A payroll card instead of a check???

Published

:confused:Hi everyone, I have a question. I am going to have a temp job with this agency that gives flu shot assignments to nurses in different States/cities. Their payroll method is something that I have never heard of. Has anyone ever been paid by "Mastercard Payroll card" before?? It seems like they would not issue a check and instead issue the card that I just mentioned. Before giving any information to receive a Mastercard payroll card, I was hoping I could find someone who has been paid through this method before. Please respond if you know anything about it.

Thank you so much.

I just want to thank all of you who responded to my post on a payroll card. I got lots of good information and it has been very helpful. I'm so glad I have access to this website and thanks again everyone for sharing your information with me.

I will not willingly go with a method that requires fees for transactions and where the remainder of the balance will not be tendered by most entities. These cards are a convenient way for someone to make money off the schmuck who gets stuck with them.

i worked for a company that used a payroll card instead of checks. the company that issues the card gave us the option to get generic checks associated with the account. every payday i just wrote a check to myself for the full the full amount of my paycheck and deposited it into my personal bank account. no extra fees. no problems. i hope this helps.

that's a good option, but still. you're having to take extra steps just to get your money with going to the bank and making a deposit. i don't think it's right.

You caould also use the card to pay your bills. As for fees, you already are paying fees to use your money that is deposited into your bank account.

Pretty sure my mortgage company and the bank that holds my car loan do not take credit cards. ;) And you can't pay a credit card bill with another credit card. So with the exception of maybe my utilities and car insurance, I would need a checking account to pay my bills.

And no, I'm not paying fees for my checking account. And actually, that's free because I DO have direct deposit.

My daughter was a bartender at a chain known as Applebees and that is how they were paid. She loved it.

You just reminded me..my brother works for Olive Garden and that's how they are paid also..But he's a poor college student with no bills so he loves it.

I am just a nursing student, but I was paid with one of these at a former job. I have to say, as a whole, I hated it. First off, it just doesn't seem like you're getting paid, it feels like you're getting a gift card. And yes, if you have any type of savings/checking account (which everyone needs) then YOU have to take the extra step (and pay the fees) to have the money x'fered to your account. If it is the same type of card we were issued, the fees are pretty standard (50 cents for debit charges, 3.50 for ATM withdraws).

I believe the company gets some sort of kickback from the cc.

If you're okay with it, well, you're okay with it. If not, tell them you want DD or at least a paper check. They may not like it, but I bet they'll do it.

basically it sounds like they pay you on to a 'pre paid' debit card, which you can then use , no doubt there's some kick back from the card provider in terms of the fees they are are(n't) paying compared to issuing cheques or doing EFT runs in everyone's different bank accounts ...
