 without microbio and can't take nutrition without both A&Ps done. The list goes on.
I figured I'd just keep working full time, going to school part time until my pre-reqs are done but at this rate they will take 2 years!
Has anyone else had this happen? Is 2 years a feasible time for pre-reqs for an ABSN program?
If only I actually knew what I wanted to do at 18 and spent my 4 years of college studying nursing!
Any info is appreciated thanks!
Well it's nice to hear that so many people are in the same boat! I did speak to my school and got waived from the alg classes needed for the chem class so that is something atleast! I shadowed an anesthetist yesterday and it made me want it that much more! 2 years for pre-reqs it is. I love the idea of getting a group together and tracking our progress. I'm starting my first 2 classes in September with the hope of applying for ABSN school in Fall of 2011. So far to go! Good luck all!
Heck, I have already been taking prereqs for the past two years and it will probably take (at the longest) TWO MORE YEARS for me to finish the four prereqs I have left. This is because I work 40+ hours a week and have only been able to take 1 class at a time. However, I have knocked out 5 classes thus far and so I am over halfway done with the prereqs :yeah:LOL!!!!
The positive in this is that although it is taking me what seems like FOREVER to get through the prereqs, I am maintaining a straight A average which (at least I hope) will provide me with very good chances of not being wait listed when I do FINALLY get to the point in which I can apply. Keep goin and remember that you are not alone in this.

Shop around in your community college or state u system. You'll find different schools have different policies. e.g. Some require gen bio before you can sign up for A&P others don't. Some require bio and chem for micro - others will let you into micro with just the bio. If you have a prior bachelor's some schools will give you a waiver on quite a few things. Also out what you can test into (or out of) and use clep credit if your school will accept it. These types of things can speed up the prereq chase.
