A payroll card instead of a check???

Nurses General Nursing

:confused:Hi everyone, I have a question. I am going to have a temp job with this agency that gives flu shot assignments to nurses in different States/cities. Their payroll method is something that I have never heard of. Has anyone ever been paid by "Mastercard Payroll card" before?? It seems like they would not issue a check and instead issue the card that I just mentioned. Before giving any information to receive a Mastercard payroll card, I was hoping I could find someone who has been paid through this method before. Please respond if you know anything about it.

Thank you so much.

You caould also use the card to pay your bills. As for fees, you already are paying fees to use your money that is deposited into your bank account.

I most certainly do not, my bank has no checking or transaction fees.

No fees here either and I use three different banks.:lol2:

Most of my bills, like my mortgage and car payment are direct withdrawal. I would really dislike having to deposit a debit card that did charge me fees so I could simply pay my bills.

The places I have worked that offered a card like that offered it as an alternative for.those without checking accounts. It`s then a really good idea because you have access and the choice to have a card to use if needed/desired. Yes, if you need cash, you get.charged an atm fee but if you dont have a checking account, you`d be paying a fee to cash a check anyways

As an option I don't have any issue with this, but as a the only option is what I am at odds with.

To let people who've been at the mercy of check cashing rape artists this is fantastic!

I object to this - the "gift card" feel of it.

Pay me my money. What I do with it is my business, whether I let it sit in the bank, pay bills, invest it, buy stuff, give it away as gifts, stuff it under the mattress or wallpaper my living room with it.

These cards ... are set up to buy stuff. I need money, not stuff.

This is like going back 100+ years to the days of being paid in scrip, only good at the company store.

I agree! Using it for groceries or at the mall would be fine and dandy. But what about people that have bills to pay? I'd have to go to an ATM, pay a fee to access the money, then go deposit the money into my checking account, and then finally pay my bills? No, I wouldn't be happy.

My daughter pays her bills with the card online, and there are no fees to transfer funds from the card to her checking or savings accounts.

This is exactly what I thought when I read the OP. It reminds me of the old mill towns in the South.

i worked for a company that used a payroll card instead of checks. the company that issues the card gave us the option to get generic checks associated with the account. every payday i just wrote a check to myself for the full the full amount of my paycheck and deposited it into my personal bank account. no extra fees. no problems. i hope this helps.

My bank has "no fee, no minimum balance."

My daughter was a bartender at a chain known as Applebees and that is how they were paid. She loved it.

I'm pretty sure I know the exact company you are working for and I recently got offered a job from them as well. I opted for the direct deposit option instead of the payroll card because I was unsure as to whether I could use that card to withdraw cash from an ATM. If this is the correct company that I'm thinking of (First name starts with an M) than they should have a direct deposit option which you may be more comfortable with.

unless you have an account like i do. pay checks have to be direct deposited, if not after 3 or so they charge a fee.
