I am skipping a bunch of posts so I'm not sure if someone said this already: I think the biggest problem may be nurses' portrayal by the media. Nurses are portrayed as sex objects or as physicians' handmaidens on TV and movies and no one understands what we actually do. People do not know that nurses are educated professionals, work independently from physicians, are both men AND women, and are not sex objects. Once people understand health care and what nurses do I think nurses will be treated better and respected more.
It does not have to be an either or situation.Dowdy does not always equate to smart.
A nurse can be both smart/educated professional and sexy as heck!
Why does one taking care of oneself lead to the dumbo comment? You can't hide sex appeal. So yup, nurses can have it both ways.
Three cheers for sexy smart nurses:up:
Boy if she was a man, this would be looked at as "sexual harrassment," which my opinion it is *especially if its continous behavior, which it sounds like). "You just wanted to see me on my knees..." WTH! Very inappropriate and uncomfortable for anyone around.

It was EXCEEDINGLY uncomfortable. You are so right--this kind of comment would have a man thrown out before he could finish the case! I wonder why this nurse is able to get away with it?
Can I be sexy too?
Oh yes, you can. As long as you kiss both of your biceps and say that you were arrested at the airport for carrying a concealed weapon (a scrub tech that I work with does this, and we just ROTFL), give us a "index finger gun shot" and then blow on the barrel. (Oh and don't forget to wink.) That is SOOO sexy!
I think a classy, confident woman can be considered sexy, that is, if she doesn't flaunt it and isn't conceited! It's all about the way you carry yourself! I think Cindy Crawford is classy sexy. Whereas, I think Heidi klum is more of the flaunty 'I know I'm sexy' type of person which to me is a total turn off. modesty is a much better way of showing your sex appeal if you think your are sexy.
Very nice examples! I think that Padma (sp?) from Top Chef exudes sexy confidence without being over the top. Classy and intelligent women are sexy no matter what they look like. Same goes for men.
There is a balance somewhere between dowdy and trashy . .although I've never seen a nurse who could actually make scrubs look trashy - say by knotting the top on one side to show your belly-button studs, chains and what-have-you.
Seriously! Suppose you are trying to show off the ta-tas -- if there's a scrub top with a plunging neckline I'd certainly like to know about it!
I'd say fictional character Calleigh Duquesne (Emily Procter) of CSI:Miami has it about right. :)

I wish you were kidding, but somehow I know you are not:eek:
Sexy doesn't necessarily have to be the clothes you wear or your outward appearance. There are many qualities that can be sexy...intelligence & a caring attitude being 2...doing your job & knowing the rationales behind everything that you do is another...If it oozes out @ the workplace, then I'm not mad @ ya. I don't see anything wrong with it. To quote a saying that I once heard, "I don't hate, I appreciate!" Kudos to all of you sexy nurses out there with the brains & know how to back it all up. :yeah:
"If the light that's shining on me is too bright...get some shades"
A Nurse CAN be both sexy & smart
I seen this thread and i just have to post. They sure can. How do i know you ask. Well I look darn good in scrubs and my brains. I'm like freaking MacGyver when it comes to all the tech stuff. And 9-10 Nurse's will tell you I'm the Man with the plan. But behind the Big Arms and My Washboard Stomach that i work my butt off for.
If you were to ask my wife I'm just a big kid at heart. And really It's not your looks It's what you have inside that counts. If a person is confident in their own skin and they know whats up and not try to impress but when they walk in to a room with out a word people know they are there. And when they speak it's not to impress but to teach and inform ... Now that's Hot and Sexy and Smart with out the hip hugging scrubs get it.... Anthony
Ps.. Before you all think I'm stuck on myself look deeper with in the message there's a method to my madness... Anthony
A sex OBJECT is not the same thing as being sexy.
Sigh. Reading is fundamental.Do tell! Where in the above quote, did you infer your conclusion?
i believe she must be referring to your op, where you posted, "You can't hide sex appeal."
a sex object can exude sex appeal, but not sexiness.
big difference.
reading is fundamental.

holy ****, batman.:smackingf
indeed, i did (skewer interpretation).
all my life, i have believed sexy/sexiness was the definition of sex appeal, specifically about the confidence, etc.
and that sex appeal was all physical.
dang dang dang dang dang.
ok katie, i concede , until i research this further.
still, you needn't be so acerbic in your posts.
btw, where did you get your sources from?

I live in the state of Mississippi in the USA. If you have an Irish accent and were to move to my area you would probably have to beat back the women with a stick.
