A&P II: The Summer '05 Anatomy & Physiology Club

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Decided to go ahead and create a new thread...

I am taking A & P II at Valencia Community College in Orlando FL. We start May 12th...

I am an Online ASN Student at Deaconess College of Nursing in St Louis. I have taken a leave of absense for the summer so I will only be focusing on A & P. Guess I am not really a pre-nursing student, hope no one minds.

I am looking forward to sharing experiences!

So how many of you have had your first test? Easier or harder than A&P2?

I don't know if it was easier or harder for me, but definitely got my good grade of 37 out of 40. My instructor keeps on telling us the hard stuff is coming up, but don't know what can be that much more painful than the nervous system. Ugh.

We have taken 2 tests and 3 quizzes...I think I am averaging a high B right now. I have heard that the Endocrine System is challenging...we won't start that for a few more weeks.

Congrats on the good score for test one...hang in there...

Cheri :)

Sounds like more classes are kicking in...I finished up week 4 last night and so far I am enjoying it. We started with Blood, then went to Cardiovascular and Hemodynamics. Last night we started on the Lymphatic System. I am enjoying the "concepts" of A & P II over the "memorization" of A & P I.

Cheri :)

Totally agree with you about "concepts" instead of "memorization." Well I might not be doing much memorization becuase they messed up the schedule and I can't take Lab until the second summer session.

But I'm loving the cardiovascular system. Maybe because our instructor is giving us lots of related clinical info, since he used to do EKGs, stress tests and other tests.

Malia:)

May I ask which college you attend, your A&P schedule seems similar to mine :uhoh21: MSC here lol

.

You have a PM :)

I started A&PII May 16th, two days after my A&PI final :selfbonk: no break at all. So far it's going pretty good, I'm taking it online with Rio Salado college. My professor seems a little tough though, he graded my labs a little harder than my last professor. We've already completed the endocrine system and tomorrow I have blood due. I'm applying for nursing school on Monday, but the schools are so backed up I probably won't get in until at the very least, spring '06, probably fall '06 is more like it. I'm really looking forward to being done with my pre-req's, it's been a long journey. I look forward to chatting with all of you during this semester.

Congrats on your good grade too, keep it up!! I also agree on liking the A and P II far much better than A and P I. My teacher is great and he is very knowledgable on Hematology and Toxicology. It kind of relates to the blood, immune system we are covering. I am back to studying, test in 5 days coming up.

I start my online class tomorrow ( Lab is on campus). I already bought the powerpoints and they way they were laid out it looked like we started with blood...but I just got into my online class set up and we are starting with Digestive. Im actually looking forward to getting back into the swing of it...and I guess all the reading/etc I did on blood will help when we get to blood lol.

(Online Classes)

I've got a midterm already tomorrow. (We have two of them.) We've had 4 chapter quizzes and this will cover all 4...blood, heart, circulation and lymphatic. So far the quizzes have been a breeze. I hope the midterm follows suit since they are each worth 20% of my grade.

We're going to have to do a case study. I'm a little anxious about that simply because I don't know what to expect. Anyone have experience with one of those?

Lab - Like the lecture class, we've had 4 chapter quizzes and the practical exam today covering them all. I'm happy with myself.

I'm starting the respiratory system now.

I just finished 2 semesters of A&P using the Tortora book (is it the red one, Principles of A&P?) I recommend using the Wiley website (if your book came with a cd) and take the web quizzes and exams for practice. If I can help you guys in any way, please let me know! :p

Cool!! I also took A & P II at Valencia CC in the Fall of 2004 with Prof. Frierson. She was great!!! My intentions were to apply for the Nursing Program at Valencia at the time, but after learning that the waiting list was a whole year, I transfered to Florida Hospital College and fortunately got accepted into their program starting this Fall. I will be taking Eng II and Sociology at Valencia starting June 22nd for the 5 week minimester. Valencia is a really good school, to bad the program is so full. Good luck with A&P!! At the end of the semester the Prof. gave us a whole fetal pig to disect and identify certain organs and parts. It was worth 20 extra credits!!

I live in Saint Louis and did not realized they had an online Nursing Program, I attend Saint Louis Community College. I will have to check it out.

Ugh. I just had my 1rst day of online class and 1rst on-campus lecture.

My lab professor is TERRIBLE. UGH! He was talking about parts of the GI tract that are not in our books at ALL and he went so fast we all just sat there like " huh?". No powerpoints, no structure, nothing. Horrible. I had a really bad feeling about this considering he only gives 2 lab practicals.
