Hi everyone -
Just wanted to announce that on July 25 at 9:17 pm, we welcomed our beautiful baby daughter Miriam into the world. As most of you know, we planned a homebirth, and she was born in the water with the assistance of midwives. Labor lasted about 14 hours, which wasn't too bad. Intense, but manageable. I only begged to go to the hospital for an epidural once. :) (My husband said no. :) :) )
Unlike last time, where I pushed for 4.5 hours, this little one was born in ONE push. It was absolutely unbelievable. Within an hour after the birth, she and I were safely tucked into bed, and I was chowing down on rice and beans.
She was 8 lbs 9 oz and 20 1/2 inches long. Came out rooting and is a champion nurser, thank God.
It was our very own little miracle, and we are thankful all is well. My son David announced that she was a girl and cut the cord. He also donned a pair of gloves and helped examine the placenta and umbilical cord. (The pictures are hysterical.)
I figured some of you were wondering why I wasn't on the boards b*tching and moaning about my various passions.
With kind regards,
Alison and Baby Miriam

I am awaiting my possible witness to my 1st homebirth w/a friend/mom that is due w/#3 any day (her MW is a friend of mine also). I hope I get to be there & have the opportunity to share a special birth story like yours!

Welcome, Miriam! (what a lovely name!) So glad you had a wonderful, memorable HOME birth.
In my part of the country home births are not well accepted, so to hear about a wonderful experience such as yours makes me feel a little jealous. Ah, the power of women!
