A Nurse CAN be both sexy & smart

I am skipping a bunch of posts so I'm not sure if someone said this already: I think the biggest problem may be nurses' portrayal by the media. Nurses are portrayed as sex objects or as physicians' handmaidens on TV and movies and no one understands what we actually do. People do not know that nurses are educated professionals, work independently from physicians, are both men AND women, and are not sex objects. Once people understand health care and what nurses do I think nurses will be treated better and respected more.

It does not have to be an either or situation.Dowdy does not always equate to smart.

A nurse can be both smart/educated professional and sexy as heck!:yeah:

Why does one taking care of oneself lead to the dumbo comment? You can't hide sex appeal. So yup, nurses can have it both ways.

Three cheers for sexy smart nurses:up:

I am young, smart, sexy, and professional but no not a sex object. That is reserved for my bedroom not the workplace.

holy ****, batman.:smackingf

indeed, i did (skewer interpretation).

all my life, i have believed sexy/sexiness was the definition of sex appeal, specifically about the confidence, etc.

and that sex appeal was all physical.

dang dang dang dang dang.

ok katie, i concede , until i research this further.

still, you needn't be so acerbic in your posts.;)

btw, where did you get your sources from?

Noted. I critique and sometimes the lines do blur.

Please do your research and let us know- it's no fun if we all share the same opinions.

Oh yes, you can. As long as you kiss both of your biceps and say that you were arrested at the airport for carrying a concealed weapon (a scrub tech that I work with does this, and we just ROTFL), give us a "index finger gun shot" and then blow on the barrel. (Oh and don't forget to wink.) That is SOOO sexy! :uhoh3:

Well......there goes my game...

Sexy is something you can't turn off.....but you can use it to prove that there is such a thing as being smart and sexy@ the same time :))))

before i do, i'd like to know your sources, so i can read those first.

There is a balance somewhere between dowdy and trashy . .although I've never seen a nurse who could actually make scrubs look trashy - say by knotting the top on one side to show your belly-button studs, chains and what-have-you.

Seriously! Suppose you are trying to show off the ta-tas -- if there's a scrub top with a plunging neckline I'd certainly like to know about it!

I'd say fictional character Calleigh Duquesne (Emily Procter) of CSI:Miami has it about right. :)

There was a student in one of my classes who had the need to show her ta-ta's every day of class in those plunging necklines... I looked forward to clinicals to not have to see them (I'm a girl, I have my own to look at). But I swear, she searched high and low to find that one scrub top that could show what she had! I'm not sure where she got them but they certainly do exist!

Regardless of whether sexy belongs in the workplace.... If youre seriously sexy, , , well you just cant hide it.... Im a "male" nurse intern and my god some of the girls I work with are incredible.. They all dress respectful and proper.... But they just ooze sexiness....

Maybe Im just a pervert..... Either way, theres my 10 cents..

OK, Irish I wanna' know....From a male point of view, why do you consider them to be sexy, even when they're dressed "properly" and don't act like a trashy, thong wearing Barbie fool??

It's ironic though that most are fat and ugly (but smart).

wow, kudos on how to be insulting to thousands and thousands of fat, ugly nurses! Even I took offense to that one......I didn't realize that the majority of nurses here on AN or in practice, are fat and ugly...I'll be sure to watch out for that! ;)

Cheer up, you are good cougar age (meeeoooowww)!

Just kidding. Couldn't help myself. Please don't be offended.

s'ok patient...I got the humor!

Yes, but do you do the "index finger gun thing???" That's the stuff that has all the women in the workplace panting! LOL...Just can't get canes example out of my head!!!

A Nurse CAN be both sexy & smart

I seen this thread and i just have to post. They sure can. How do i know you ask. Well I look darn good in scrubs and my brains. I'm like freaking MacGyver when it comes to all the tech stuff. And 9-10 Nurse's will tell you I'm the Man with the plan. But behind the Big Arms and My Washboard Stomach that i work my butt off for.

If you were to ask my wife I'm just a big kid at heart. And really It's not your looks It's what you have inside that counts. If a person is confident in their own skin and they know whats up and not try to impress but when they walk in to a room with out a word people know they are there. And when they speak it's not to impress but to teach and inform ... Now that's Hot and Sexy and Smart with out the hip hugging scrubs get it.... Anthony

Ps.. Before you all think I'm stuck on myself look deeper with in the message there's a method to my madness... Anthony

Well......there goes my game...

I'm surprised it took someone this long to respond to this. An honest response to a stupid played out topic.

I apologize for not including 'in my practice' in my statement. I wouldn't say anybody is fat/ugly on this board as I've never seen anybody. Furthermore , in all honesty I could really care less if a nurse is fat/ugly or smart/sexy. Some of my best workplace friends are 'fat and ugly' but wicked intelligent and we get along wonderfully since I don't categorize ppl I meet or inyeract with. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I know what category I fit in and proud of it but don't feel the need to flaunt it or let any of it ooze out at work since I'm professional.

Some of my single co-workers definitely think they're the cats meow in their tight scrubs and 2 lbs of makeup but really they're dumb as a box of rocks just trolling for a doctor. I know they *think* they're 'sexy' but all I see is trashy.
