We started muscles yesterday in lecture. We are still on the skeleton in lab. Next week is midterms so I'm gearing up for that. But we have a quiz tomorrow in lab on the skeleton.I found this guy on youtube the other day and he is absolutely amazing. He does a very good job of explaining things and the way he draws and illustrates makes it a lot easier to understand how things fit together. I know we all have different learning styles. I'm more of a visual learner so things like this always help big time. I'm posting it in case it might help someone else.
Thanks for the link, mangopeach! I think they will really help me. Isn't youtube awesome? I wish I'd had it as a resource back in high school!
My A&P lab is quizzing over the skeleton and joints next week. I constantly feel like I'm behind and know nothing, but somehow my grades have been solid. The lecture is another story.. I still can't figure out what the professor is going to test on.
Some of my classmates are trying soooo hard, and their faces just drop when they get their grades each week. It's heartbreaking.
heres a great link from my professor sullivan.. she has blogs and stuff... i find it quite useful... http://anatomysullivan.wordpress.com/2010/02/
No problem Cassie, his illustrations were a big help to me, hopefully they help you as much. Yes, I agree those tutorials on youtube are great. They have been a big part of my study strategy. I'm a little behind in my reading as well. I've spent so much time learning the skeleton that I'm not up to date yet with the muscles chapter. I'm so glad we get a break after next week. I won't be enjoying the beach or any other spring break activity. I'll be catching up on my muscles and try to complete the next chapter after that so I'll be ahead when we return from Spring Break.
Reading all of your posts has me so discouraged. My anatomy professor has horrible reviews but despite that I don't feel like he is the be all and end all of bad professors, I think he is just old and a bit scatter-brained. Because of this some of the students in my class are taking major advantage of him. We are 6 weeks into class and we haven't even tested on the cell parts. We have a lab quiz just on the appearance of tissues on Tuesday, but not at all what they do, and then Thursday we have a test on the cell (pushed back a full week because every week the students freak out that they aren't ready yet and he gives in and pushes the test back). My class is pretty much being run by a bunch of lazy students who didn't take their prerequisites. I'm pretty upset. I've been struggling to pay out of pocket for my classes to avoid loans until a program starts and I feel like my money is going towards nothing. I work full time, volunteer 2 nights a week, have another class online, and have anatomy 2 nights a week and still manage to find the time to study a lot to get ready for these tests only to have them pushed back. Is anyone else still stuck in 'no mans land' because we are certainly not learning about the body parts!
Teapot, just keep studying. If you feel you've mastered this section, move on to the next. You don't have to wait for the Prof and the rest of the class. This might actually be an advantage for you. You'll have more time to grasp and learn the other chapters before the Prof gets there. And as mentioned before, there are lots of resources online, so if your prof is lacking. Check out some online sources.
Teapot, I am having the same problem. My classmates walk all over my lab professor so quizzes and even the midterm have been postponed for weeks! I'm not sure what he's thinking. He seems to understand that we need to cover this material, because he'll tack all the info for week 3 onto the postponed exam for week 2 which we don't actually take until week 4... etc etc etc. Very frustrating. I feel your pain.
Is your issue with the lab, lecture or both? In my case, lecture is more structured and thorough which (I hope) will keep me up to speed.
Anyhoo. I'm trying to decide if I should take my problem professor for A&P 2. The devil you know, or the devil you don't know....?
Surprisingly it's more so with lecture than with lab that we are behind. I think because we have a set lab schedule it seems to keep us on track whereas with lecture he never seems to catch up to lab. Going to a community college we are definitely lacking in resources also so many labs he just stands in the front of the class and does it as we watch because there aren't enough materials for all students. This school has a nursing program, and the NCLEX pass rates are in the high 90s so clearly these professors are doing something right. As of right now I just wish I could say we had even started on bones or learning what tissue appears where. Thank you all for your kind words. I plan on just moving ahead on my own time and learning the material myself with the help of other schools websites.

What school is this? I go to a community college and we not only have a cadaver lab but have three cycles of A&P going constantly, so I don't think this is a "community college" problem.
I don't think it is a "community college" problem as in all community colleges are like this. It's Philadelphia community college so I think it's an issue with funding and allocation of resources in a huge inner city school that caters to more students than it can probably handle while dealing with city budget cuts due to the recession also. I know classmates who are just biding time taking random classes to add credits because each semester the courses they need are full by day one of enrollment. That being said I don't think it is a bad school per say, the professors have all been kind and intelligent and seemed to actually care about their jobs. I just think that 75% of the student body is there for nursing and needs all the same courses which doesn't work out very well. Didn't mean to offend by saying it like that, not my intention at all. I just meant in comparison to an expensive private school ccp seems to have more trouble obtaining all of the materials they need for labs.
I had my mid term lab practical today. We don't get our grades back until Wednesday but I think I did really well. Thats a big chunk of my final grade so I'm happy that it went well for me. No rest for the weary though, got through the bones and survived, now I need to concentrate on all these muscles.
